1 comments about The Collector's Encyclopedia of R.S. Prussia (Collector's Encyclopedia of R. S. Prussia).
- in this gaston's second series, [book copyright 1986] the preface, [as always is the case with her], adds greatly to the entire information this book offers. following is 1. new and revised historical information, [6 pages] > 2. mold identification chart [2 pages] > 3. sugested chronology [revised] of r.s. and e.s. schlegelmilch marks [1 page] > 4. marks reprinted from 1st edition [7 pages, full color, plus one page fake and misleading marks] > 7. 647 full colored photos, many showing multipul items. index for 'named molds' and 'decoration themes', and a price guide is the last 5 pages, there is much additional information not included in her first book, and the items here are not repeats. this is a valueable addition for a good library on r.s.prussia

5 comments about Franciscan: An American Dinnerware Tradition.
- My Father was the last Dinnerware Plant Manager for Franciscan China while it was still made in California. This book included alot of Franciscan China that is usually left out. I recommeded this book to my Father, who bought it and loved it too.
- Excellent material, but I wish the colors were more vivid and true to the real colors of the pottery. I recommend the book because it has a wealth of information for anyone who enjoys learning about all the patterns and their history. It would be a wonderful addition to the library of a collector or anyone interested in California pottery.
- Great resource. If you're a collector, BUY THIS BOOK. The pricing guide is an amazing reference for rare and uncommon pieces.
- The book is well written and I've learned quite a bit. However, I don't like that there isn't a photo of every piece (like the child's plate) or how to tell the difference between a casserole and a covered vegetable. I also didn't like that the price guide doesn't break down the year the item was made, just prices of American made, and made in England. Is one made in 1941 worth more than one in 1980??? The book and the guide doesn't say. I also felt as though it was CLEARLY written from a SALES perspective, complete with a photo of The Replacements headquarters on the back cover!
- This is probably the best book on Franciscan dinnerware around. It gives a lot of information on the company, it's history etc. I would have liked to see more information and photos on the handpainted items, namely the Apple and Desert Rose varieties. There are only a few pages devoted exclusively to them. There is a price guide included that covers most of the items, although it doesn't show photos of each piece. I think it's a pretty good book though and I'm glad I bought it.

5 comments about Limoges Boxes: A Complete Guide.
- I purchased this book after I went to a lecture in Dallas, TX by the expert and author of Living With Limoges, Antique Limoges at Home and Collecting Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain, Boxes to Vases, Debby DuBay. I love any book that has photographs of Debby's collection of fantastic Limoges. Highly recommend.
- This book was a work of passion and love for the author who collaborated with many experts using excellent references. This book provides information on antique Limoges boxes versus the W-Clyde books that include brand new boxes. If you are interested in antique boxes recommend Debby DuBay's third book: Collecting Hand Painted Limoges Porcelain: Boxes to Vases
- If you want info on antique Limoges boxes-highly recommend this book. I love the fact the author colaborated with several antique shops where I have purchased several antique Limoges boxes. Highly recommend Limoges Antiques Shop in Andover, MA for wonderful antique boxes!
- This book on Limoges boxes is great specifically if you are interested in ANITQUE LIMOGES boxes!! Great reference book - I have found several dealers of antique Limoges boxes! (I recommend Limoges Antiques Shop, MA) Great collaborative effort with other dealers and authors; rare in the publishing world - but helpful to collectors! This author lead me to DuBay's LIVING WITH LIMOGES. Faye is gracious lady, great author, the perfect mentor, and a wonderful speaker!
- Ms Strumpf is a wonderful, enthusiastic author who has shared her knowledge of Limoges boxes -- along with her resources!! This is the only book that has helped me find antique shops that actually sell antique Limoges boxes! Through her book I have been able to acquire several antique boxes for my personal collection. (In addition, she has mentored several authors to include Debby DuBay, author of Living With Limoges.) I applaud Ms Strumph for being one of the only authors who has collaborated with other authors on the subject of Limoges and for providing good information to lovers of ANTIQUE Limoges boxes.

