5 comments about Tomart's Disneyana: Guide To Pin Trading.
- This book has alot of pins but the organization makes it hard to find a specific pin. It would be better if it had an index by character.
- For the people who complained about the lack of index... how could anyone possibly index that many pins. The index would be as long as the book is. The table of contents is perfectly adequate for narrowing down the page. After that the hunt for the pin is half the fun.
- Dinsey pin collecters and traders will enjoy seeing all the pictures in this book. It is the best source for info on the pins but being the only source, they don't have to be that good to be successful.
Criticisms include the fact that they don't list ALL the pins- you have to buy more stuff to get info on the overseas them park pins, Disney store pins, online pins, and others. Finding a pin can be very difficult also as their index is unclear on many items. You have to know where the pin was released to find it in the book and many of us won't guess right on that question. Some of us would like the pictures in the book to be a little bit bigger, too. A final criticism is the price of the book for the numbers of pages- it's expensive.
For someone who collects, the book is indispensable but it is a very imperfect work.
- The book was nice, and I enjoyed the estimated values of the pins, but to be quite honest - the index was absolutely horrible. It is near impossible to find pins wihtout searching through several pages. It would have been great if they had the pins listed by number instead of whatever system they have came up with. Hopefully they improve on this in the next edition.
- Although it can be difficult to find the items you are looking for it is fun to just look through. A serious collector would probably take this book more as a guide.

2 comments about Royal Ruby (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- I just started collecting Royal Ruby glass, and this book has been a tremendous help to me. The pictures are wonderful, as well as the descriptions and information about various pieces. The occasional comparisons of similar pieces were very helpful to me in finding exactly what I was looking for. I am very glad that I bought this book, and I recommend it highly.
- Finally, a glass book where you don't have to guess what the picture is!!!! Each illustration has a caption, telling what the item is, along with the vital statistics. No more flipping from page to page to find out what it is, or worse yet, a picture full of glass and no list or caption. The illustrations are incredible. Not only has the author researched his subject thoroughly, the photography will dazzle you. Thank you Philip Hopper for one of the best depression glass books I've seen yet!!!! I sincerely hope you will write more of these high quality glassware books!!

4 comments about Zippo Companion.
- This book is excellent for the true collector who has been at it for a while. It list some old more wanted pieces along with some more recent pieces. I would not reccomend for a new Zippo collector though.
- Not much of a book....
Odd size format, difficult to place on book-shelves.
Other than that the photos are sweet.
- Excellent book about the legendary zippo lighter great illustrations everthing you want to know about the history of zippo a must for every zippo collectors library
- Still a classic after all these years, the Zippo folks keep to the basic rule, don't mess with rightness and success will follow. Endearing classics like the rural mailbox, Duracell batteries or a Stanley knife are simple solutions that stay with us decade after decade. The Zippo company did branch out in Sixties with a new line in table lighters, it was not a success.
This is a typical company history book (produced with their blessing) so don't expected any deep insight. The authors zip through the decades with anecdotes and factoids mixed in with plenty of photos, illustrations, period ads and dozens of pictures of lighters. The design of the book is the main reason I bought it. Strangely, for a conveniently small product, many of the lighters shown are either larger or smaller than the real thing, I would have thought it sensible to keep them all life size.
The company recognises that collectors buy more than thirty percent of sales and they capitalize on this by bringing out annual collections plus specials for any event that seems appropriate. A useful eight pages near the back of the book covers dating your Zippo, with photos of the bottom of the lighter which has a simple coding system.
If you are a collector of this world famous lighter this nice looking little book would be worth buying though I can't see the reason for the hefty price.

2 comments about Warman's Disney Collectibles Field Guide: Values And Identification (Warmans Disney Collectibles Field Guide).
- The first thing to know about the various Warman's Field Guides is that by design they are not meant to be all encompassing. If you're looking to a comprehensive guide to every Disney collectible then you will have to look elsewhere (if there is such a beast). The Warman's Field Guides are designed to be pocket-sized guides, easily able to take-along on those trips to flea markets, antique shows, or garage sales. They are meant to give an example of various types of Disney collectibles, more for the casual or new collector, than one who's a veteran. Thus you won't find every item in the book but you'll probably find pretty close approximations, enough to at least make an educated guess about an item's value. It's either that or haul around a Webster's Dictionary-sized guide.
The book is alphabetized by character name/film beginning with the "Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad", and then goes on from there. There are marvelous treasures in the book that will make Disney collectors salivate and it's complemented by fantastic, full-color photography, highlighting one item per page for the most part.
Among the treasures are a complete Alice in Wonderland lobby card set of 8 valued at $1400, a Davy Crockett one-sheet movie poster from 1955 for $650, A 1950's Donald Duck tin lithograph bank from Marx toys for $265, a 1930's Clarabelle drinking glass for $40, a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs bisque figure set for $215, and a Mickey Mouse pocket watch from the 1930's, valued at $465.
There are a myriad of toys, figurines, books, posters, and lobby cards to be found within the pages of the guide. If I have one minor complaint it would be that there are too many examples shown in the book of the Mickey Mouse Magazine, Dell Four Color Comics and Walt Disney Comics and Stories. There's probably a hundred pages, one-fifth of the book dedicated to these items which to me is a bit too much since there are already many excellent comic book price guides (Krause themselves puts out many great comic price guides) on the market which do a better job on these types of items. I would have rather seen much more coverage of non-comic book items.
All in all though, the book definitely does what it intended to do.

