3 comments about The Collector's Encyclopedia of Gaudy Dutch and Welsh.

  1. Received book promptly and in excellent condition. Needed book for research on family heirlooms.

  2. Not only is this book very reasonably priced, it offers a wealth of clear color photos to aid you in identifying your Gaudy Welsh and Gaudy Dutch dinnerware. If you collect or deal in Gaudy Dutch or Gaudy Welsh this book is a must have for your collection.

  3. An invaluable aid to understanding two very different types of china manufactured in England. Wonderful historical information, colored examples and close-ups make for accurate identification. Prices are volunteered for varying shapes, patterns, and sizes. A significant contribution in this field and a must-have book for any collector!

  1. I have owened Franciscan dinnerware for about 30 years, but am just now discovering the world of collecting it. The books by James Elliot-Bishop are invaluable resources for collectors who want to understand the intricate history of this lengthy line of earthenware

  2. This is THE most extensive book on G/Mcb I have ever read !!
It has good, interesting and informative text and the pictures are fantastic. I found myself going through it twice!! Once for the terrific photos and the second time for the wealth of information. BRAVO!

3 comments about Ceramic Arts Studio: Identification and Price Guide (A Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. I have no idea how one person can shove all of this vast knowledge into one brain, but Mike Schneider does it...and does it repeatedly. He masterfully depicts the Ceramic Arts pieces with stunningly clear and crisp photographs (taken by the author). The dialogue in the book goes beyond normal collectible books and surpasses some of the novels I've read recently. Bottom line--this book is an asset to any collector, as are Schneider's other books (9 in all--on 9 differing subjects...WOW! )

  2. Excellent photos; was disappointed that it did not include values for additional pieces in sets he discussed. For example, I have 3 of 4 ballerinas he discussed but he did not give a price for one I have that he didn't. I am looking forward to his next edition.

  3. I had no idea of the variety or quality of figurines that Ceramic Arts Studio Pottery made. This book is packed with lots of color photos and useful information! This is a must have book for dealers and collectors of people and animal figurines made in the USA!

3 comments about Collectors Guide to Made in Japan Ceramics: Identification & Values Book III (Collector's Guide to Made in Japan Ceramics).

  1. I collect older (collectible) MADE IN JAPAN items and therefore I have quite a few books on the subject. This book is not complete but quite helpful. Photos are nice.

Many different volumes have been written on this subject. Infact, I own 3 other books on this subject.

When "Made in Japan" collectibles were issued there were sooooo many different items sold, that it would be impossible to include all of them in just one book. The author tried and did a good job though.

  2. This was an awesome product for me to have because I have alot of ceramics that have the made in japan labels on them. It is really fun to look them up to see if what you have is worth anything.

  3. Made in Japan Ceramics Book 3 continues to give the readers what they want: INFORMATION ! Biscuit Barrels, Figurines, Condiment Sets , Wall Pockets, etc.,etc., with top notch color photos. Carole Bess White has chosen to share her vast knowledge and love of these charming pieces. Thanks Carole. When shall we expect volume #4 ?

4 comments about Official Price Guide to Pottery and Porcelain: 8th Edition (Official Price Guide to Pottery and Porcelain).

  1. If you are a collector of Arts and Crafts Art pottery this book is not for you. Of the many collectible potteries for this movement (i.e. Rookwood, Grueby, Weller, Hull, Tiffany, Pewabic, Teco, Newcomb, Ohr, Chelsea, Fulper, Roseville and Van Briggle) only two (Roseville and Van Briggle) are included in this book.

  2. My copy is dogg-earred, stained and marked-up. I've identified alot pieces of pottery with this trusty book I've always felt confident in it's information and price list. Please Mr. Duke another one.

  3. The priceing seems to be below other publications. His listings are incomplete, not all items shown. The drawings are rough and are hard to make out.

  4. I have used this guide for nearly a year and find the content very useful in my business. The histories of the various pottery firms are fascinating and help make sense to a very crowded collectable field. It's time for the price information to be updated and the book should be split into two volumes for easier handling and reading. The main dissapointment (and why the book lost two stars in my rating) is the lack of color photographs. Mr. Duke (and his publisher) would have a home run if they would include extensive color photographs of each line of each manufacturer to aid in identification. Yes, it would cost more, but the market would support it. Take a look at Huxford's Fiestaware guide as a good example.

2 comments about Designed & Signed: '50S & '60s Glass, Ceramics & Enamel Wares by Georges Briard, Sascha Brasto (Schiffer Book for Collectors With Value Guide.).

  1. I am quite surprised to see that there are not more reviews on this fabulous book. Not only is it beautiful and chock full of fabulous photos and estimated values, but it seems to be the only solid reference for Georges Briard and his equally talented peers. Expect to find nearly every pattern that Georges Briard ever designed and also some wonderful photos and information on: Higgins, Sasha Brastoff, Marc Bellaire, and even a few photos towards the back for Couroc, Fred Press (one of my faves), Ned Harris, Gabor, Gay Fad, etc...I probably refer to this book every other day! A must have for the mid century collector and especially for the fan of Briard and his designs. Thank you, Leslie Pina, for putting this book together!

  2. This is the only book I have been able to find on George Briard glassware. Chapter 1, over 50% of the book is devoted to George Briard collectibles. Chapter 2, about 20%, is about Sascha Brastroff. Chapter 3, about 10%, is about Marc Bellaire. Chapter 4, about 15%, is about Higgins. Chapter 5, about 5%, contains more designers and a section showing all of the artists signatures. Each chapter includes the history of each designer. The pictures are absolutely fantastic and include a price range for each item. I have been able to identify and purchase many of the items included in this book. Obviously, this is one of my FAVORITE books. I highly recommend it to any one collecting 50s & 60s glass.
