1 comments about Encyclopedia of Blue Ridge Dinnerware.

  1. I have several books on Blue Ridge Dinnerware and this is the best. A great book to have to identify that unknown pattern, almost every pattern I search for is in there. Great color & page design. Highly recommend for purchase.

1 comments about The Collector's Encyclopedia of Majolica.

  1. I am new to the wonderful world of Majolica. I was looking for some reference books to help me purchase quality pieces of Majolica on ebay without paying more than I should. I found The Collector's Encyclopedia of Majolica a good reference because of the approx. 180 pages of colorful pictures illustrating the various types of Majolica pottery available. This book includes a value guide for the pieces pictured in it with a few pages of general information. I gave it 3 stars because it is helpful in pricing certain items but does not give you alot of details about the history of the many companies that produced Majolica.

3 comments about Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks.

  1. If you deal in or collect antique English pottery and/or porcelain this is the only book on marks you will ever need. It is worth the money. It is known in the trade as the 'Bible on English marks' and its authority is never questioned. The maker and historical notes included with every identification, give you direction if more research is desired.

  2. This book is a must reference for all pottery collectors. It has all the marks and makers in an easy to find format. Trilogy Antiques

  3. Geoffrey Godden's concise and comprehensive volume is universally recognized as the cornerstone of the serious student's refernece library. Identifying and dating decorative and utilitarian wares fashioned through the prior 300 years by the English is a fulfilling occupation. A grasp of the history and of the people of England brings with it a reverence for the spirit of the times captured and made tangible by these links to their makers. Godden's work is the "bookmark" directory to those links.

4 comments about Belleek: The Complete Collector's Guide and Illustrated Reference.

  1. This book is the standard for Belleek. It is crammed full of fabulous photographs of this lovely parian china. It contains an extensive history of the pottery and those who developed this unique ware. It provides a thorough explanation of the process of manufacturing. It shows us the various marks, or backstamps and discusses their meanings. My only quibble with the book is the price guide, which is somewhat incomplete and which does not reflect the effect that online auctions have had on collecting. All in all, a wonderful book for the Belleek collector.

  2. A must acquisition for collectors of this lovely Irish parian china. Covers history of the pottery, process of crafting and the names, marks and ware. Over 2,000 items pictured. A value guide of more than a 1,000 pieces, from various crafting periods, included as a bonus.

  3. There are beautiful pictures of Belleek in this book, but to use it as a price guide is very difficult. For a piece, he only has one price for one mark, no other prices for other marks. For being an authority on Belleek, he could have made the price guide much easier to read.

  4. Probably the best guide to Belleek China currently available. Marion Langham's later book provides more illustrations but it is Degenhardt who has filled in much of the detail and provided a systematic approach to numbering and identifying Belleek. A must for any collector of this exquisite and increasingly difficult to find china.

1 comments about 19th Century Lustreware.

  1. To those interested in British earthenwares but not necessarily lustreware, this work could change things. Thoughtfully structured by manufacturing region, Gibson's book shares all the positives of ACC publications and its one negative: lacklustre (sorry) design. The color is abundant, photographs good, the text readable. When compared with the comparatively poorly-produced Shiffer editions, ACC books present high value.

3 comments about New Handbook of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks.

  1. This is the essential book if you collect English pottery. I have found it useful as both a collector and dealer. In fact, my old hardbound copy is falling to pieces from use. I am so glad to have this paperback edition for day to day reference. Dr. Godden has tapped sources for mark information that no one else has used. Everyone copies from him.

  2. I have several books on pottery. This is the worst. I almost never find the marks I need to find, while the other reference books I have DO have them. I do not recommend this book!

  3. Geoffrey A. Godden did it again! A book highly recommended for collectors of pottery. Very informative & from a legend of marks. Plus its in a handy paperback form. If you collect, own your own shop, or write collector's books this is a must have for you! Thank you for writing this wonderful book!