- Was not overly impressed with the coverage of collectibles in this guide. Can't be too specific except to say I perused the book when I received it a month ago and have not even opened it a 2nd time. Pretty much a wasted purchase. Sorry to be so critical.

2 comments about Warman's Kiss Collectibles Field Guide: Values And Identification (Warman's Field Guides).
- I have read and enjoyed Tom Shannon's first KISS price guide since it was released in 2000 & have found it to be a VERY informative and helpful resource for pricing my collection. The prices are quite accurate and it is very thorough, covering nearly every item in the vast KISS memorabilia empire. It is a very well done book and the printing is top notch. I have been very eagerly awaiting Shannon's new book since I heard he would be starting another about two or three years ago. I purchased his new book "Warman's KISS Collectibles Field Guide" and in my opinion, it leaves much to be desired. Although this is of the highest quality printing, its thick & small 4 1/2" by 5 1/2" size makes it difficult to go navigate easily. Also the amount of info on the pages is very limited due to its small size. The tons of quality color photos he includes with his books are a big plus. It does feature the prices on the listed page rather than having to flip to the back of the book, which was the case with the 2000 book which is a bonus. Many of the old items that were in the first book are in this book. I was expecting much more of the newer items to be included in the book. Much to my disappointment, where some items may have been left out of a category in the 2000 edition, many complete categories are left out completely in the 2005 edition. This is a far better printed book than Ingo Floren's (released last year), although not as complete. If you want a GREAT price guide pick up Tom Shannon's first book. This one may fill in some gaps for newer items, but it is not a complete listing by any means. It does have an interview with Bill Aucoin that is very interesting. This would make a good traveling companion (hence the name Field Guide?) due to its small size.
- This is an excellent book. Tons of terrific color photos along with a cool interview with former Manager Bill Aucoin makes this product a winner!

3 comments about Coca Cola Commemorative Bottles: Identification & Value Guide (Coca-Cola Commemorative Bottles).
- Has a limited number of bottles - there is not as many commemorative bottles as I was expecting. I could not use it for my collection.
- Quality paperback book helps you identify and value over 800 bottles which are beautifully pictured in full life-like color. Covers 8 oz and 10 oz bottles. A brief description of the bottle accompanies each entry. Well indexed for easy locating. A useful reference book.
- This book is great to have if you are a collector of Coca-Cola bottles.Being able to see what the bottles look like is nice.

5 comments about American Tobacco Cards: A Price Guide and Checklist.
- It was not what we were looking for. We wanted sports cards and this was mainly girly cards. We put it in the trash.
- This comprehensive and superbly organized work is richly supplemented with numerous color and B/W photographs. A brief and informative history about various tobacco products/inserts and manufactures is provided. The book is organized principally into two units: N-series for 19th century cards (N1-N694) and T-series for 20th century cards (T1-T177). Each entry includes a brief description of the set and card appearance (front and back). The overwhelming majority of entries include an actual size photograph of a representative card (front and back) and a list of all cards in the set. Comments pertaining to card variations and prices are useful. The edge of each page is labeled with the set number to aid with rapid location of descriptions and card images. The work is peppered throughout with short vignettes and essays (published previously in various trade journals) by Dr. Terry Mitchell about specific sets or card themes. Although this is a soft cover book, the pages are printed on high grade gloss stock paper that tolerates repeated handling. Suprisingly, the book is neither overwhelming or boorish in its presentation. The brief descriptions and inclusion of images for virtually every set are effective strategies and make the book exceptionally user-friendly. No other work to date has done such a masterful job at capturing the variety of subjects, visual appeal, and historical allure of tobacco cards. This book is a must-have item for novice collectors and enthusiasts.
- A beautifully executed publication, however as a collector of Victorian Trade Cards, I was greatly dissapointed NOT to find ANY of the cards in my collection listed. I would have expected at least ONE to have been referred to, but the items in the book are mostly geared to the collector of tobacco insert cards. If this is your thing, this is your book. Forget it if you are more geared to Tradecard collecting
- The book is great historical lesson. Reading about the history of the Tobacco cards has been very informative. The writers have dedicated many hours to thorough research of this topic.
- Colorful and interesting pictures provide an easy to use reference guide. The text is clear and concise with indepth information on value and various other aspects of collecting. I would highly recommend this book for serious collectors, antique dealers and those interested this aspect of American history.
