- If all of us would believe as the author has stated, "that we all have a garden inside of us", the world would be in a better place. As you read on and observe the drawings, you can actually feel her love. Not only for her husband which is evident, but also for her work. I have visited her charming shop, seen the magnificent tea sets, and was surprisingly stunned by her delicate art which adorned the walls of this enchanting little treasure of a shop. Ms kaplan not only writes with a soul of passion, she backs it all up with beautiful tea sets, then gives you dessert by offering a glimpse of her talent as an incredable artist with her heavenly water colors. - It's obvious that the publisher put a lot of money into the production of this well-made book on a subject of interest to historians of the China trade and collectors of Chinese export porcelain. It's a shame they didn't use some of it to hire a better translator and proofreader. The book, which originally appeared in French, suffers from an uneven translation and the maps are still in that language. Several Amazon Marketplace sellers offer new copies for less than $40 and it's a valuable addition to your library at that price. But I would not recommend buying this book at its full retail of $220.

- This exhibition catalogue is an adequate - but not encyclopedic -- introduction to the monochromatic porcelain collections of the National Palace Museum. The Museum has very limited English-language publications related to their collections, making this publication's excellent translations especially valuable. Each piece exhibited is described succinctly. The photographs are of high quality. A useful reference as well as introduction to monochromatic porecelains of the collection.
