  1. I was more than pleased with the short time it took to recieve my book. The condition was excelent.
    Thank you.

  2. This book is the definitive work on Metlox Pottery. It's a "must have" for the collector and enjoyable reading for the person wishing to learn more about California pottery. Full of hundreds of pictures and values, this book is an invaluable guide and resource.

  3. I purchased this book to clear up my conception of some of the Metlox patterns but it opened my eyes to some very collectible pieces that I had been over looking. Nice pictures with several styles in each catagory that eliminates the guess work. As a beginner collector of Metlox I am truly please with this book.

2 comments about Sevres Then and Now.

  1. This volume is a very beautiful introduction to Sevres and the history of this fabled manufacturer. However, it is just that: sn introduction. I would have welcomed a more vigorous pursuit of some of the fabulous creations still in existence--in private and public hands--as well as more illustrations of same. The photographs are lovely but not exceptional. Overall, good to acquaint those new to Sevres.

  2. This book provides an excellent background and overview of the long history of Sevres
procelain production. For me, the best aspect of this book is the beautiful
new photography (including technical information)for each of the objects
    contained in Hillwood's current exhibition.

1 comments about Royal Doulton Series Ware Vol. V: New Discoveries.

  1. Here is another excellent offering from Royal Doulton authority Louise Irvine. It is well-organised, easy to follow and beautifully illustrated.

Readers should be aware, however, that this is a companion volume, an addendum to Ms Irvine's previous four-volume series on Royal Doulton Series Ware. It documents items discovered by Ms Irvine and her readers after the publication of the other books and refers the reader back to the appropriate volume and page number in which the series was originally described. Therefore, in order to get the most satisfaction out of this book, one must already own or have access to the previous four volumes.

Finally, this book was published in 1998, so there may well have been more interesting--and as yet undocumented--discoveries since.

5 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain w/ Price Guide : Updated, Series 1 (of 5 Series Set).

  1. This book is well documented, thorough and the pictures are excellent. In addition, this book discusses the Nippon history, provides an excellent chapter on marks and backstamps with a short commentary on the different mark colors and their meanings.

I particularly liked the glossary, and cross-referenced price guide index which is placed in the back of the book yet neatly references to pages and plate #'s. Because of the extensive patterns in the Nippon history, every pattern is not in the book but I was able to identify particular shapes of pieces which I could check against marks/backstamps and the price guide to get a reasonable value range.

Any collector or dealer will suit their library well by having this book for education and reference to Nippon.

  2. Joan Van Patten's Nippon Porcelain focuses on Japanese porcelain, from painted vases and stamps to plates and smoking pieces. Gorgeous color photos abound.

  3. As part of the 5 series volume, this series contains some updates. From my previous reviews of the collection series, I've mentioned that if you are beginner, a keen buyer/seller, or an experienced collector/trader of Nippon items, then you need to have this book, along with the other series. Like the previous series, this book contains information on Nippon porcelains. It provides actual photos, and price ranges for each items featured. Nippon porcelains have their disctinctive mark, based on the year and place they were manufactured, so this book gives you what to look and watch out for, in order to identify the authencity of the item.

  4. Like the series 2 book, this is part of the 5 series volume. If you are beginner, a keen buyer/seller, or an experienced collector/trader of Nippon items, then you ought to get this book, along with the other series. The book contains a lot of information on Nippon porcelain collections. It provides nice photos, and price ranges on each items featured. It also gives you the marks to look and watch out for, in order to identify the authencity of the item.

1 comments about Lefton China: Old and New.

  1. I'm an amatuer collector of animal figurines and planters. just getting started and with the aid of this book I am able to identify my purchases. It helps me tremendously in satisfying my curiosity about each piece. This is the second book I own by the same author, and I plan on getting the others. Of course, there are way too many items out there to all be decribed in just a few books.

5 comments about Haviland China: The Age of Elegance (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. While the written information contained within is remarkable in its' breadth and detail, and the publication certainly has a good "hand" on the current market, the publication fails sadly in its' photographic quality.

Certain patterns colours are corrupted in the printing process. A notable example of this is on page 181, Figure 390 "Dinner Plate Chambord Pattern". This plate in fact has a soft green tinge to the entire plate and the edge is a teal / blue. It is not a red pinkish colour, which is how it is represented.

This is a significant misrepresentation of the appearance of the article and there are a series of errors in the publication of a similar calibre, and it reflects badly on what is fundamentally a good publication.

  2. Nora Travis is one of the leading experts on Haviland. I love the quality of her books, and have found the photographs professional, and the content informative and interesting. While researching my book: LIVING WITH LIMOGES by Debby DuBay, I again sought out Nora Travis' work for information on Haviland Limoges. She is an expert in the field of Haviland and I recommend this book to all who need information on the subject or for those who enjoy beautiful coffee table books.

  3. I don't consider myself a collector of Haviland; I bought this book to get a toehold in this world while searching for replacements for my mother's turn-of-the-century pattern.

This book is organized in such a way that someone new to this area can understand the basics types of pieces, identify the various markings and get some idea of reasonable values. Did I mention that it also looks good on the coffee table?

  4. Nora Travis' book includes photographs of the usual and unusual pieces of Haviland porcelain which makes it a well rounded book for the amateur and serious collectors. It contains many beautiful "art" pieces, and the values are right on target. A lot of work went into this book, and it shows. The photos are really great as well. We, Keith and Thomas Waterbrook-Clyde, are the authors of a book on Limoges porcelain, The Decorative Art of Limoges Porcelain and Boxes.

  5. Haviland China, one of the most collected Limoges producing companies, comes to life in this very informative book. Not only does Ms. Travis includes a Haviland family tree in this book, but also a history of this wonderful family legacy.

Beautiful color photographs enable us to enjoy some of the very rare pieces produced beginning in 1895. The price guide for these pieces are right on the money, and the signature guide makes piece identification easy!

As a serious Haviland collector, I never go to an antique store or show without it!

3 comments about Dresden Porcelain Studios: Identification & Value Guide.

  1. Dresden Porcelain made in the late 19th and early 20th century are mostly hand-decorated, and the book presents information by maker or studio, which is easy to follow. With makers marks, basic information and hundreds of photographs, the publication is a true resource for the beginning or advanced collector. I've collected Dresden for years, and refer to this book often!
I appreciate the Harran's as porcelain dealers and collectors, who, like me, have published on our favorite antiques and collectibles!
My book is also available right here on AMAZON!
Pictorial Guide to Silvered Mercury Glass: Identification & Values

  2. This book is just right for the beginner. It gives a bit of history,a price range on some pieces and some lovely pictures but not many identifying marks. It looks lovely on your table, but if your looking for identifying marks, and dating your dresden this is just the tip of the iceberg.

  3. You can reach to know the value and identification of the arts.
