4 comments about Occupied Japan Collectibles: Identification & Value Guide.

  1. I collect older (collectible) MADE IN JAPAN and OCCUPIED JAPAN items and therefore I have quite a few books on the subject(s). This book is not complete but quite helpful. Photos are nice.

Many different volumes have been written on this subject. Infact, I own many other books on this same subject.

When "Occupied Japan" collectibles were issued there were sooooo many different items sold, that it would be impossible to include all of them in just one book. The author tried and did a good job though.

  2. while the author gives many photographs, she lacks identifying marks for the items and in my opinion, is not correct on her values. however, she explains her process in the beginning.

  3. Great value. Book was new and cheaper than market prices. The shipping was fast. I rate this transaction AAA+++

  4. This identification guide to occupied Japan collectibles covers everything from dishware, teapots and salt shakers to toys and figurines, providing an excellent mix of small color photos for identification and accompanying values and history. Occupied Japan Collectibles is an essential acquisition for any interested in collecting items from occupied Japan.

2 comments about Noritake Dinnerware: Identification Made Easy (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. Finally, a book on Noritake collecting that does not sound like it was written by a snobby, snooty museum curator! Most Noritake collectors are lovely people who enjoy the "thrill of the hunt" and delight over every lemon plate and berry bowl they are able to obtain no matter how common and inexpensive the pieces may be. Who needs a book with pictures and prices of Noritake pieces they will never see except in private collections? Robin Brewer writes in a "down to earth style" and communicates her love for porcelain beautifully. Her photographs are excellent and her prose is charming. Some of the names she assigns the backstamps are homey and silly but descriptive. (Alot better that decimals) A wonderful book for the experienced Noritake enthusiast but especially appropriate and helpful for the beginner.

  2. A wonderful guide to Noritake. History, basic patterns, unusual pieces and much more. Any collector or dealer in Noritake should have a copy of this book.

5 comments about Modern Fiesta: 1986-Present.

  1. I was expecting a lot more info on the products and did not expect as much personal information on the author.

  2. I find Schiffer collector books in general to be amateurish and of poor quality and this one is no exception. Many of the photos suffer from unprofessional lighting, rendering the supposed colors unrecognizable. There are also numerous typos, and the writing style is more of a personal narrative than a factual account. Some people might find this chatty style appealing but I find it distracting. I also don't think we need so much coverage of the "artistry of John Parry," especially of his jewelry. I'm sure he was a very nice man, but I think this info would have been better put at the end of the book as an appendix rather than in the front. Most people buy collector books in order to readily identify and price their items--the biographical information, and the stuff about "morgue" items is interesting, but shouldn't take up so much space. I recommend the next edition go more in-depth on the officially licensed go-along items, as these are more likely to be encountered by the average collector than some of the more obscure decaled lines that have pages written about them.

  3. I found the book to be insightful and full of a plethora of information that experienced and new collectors could use. It is a worth while edition to any fiesta library. I also was thrilled to see the paintings of artist Philip Carroll in the book and on the back cover of paintings using fiesta. What a wonderful concept!

  4. I was very pleased w- this book! I have been a Fiesta collector for several years & found this book not only extremely informative, but a very useful tool too. The writing is superb! This book carries current values for lilac, sapphire, & other HTF pieces. Because post 86 Fiesta is currently in production & "readily available", I understand that it is impossible to put values on anything else. I was especially fascinated & intrigued with the many great pictures, espeically of the rare & morgue pieces. Overall, this book is the best post 86 book on the market; it is definitely a must have for any collector!!!

2 comments about The Complete Collection of Antiquities from the Cabinet of Sir William Hamilton.

  1. An excellent table book, with lots of drawings an pictures thats inspires you to create.
    A pleasure for the eyes.

  2. This is one of those spectacular books that makes you appreciate what a real book is! The books of Hamilton's collection of Greek vases - which convinced Wincklemann of the superiority of Greek art, inspired Wedgwood and were a linchpin of the Greek Revival - have been begging for a reprint, and this is a beautiful copy. Its HUGE, so it's going to need a table rather than a shelf - particularly if you pair it with Napoleon's 'Description of Egypt'!
One concern though is that the inspection copy I've seen is actually coming apart at the seams - possibly a comment on the number of people who've leapt on it rather than the binding quality...?

5 comments about No. 1 Price Guide to M.I. Hummel Figurines, Plates, More... (M.I. Hummel Figurines, Plates, Miniatures & More...Price Guide, 8th ed).

  1. I have one and will give you information on the Hummel Silk Carpet.(The Book lacks this information)
On the back is a tag stitched to it saying:

    M.J. Hummel
    ORIGINAL HUMMEL SILK CARPET
    HANDKNOTTED IN BEIJING, CHINA.

    ARS AG, ZUG, SWITZERLAND

    LIMITED EDITION :10 /50

Also there is a tag attached to the SILK CARPET written in both Chinese and English
    ZHE JIANG SILK RUG

I am giving this information because the book does not have a picture of this HUMMEL SILK CARPET and not sure about the information I just posted.
VALUE UNKNOWN but it is Very Beautiful

  2. I have all, since the first publication, of Robert Miller's Price Guide to MI Hummel Figurines, Plates, Miniatures and More.
Mr. Miller has all the knowledge one would expect & want to find in his books after much research and many trips to Germany to gain this knowledge. This is THE HUMMEL BIBLE! I highly recommend this book to all Hummel collectors or to anyone interested in the collecting of fine arts. Very well written with explicit details about Sister MI Hummel's life in Massing, Germany & her schooling. Each known Hummel is pictured & tells of the Master Artist who molded each three dimentional figurine from the drawings by Sister beginning in the 1930's to the present TMK markings. A great investment for Insurance purposes when appraising your figurines by The Hummelking!

  3. This book is very well illustrated, well layed-out, easy to use, and the pictures are very beautiful. It's full of information, explains more than I expected, and it is a MUST for Hummel collectors.

  4. not only is this a complete guide -- but it is so easy to use -- anyone owning or buying Hummel's should have this -- I only wish I could find Guides like this for my other collectables --

  5. Even though it's proclaimed by expert collectors as the absolute source of information about Hummel figurines, Robert Miller's reference work is easy for amateurs as well. He provides insightful guidance in determining value and quality as well as interesting tidbits about production and variations in the figurines. His work is referenced by many sellers in internet auctions, but is also helpful in figuring out just what you already have. As a rank beginner, I had no problem in following his material and ascertaining the value of an inherited collection. It was also useful in helping me determine additions that I wanted to make to the collection.
