3 comments about Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain: 1710 To the Present.
- I bought this after buying several neat pieces of porcelain on Ebay and becoming curious about the history of the maker's marks on them. I was surprised that the book is in two languages, English and German (each page has both English and German text). It took me a little fumbling to get onto the organization, but once I did, it was wonderful in identifying everything I looked up. There are no pictures, just accurate line drawings of the maker's marks. Each is clearly identified by manufacturer and date. It allows you to look up marks by type, for instance "crown" or "anchor" or "anchor with words". One part of the book further gives a very brief summary of the type of wares each company produced (organized by country). It has more marks than any other reference book I have ever looked at, it is probably the only one you need for European porcelain. It also lists present day marks from currently producing companies.
- Finally a book that goes further then showing some pictures...there ain't ! So all the place left is pure 100% usefull and revealing information. Not only useful for antique but also for younger, almost actual, porcelain. Indispensible for identification of the manufacturer and the age of a piece of German, Bohemian or Austrian porcelain. The information is seperately ordered by marks, by manufacturers or by names ! I don't know how I should go on without it...

5 comments about Mustache Cups: Timeless Victorian Treasures.
- If you collect mustache cups--you need this valuable collector's guide. Written in an enjoyable format, the book gives hundreds of colorful pictures of mustache cups and saucers from around the world. There are pages of valuable potters marks to check your own with. There is even a section on quadruple plate mustache cups and marks. The history of the cups is great. And, best of all, there is a price/value guide for each cup. Now I know what my collection is worth! I'm so glad that this book has finally been written. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
- A great place for both new and old collectors a like to find information! The detailed photo's are as much of a pleasure to look at as the text is to read. I only wish the Young family would send their collection on tour!
- Not since Dorothy Hammond's 1972 book on Mustache Cups has anyone written on this subject. Pauline and Glenn are to be congratulated for producing this fine publication which, in my opinion, is long overdue.
The book is split into chapters dealing with the different types of cups and saucers and it is well illustrated with detailed photographs. No matter how many pictures the book has, though, there never seems to be enough of them and they leave you wanting more. One chapter that I particularly found useful deals with manufacturer's marks. This is an excellent reference section that should help date most marked pieces in any collection. The authors have included valuations on most pieces which they explained should act as only a guide to real market prices. The problem with listing valuations, which Dorothy Hammond also acknowledged, is that prices may soon become out of date or not be truly reflective of the actual market prices when one considers the multitude of styles, types and condition of pieces that exist. I know that the authors are considering a second edition: I hope they succeed.
- AS A COLLECTOR AND SON OF A COLLECTOR I CAN SAY WITHOUT THIS BOOK YOU WILL BE LOST. THE SECTION ON THE MARKS COULD STAND ALONE. FOR US COLLECTORS THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN SEEING WHAT ITEM COME "OUT OF THE CLOSET" AND INTO THE MARKET!COMPLAINT, THE SECTION ON SILVER CUPS IS TO SMALL.
- This is the most comprehensive book ever written about mustache cups, their history, age, and value. The photography is excellent. Not since 1972, when Dorothy Hammond published her book, has a book shown the pictures, dates, descriptions, condition, the backstamp and the value. Their book includes wonderful sets and groupings; silver cups/saucers and their marks; reproductions and fakes; and a wonderful chapter on available accessories.
Paula & Glenn should win an award for this one!

1 comments about Qing Porcelain.
- This is a must in the collectors reference book library. It is well written, beutiful pictures and a beutiful lay out. As a beginner in collecting porcelin, after three years in Vietnam and two in China I was happy to find a copy for the low prize of 252 HK$ (32 US$). I think the book is worth 250-300 US$.

1 comments about Fayf: Collecting Furniture.
- Millers is a clear, concise book and very well organized. My experience in the past with antique books is that there are very few photos of the items they are describing. This format is great if you already know the basics about antiques but it makes in almost impossible for a beginner to identify and price items just from a description. Millers provides tons of colour photos, with brief descriptions of what items were used for, what makes them valuable, what things devalue them and an estimate value. This format makes for quick and easy identification of hundreds of pieces. This is the perfect beginner/intermediate antique resource guide.
