3 comments about Forever Lounge: A Laid-Back Guide to Languid Sounds.

  1. I was thrilled when I first came across this book, someone finally did a price guide for the kind of LP's I was collecting. Unfortunately the book didn't turn out to be all I was hoping for when I bought it. It is useful as a discography for the artists listed and seems very complete in that respect but I wish it contained more and better examples of classic LP cover art and more biographical information on the artists. I suppose this may be asking too much from a price guide type book. But even as a price guide this book seems a bit off. Although there are exceptions, almost all of the records are listed as being worth $3-5 or $7-10. Now as a collector I think it would be great if record dealers would adopt this as their official pricing guideline, but if you are buying these type albums anywhere besides your local thrift shops you are probably forced to pay more than that for these records, sometimes a LOT more ( at least that has been my experience). In fairness, I guess it wasn't too long ago that you could pick most of these records up for under a buck almost anywhere, but original LP's of lounge and space age bachelor pad music seem to be going for premium dollars these days and a recent price guide should more accurately reflect that. BOTTOM LINE on this book...Should you buy a copy if you are into this type of music? Yes! by all means. While this book does miss the mark a bit (in my opinion) there is precious little information published about this type of music and this book is one of very few available on the subject. While I was initially somewhat dissappointed when I first read the book I have gone back to it on numerous occasions to look something up and I am glad to have it on my shelf. The discography type information alone is worth the price of the book and there is a bunch of other pertinent information included which is also useful (websites, etc.).Most of the book is taken up by the price listings but I did enjoy reading the text that is there and found it informative as well. Now if I could just convince my local record dealers to sell me those Esquivel and Three Suns albums at this book's prices.

  2. This volume is cleverly as composed as the best of lounge entertainment

  3. Anticipating a great catalogue and price guide for lounge music, I was somewhat disappointed in this publication. Too much page space is given to the discography and price listing and too little to a beautiful presentation of the covers which are so essential to this style of music. All the good stuff(photos and text) inhabits verticle strips on the edge of the pages. The covers are poorly printed with a dull look. The pricing seems pedestrian and not detailed enough. Too bad because the list of artists is large and largely accurate. Sort of a 70% effort.

5 comments about The Illustrated Collector's Guide to Led Zeppelin (Volume II).

  1. This is a book devoted entirely to the collecting of Led Zeppelin non-commercially available recordings (Yes, the infamous bootleg of lore!) and that's pretty much it. Well researched, but listing only CD bootlegs and no vinyl recordings, this is a book for the hardcore Zeppelin collector only. My copy featured a CD that had a interesting interview with the group's guitarist, Jimmy Page, I'd never heard and my being a hardcore collector and fan I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

  2. Having collected Godwin's books since 1984 I can say that this one was as good as any other. Some reviewers have noticed it doesn't have everything in it. That's because it is VOLUME 2! The rest of the stuff out there was in VOLUME 1. Also this book was published in 1998 and obviously doesn't include the hundreds of new titles that have come out since then. Godwin has never reviewed the performances since his first book. He has always said that his opinion on the band was irrelevent. I would much rather have an objective opinion about the recordings than Rey's tantrums about whether Jimmy was good or not. It is also the only book with pictures of all of those bootlegs. When Godwin's first book came out it helped me avoid buying crap boots. It has been doing that ever since.

  3. I cannot recommend this book. I'm an avid collector of Zep shows, and was amazed at the falsehoods printed in this book. This is also not a complete guide. I found myself looking in this book for several widely available boots that are either not listed, or lists tracks or other info incorrectly. If you're interested in reading more about Zep in concert and live tapes, get Luis Rey's Led Zeppelin Live.

  4. Mr Godwin takes his book one step further, and enhances it with the medium of CDROM. Its so much fun exploring this CD, because you never seem to get to the end! There is always something new to look at! If you are a collector of Led Zep live CDs, then this book is also very indespensable in terms of guiding you on what is what. This CDROM can keep you from wasting your money on something that you don't want. Plus, Mr Godwin includes LP records in this version, which wasn't in the previous printed version. Recommended! A++++

  5. This book is the bible of live Led Zep CDs. Using this book, you will save many dollars and hours when you collect and buy Led Zep recordings. If it saves you from buying ONE bad CD, then this book has paid for itself! Buy it!

2 comments about Pez Collectibles: Up-To-Date Prices (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. This book was very helpful to me. Easy to use and lots of pictures to help you out.

  2. This book is a must for Pez collectors! I have a huge collection myself, and I still found some that I don't have. It even helped me find the value of my collections, and now I know how much I should be paying when I go searching for Pez. It also includes informative facts and history on these crazy little dispensers.

2 comments about Zippo Advertising Lighters: Cars & Trucks (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. Advertising and Automobiles-A perfect advertising media for The Zippo! This fantastic book celebrates an era when people were not ashamed if their cars were gas guzzlers or if they (gasp!) smoked. All the greats-Ford-Hudson-Cadillac are here in brushed chrome splendor. Of interest is the tremendous coverage of the
    Tucker.
What a wonderful reflection of how things used to be.
Thank you ,Philip Taggart for a wonderful reference piece.

  2. It's a large coffee table type with colorful dust jacket which is duplicated on the cover. Not too much reading, but just enough to give you all the information you would need or want about Zippo lighters for both cars and trucks. (Mostly cars) Lots of detail, up close pictures of lighters and drawings from their design to colorful finished product. If you're into cars or Zippo lighters and want a book you will find hard to put down once you start looking and reading, this book is for you. I have never seen anything like it, and believe it will have wide appeal. If you see it, you'll want it! It's 190 pages and not a dull one in it.

5 comments about More Pez for Collectors (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. Once again Mr. Geary has out done himself. Just when you thought nothing else could be said about PEZ, Geary comes along with a book that is sure to be a hit with the true collectors. 10 STARS if It was possible.

  2. This book is the ultimate guide to pez collecting. Very informative and helpful for anyone collecting dispensers. If you don't like this book you probably can't read anyway. Must Have.

  3. Don't waste money on this book. It doesn't even deserve one star

  4. You you want pictures and prices. This is your first book to buy. The book shows variations of diffferent Pez. The only problem the prices are old. The sale of Pez is exploding and the prices are going up and up, but this book will get you started.

  5. This book includes mainly pictures and has more information regarding promotional materials, packaging, and accessories (t-shirts, etc.) than actual dispensers. Some information is slightly misleading but Pez afficianados will have little trouble enjoying what Geary has to offer here. Recommended only if you also have the first book Geary wrote ("Pez Collectables")