5 comments about Restaurant China : Identification & Value Guide for Restaurant, Airline, Ship & Railroad Dinnerware (Volume 1).
- First I need to preface that this book was purchased solely for the information on the Railroad China. As my title says, this book is good for the pictures of the Railroad China, but I take issue with the prices displayed....[Either she got really gyped/cheated or she had lots of money to burn and "price was no object". Neither my spouse not myself would spend the kind of money price-wise that was quoted in this book. Prices were over three times what we would pay in certain cases. Going back to the pictures, *color* pictures - very nice. Whether the pictures are color correct, I can't necesarily say, which brings us to the next point. They are pictures of patterns that I hadn't seen previously in either the two better known railroad china books.
In the books favor, there is section about "how" the china was made, that included decorated/decaled and the like. That section appeared to be quite good reading. Lastly, if you want to know about the Restaurant, Airline and Ship aspects of the book - I can't tell you. I hate to say it, but the book, now purchased will probably be kept for the photos.
- I was very disappointed in this book. The colors in the photographs are beautiful. But as a reference for china patterns, it is seriously lacking. Except for a select few companies, the author seems to offer only one example rather than a more complete listing of the different china patterns used by each company over the years. There are some very nice photographs of railroad dining cars, steamship dining rooms, and airline meals being served, but again as a reference, the pictures do not show the china in these photos very clearly at all. In addition, the listings and descriptions of company logos as well as time-frames for china patterns are sometimes inaccurate and other times incomplete. As always, price guides become outdated quickly and would have been better in a separate addendum instead of being placed with text and captions throughout the book. I feel the book was too generalized. As a new collector I wanted help in identifying the different china patterns used by these transportation companies, when each pattern was used, and who manufactured them. All this book provided were scattered bits and pieces of that information. I do not intend to buy Volume II.
- I was referred to this book for price and identification and was sadly disappointed to get the book and look up the china I had to find that it had some of the pieces and history but by NO MEANS is a complete guide. The China Company I had was in there but it didn't have the history from the year the company started but it did have the identification stamps from the year the company started go figure. The price guide consisted of showing a few pictures of china this particular company producted and gave a few prices. I couldn't believe it. The only reason I kept this book is because I was so busy I didn't get to return it before the 30 day return was over. Oh well I'll know better next time.
- Barbara Conroy shares her extensive personal experience as a collector in this invaluable reference work. The photography is exceptional, with hundreds of examples of dinnerware pictured in each of the four main categories, along with copies of period advertisements and brochures. Each section also includes a painstakingly assembled collection of hundreds of logos to assist the collector in identifying the company the dinnerware was produced for. A must-have reference book for the serious restaurant, airline, ship and railroad china collector! Pair this book up with Volume 2 of the series and you can push all your other books to the back of the shelf, you won't need them anymore.
- Barbara Conroy's new volume on restaurant china is a welcome addition to the growing body of literature regarding this largely American genre of utilitarian ceramic art.
Restaurant china represents an age of americana where restuarants cared enough to invest capital in individualized ceramic pieces that would advertise and represent their establishments. It is a practice that is being undertaken with less and less frequency in our time. Many manufacturers are no longer in business. It is accordingly a genre of increasing interest to collectors. Conroy's book chronicles this fine craft form well. It offers a fairly exhaustive listing of topmarks and backstamps of interest to collectors. Substantial full-color illustrations are both informative and entertaining. Historical information as well as primer material about production processes are welcome inclusions. The book's title is a bit midsleading, however. It is really a volume focusing primarily on airline, ship, and railroad china... with some coverage of military, western, government, oriental, sports-related, casino, department store and corporate pieces. Logo china manufactured for restaurants and diners receives is afforded little coverage. And non-logo pieces in stock patterns receive virtually no mention at all; the topic is beyond the scope of the book (though Conroy plans, I believe, additional volumes which may address these areas in further detail.) Future volumes may benfit from incuding information on how to read backstamps to determine date of manufacture, information on stock patterns, and changes in ceramic form and decorative practices from the 1950's and 60's to the present day. No one volume, however, can be expected to exhaustively cover all facets of this increasingly valued utilitarian art form. On the whole, Conroy's volume enriches the literature currently available to growing number of restaurant china fans and collectors in our culture.

- This beautiful book inspired me to gather and organize decades of greeting cards at various locations in my
house, perhaps for a collectible scrapbooking project or for art ideas.
- This is the most complete book on Valentines Day I have seen. Filled with interesting facts, over 200 (not 20) vintage Valentines, the history of Valentines Day, fun crafts for kids, recipes andmore. A must have book. AAAA+++++++
- Greetings With Love: The Book Of Valentines will hold year-round attraction for any interested in greeting card art, collectability, or history. The focus here is on antique valentines, with chapters surveying the earliest valentine in history to modern times.
