2 comments about Royal Doulton: A Legacy of Excellence 1871-1945 (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- A very interesting book. Has plenty of pictures on rare items, I felt it needed more data on production runs and information on sizes and designs of different era's. I found a 22 inch vase i own in the book in a black and white picture, but no data on that vase in the book. Buy it used and save the money, your vase may not be in this book.
- The Legacy of Excellence is a wonderful photographic history of the finest in Doulton Wares. The photography was splendind and the book was wonderfully laid out. I would highly recommend for anyone who collects Royal Doulton. Nothing else like it in my library!

4 comments about Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks.
- Book sent out damaged but the seller was good to work with and refunded for merchandise and shipping.
- If you deal in or collect antique English pottery and/or porcelain this is the only book on marks you will ever need. It is worth the money. It is known in the trade as the 'Bible on English marks' and its authority is never questioned. The maker and historical notes included with every identification, give you direction if more research is desired.
- This book is a must reference for all pottery collectors. It has all the marks and makers in an easy to find format. Trilogy Antiques
- Geoffrey Godden's concise and comprehensive volume is universally recognized as the cornerstone of the serious
student's refernece library. Identifying and dating decorative and utilitarian wares fashioned through the
prior 300 years by the English is a fulfilling occupation.
A grasp of the history and of the people of England brings
with it a reverence for the spirit of the times captured and
made tangible by these links to their makers. Godden's work
is the "bookmark" directory to those links.

2 comments about Vincennes and Sevres Porcelain: Catalogue of the Collections. The J. Paul Getty Museum.
- This is a nice book but color has gotten cheaper since 1992. The best source is French Porcelain: In the Collection of Her Majesty The Queen - 3 volumes (Three Volume Set), 1312 pages, $726-1000. Or pay about $25 for a fabulous sampling in French Porcelain for English Palaces. Lots (almost every page) of full page color photos with additional closeups. The variety of colors and styles (vases, plates, pot-pourri, cup and saucers, serving items, and a few plaques and figurines) will wow you. I have looked at some of the dedicated Sevres books which have more items, but they do not show the details like this book. I enjoy getting close up to items displayed in museums to appreciate the talent of the artists. This book is one of the few that does that for me. I usually prefer to buy once a book has begun to drop in price, but I do not think this will be the case because of the publisher (Royal Collection Publications) and because it is the poor man's edition of the expensive set. George IV preferred bright colors with a lot of gilding and painted scenes. He wanted the best that Sevres could produce and he succeeded in acquiring it between 1783-1830. I can't imagine a porcelain lover being disappointed in this book.
- This catalogue, first published in 1991, documents the collection of Vincennes and Sevres porcelain in the Getty Museum. There are 40 entries describing items such as bowls, vases, wine coolers, plaques as well as a number of cups and saucers. These items were initially collected by J.P. Getty and later by Gillian Watson. A number of pieces have impressive provenances such as the Rothschild family, the Marquise de Pompadour and Louis XVI.
While the collection (at time of publication) was limited in number, the quality of the pieces appear exceptional. The pleasure of examining this book is greatly enhanced by the superb clarity and accuracy of the color reproductions and printing quality in general. Each item of porcelain is thoroughly described by Adrian Sassoon. This luxurious product is strongly recommended for porcelain enthusiasts.

2 comments about The Ewers-Tyne Collection of Worcester Porcelain at Cheekwood.
- I compared this book with The Art of Worcester Porcelain, 1715-1788: Masterpieces from the British Museum Collection. Both books are about the same size. The British Museum Collection is not as diversified nor as beautiful as the Ewers-Tyne Collection. The John Sandon book is a little cheaper and certainly more colorful. Both books have a lot of photos and a lot of text. I purchased the John Sandon book. I have other books by him and they all seem to have more photos and style variety than his competitors.
