1 comments about American Pottery & Porcelain (Antique Hunter's Guides).
- Fold your standard sheet of paper in half and that's about the size of this book. -So, when I first saw it I thought I'd be disappointed... BUT I was pleasantly surprised! -It starts off with a brief intro to the different types of pottery (redware, stoneware, yellowware, ironstone,) and porcelain and a history of how they were/are made. It goes on to a visual key which has silhouette figures of items and is helpful to identify what item it is that you have. ...was that a coffeepot or a teapot? :o) After you've id'd your object, you can find the section in the book that corresponds and there you will find a color photo of one example and all sorts of helpful info. on your item. -A short description of what the typical physical size and shape would be, areas where the items were made, comments on typical uses, and hints on what you should avoid/look for. The price guide in the back gives you a ballpark figure of value.
this book does not focus on any specific brands, rather highlights some of the big name makers and brands that you may want to watch for. For being a general guide, I think this is as good as it gets. I found it superior to any of the Millers, Kovels series. -It actually teaches you what to look for, as opposed to other books which just inform you of what you already have. It is a great reference for collectors and resellers. Small enough to take with you to every auction and yard sale!

5 comments about Majolica.
- This book is filled with lovely pictures of Majolica. Unfortunately it is not filled with the kind of information that I was looking for as a collector. I would have liked to see pictures of the marks he describes. Also, I am very disappointed he did not discuss how to recognize new Majolica-like pieces and/or fakes.
- The 4th edition of MAJOLICA comes with a revised price guide and the same attention to color photos and detail as the originals - and it's a pocket-sized tote to boot, making it a perfect item of choice for any who journey in search of the glassware. The clear pictures make identification a snap, while the latest values lend to quick collection assessment.

- Clear, concise, lots of nice photos. Not incredibly detailed, but it isn't designed to be.
- If you're an advanced collector of Majolica this isn't the book for you. But, if you're intriqued by the flashy colors and what to know more about this wonderful pottery then this book is right up your alley!! It's small, it's easily carried, the price is right and the pictures a great! I highly recommend it for beginners!
- Well that wasn't much help! I just read the whole book in about twenty minutes, and that was taking my time! To be fair, I did learn quite a bit about majolica, but that's only because I knew nothing to begin with. This is a very simple book. It includes a few short "chapters" that give only a few paragraphs each on general concepts--marks, condition, paiting, care, etc. It's biggest selling point is that it includes more than one hundred pages with one or two good quality photos on each. The biggest problem with the book besides its brevity is the fact that it does not contain the price guide it advertises. The author gives the price for each piece pictured, and that's it. What's worse, as far as I can tell or figure out, the prices don't follow the criteria the author outlines for value. He'll list one piece for $100 and then another for $250 that (by his standards) is less valuable. Very frustrating.

1 comments about Goldscheider.
- A well presented and logically thought out book with, Schiffer-please note, an index (and it works). I am a UK auctioneer and only purchased the book a month ago and have used it to good effect four times already. Ok, I specialise in Decorative Arts of the Twentieth century, but to any collector of Arts Nouveau or Deco (let alone Goldscheider) I would say this book is a must. The progression through time and themes, clearly expressing the changes of fortune of the factories and the marks used denotes an author well versed in the subject and not one, as sadly is often the case, merely cashing in on the vogue for a given subject. I congratulate both Ora Pinhas and Richard Dennis on an exellent, well illustrated and readable work

1 comments about Collector's Guide to Homer Laughlin's Virginia Rose: Identification & Values (Collector's Guide to).
- This is the most useful guide to collectable china that I have found. It is not only an exhaustive reference guide to Homer Laughlin's "Virginia Rose", but provides much information about other types of china as well. This book provides details and information that you can't find elsewhere.

1 comments about The Carlton Ware Collectors Handbook.
- This book is a must if you are into collecting or selling Carltonware. There are lots of coloured photographs showing most of the patterns . The book has been a great help in identifying patterns so that I can descibe them accurately when selling on ebay. I recommend this book to anyone interested in Carltonware.
