1 comments about Sotheby's Concise Encyclopedia of Porcelain.
- This is a narrative history of porcelain, lavishly illustrated. It covers only porcelain, not other forms of ceramics. It focuses on wares that I would consider exclusively museum quality. The illustrations are gorgeous. The text is gracefully written and thoroughly informative. Although it is not arranged topically as a real encyclopedia would be, it does have a marvelous glossary at the end that is an education in itself. With the caveat that this is a narrative not a topical reference, I highly recommend this book.

1 comments about Meissen's Blue And White Porcelain: Dining in Royal Splendor.
- Nicholas Zumbulyadis's MEISSEN'S BLUE NAD WHITE PORCELAIN packs well over 300 color photos of dining services, vases and more created by the Meissen porcelain manufactory, displaying pieces from rare, early 19th century museum pieces to 19th century easily-found plates. A history of porcelain painting accompanies the values and survey of pieces available.

2 comments about Miller's 20th Century Ceramics.
-
The review below appreciated the concise information on makers, but not the SUPERB quality of the photos! I bought this book because I couldn't put it down -- and I'm not a collector. What a way to develop an appreciation of the variety of truly beautiful wares available! Every collector or general aesthete needs this title for the well-chosen and beautifully photographed examples. A sleeper price-wise, and not to be outdated in terms of breadth, now that the 20th century is over...
- I first looked at this book at the library, then decided it was informative enough to purchase for my own china collector's library. It doesn't have prices which many do...but it has wonderful descriptions of the manufacturers and good color photographs. Used in conjunction with a Warman's book, you will be able to identify most major china manufacturers. I reccommend this highly.

2 comments about Miller's: Collecting Blue & White Pottery.
- This is a great book for beginning collector of Blue and White Pottery. It gives a great English view of Engish blue and white, and pictures are wonderful. Very rare pieces, how to collect, all three of her books are well worth the price for collectors in the U.S.
- I love this book, I continually refer to it. For someone just starting out collecting Blue & White Transferware, this is the perfect place to start your education. Lots of clear pictures, conscise narrative and useful price guides.

5 comments about Collectible Cups & Saucers (Collectible Cups and Saucers).
- The layoutis fantastic. A person is able to find and see the information they are looking for. Being in color is an absolute necessity. I have read thru the book several times. It is a valuable tool in collection. Thank you very much. Kay Brashers.
- Too bad someone didn't bother to edit this book - especially as it is a SECOND EDITION! It not only is missing 20 pgs (in the early 100s from what I recall - I sent book back and hope for a refund), it also had 20 duplicate pages! I can't believe NO ONE here who raved about this book noticed this! It's one thing to buy it and get pleaure looking at pictures of someone's pretty cups, but quite another when you are doing research and spending money on books! Checking for brands in the index and not finding a page listed is how I found this gross error! A lot of cups would have been covered on those 20 missing pages. The seller I purchased book from said "it was publishing error and not picked up on reprint" and had the nerve to ask ME to "let him know if I find one that was corrected" as he said all books are like this. Unless the seller is misrepresenting...I say "BOO" to the editors/publishers - no excuse on 2nd edition!)
- This book is fantastic, beautiful pictures. A pleasure to just look through. Very happy with this purchase!!
- This book is great for finding different cup and saucer types.
I would like to have had more information on pottery markings included in the book. Wish the authors had a web-site for questions.
- The first book I've purchased on tea cup collecting. The gorgeous photos alone taught me a great deal about the art and fun of collecting tea cups. I've enjoyed every page. When the world is so frustrating during the day I can't quite concentrate on reading weightier matters, I pick up this book and lose myself in the gracious and lovely world of tea cup collecting. A big thanks to the authors!

4 comments about Kovels' Depression Glass & Dinnerware Price List, 7th Edition (Kovel's Depression Glass and Dinnerware Price List).
- No collector's or dealer's library is complete without this book by the Kovel's.
- This book was well worth buying! Had the patterns I was interested, plus more, I've even started new collections from patterns I saw in this book. Great pictures, too. The Kovels did it again!
- This was the first reference book I purchased when I began collecting depression glass. Although there are color photos, few patterns are represented. The patterns of manufacturers are line listed at the end of the depression glass section but quite a few of the patterns are not represented in the detail (the most important) section of the book. Representation of the patterns detailed are in a very poor quality black and white, making it difficult to match a piece of glassware with the pattern. Although Kovel seems to be a well respected authority in a number of collectible arenas, I saw no sign of expertise in this book. I would not recommend this book to anyone especially beginners.
- Super pictures to help identify types of glass, with good history of each. Exciting to see the actual worth of items. Perfect size book (not bulky) to take with you when exploring the antique stores. I highly recommend this book.
