4 comments about Antique Santa Claus Collectibles.
- David Longest's handbook Antique Santa Claus Collectibles arrived too late for Christmas mention but is a year-round reference for any avid collector of Christmas ornaments, figurines, and decorations. The focus is on Santa Claus alone, narrowing the choices and allowing for plenty of color photos paired with the latest identification guides. Any collection offering narrowed specialty focus - particularly holiday references - will find this a key title.
- This book is great. The background text is very informative, yet keeps Santa fun. The book contains a wide variety of items covering many years. I found both the pictures and prices helpful. I'm always very happy with Mr. Longest's books.
- As the author of this book, I wanted to explain to readers its purpose.
This book is filled with photographs from many personal collections around the Midwest and also includes background information as to the history of Santa Claus and Santa Collecting. This is my NINTH published price guide for Collector Books, and I have been an author with the same publisher for 25 years. I have never written a response for any of my other books on AMAZON but have been a loyal customer since its inception. Since the very FIRST review was from a purchaser who gave this product a very low rating but did compliment the pictures...I wanted to respond. This book is a general overview to Santa collecting and was intended to be a reference for new collectors, general antique dealers, and people just interested in Santa antique collecting. It is not the ULTIMATE guide to Santa antiques...I am not sure any guide could ever be that. Just know that I spent many months on this project and gave it my best, including personally doing all the photography. Readers who know my work also know that I don't produce "one star" efforts. Thank you for reading this review!
- Photo's in book are very good, however the description of the individual Santa's are poor and the values presented are very inflated. Would not recommend the book.

3 comments about Covered Animal Dishes.
- I was disappointed that the binding of my copy of this fell apart the first time I used the book- about half of the pages fell out!
The photos are nice, but they aren't consistently identified (readers want to know if glass is new or old, so manufacturers matter even to the most casual collector).
Finally, if you buy this book for the great photos, be sure to visit the website of the National Milk Glass Collectors society-- they have a handy downloadable list of corrections for this book. There are a lot of factual errors in this book which you will want to be aware of.
- This books loses stars for two reason. The first reason being the book has too many non-animal covered dishes. A book titled ANIMAL COVERED DISHES should be just that! The second reason is the lack of in-depth information regarding the makers of the various dishes displayed. Many times the examples given are not always helpful considering the wide range of reproduction on the market. One never gets the feeling Grist writes about these dishes out of interest rather than the monetary value they possess. Kudos are given for the large pictures, clearly photographed and nicely captioned. Perhaps more of the space could have been used for information? More of a coffee table book than a collector's guide.
- Everett Grist's Covered Animal Dishes provides an excellent visual display with the nearly full-page color photos in front and the values listed in back. This makes for easy identification of styles and makers.

2 comments about Marks on German, Bohemian, And Austrian Porcelain: 1710 to the Present.
- Great book for German/Austrian marks. I make a living selling European porcelain and glass and have found it immensely helpful in identifying marks. Once I got used to the layout it was easy to find the mark I am looking for. There is only one mark I have been unable to find out of about 10...pretty good considering. I highly recommend it if you are needing to add to your library for identification. This book may be more advanced than some may like...it is also in German and English.
- PERHAPS IF THERE WERE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE THE BOOK IT WOULD BE HELPFUL, HOWEVER I CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING I'M LOOKING FOR.

1 comments about The Royal Winton Collector's Handbook: From 1925 Cottage Ware, Art Deco, Lustre Ware, Pastels, Etc.
- Miller is well known in collector's circles for the Miller Guides. This small book is an excellent start for new Winton collectors, and a good resource for seasoned collectors.
While this book does quite a good job of listing a number of the sytles and patterns to be found within the Royal Winton range, its use as a price guide is VERY limited due to the fact that it is not a comprehensive guide. All in all, I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in collecting Winton.

1 comments about Hungarian Ceramics from the Zsolnay Manufactory, 1853-2001.
- Having just enjoyed my first visit to Hungary, I became aware for the first time of this wonderful pottery. I first saw it at the flea market near the airport; then bought some at an antique shop near the Budapest Opera House. What I was told about the work of this factory fascinated me so I am glad to now have this beautiful reference book.

1 comments about Porcelain in Russia: 18th-19th Centuries, The Gardner Factory.
- This is a superbly illustrated book. The text is absolutely minimum. The illustrations of incredible porcelains take up the entire page. A true joy for lovers of porcelain and the decorative of arts of the 18th century.

4 comments about The Limoges Porcelain Box : From Snuff to Sentiments.
- I found the book to be quite interesting, not to mention beautifully photographed. While I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that the book tends to be a bit jaded (since the author IS the President of a major Limoges distributor), it is still packed with history and facts. However, I would have preferred that it also mention current values of some of the many styles of Limoges boxes. 'Looks great sitting on the coffee table!!
- If you've been looking for a collector's book on Limoges porcelain boxes for many years like I have then you'll be overjoyed to know that someone has finally done an incredible job.
The "Limoges Porcelain Box: From Snuff To Sentiments" by Richard Sonking has everything true collectors could possibly want. This is one coffee-table book that will not gather dust. The photographs are beautiful. It will provide wonderful reading, with a wealth of information and history in addition to how the boxes are designed from start to finish. Tre's Magnifique!!!!! Louis Mauriello, World Press Review magazine
- The author of the book is the President of Rochard, a major producer of Limoges Boxes. If you want to learn about the history of the porcelein and painting techniques - read on. However, I wanted to learn more about the different artists and manufacturers. Mr. Sonking features only his "Rochard" boxes. Too slanted for my taste.
- This beautiful book, a labor of love by the man behind Rochard Limoges, is a must have for any devoted collector of porcelain boxes. The photographs are gorgeously laid out to tell the history and show the manufacture of these exquisite collectible art objects.

3 comments about Popular Royal Bayreuth for Collectors.
- We have had several items of Royal Bayreuth in the family for many decades and did not know anything about them. It was refreshing and interesting to see the items we have in the book but also the vast array of items this manufacturer has produced over the years. Also the prices suggested for sale, so to speak, was astonishing. Would recommend the book to anyone interested in the items for collection.
- I recently attended an auction where they were selling one woman's 35 year collection of Royal Bayreuth.
I bought a few pieces and was pleased to find them in the book.
The book features beautiful photographs of many different types of Royal Bayreuth. This is a wonderful addition for someone who is a collector or someone who just loves beautiful photographs of porcelain.
- A very helpful book With great pictures and good price quotes from a highly regarded auction house that seems to have a couple of important Royal Bayreuth auctions every year.
