1 comments about His Master's Voice Portable Gramophones.
- Dave Cooper has produced a valuable reference work about the portable spring-motored HMV gramophone (phonograph), and a quite beautiful one at that. This is not a subject that has been treated before with such lustrous detail. The story begins in the mid-1920s and finishes as late as 1960 or so (perhaps later if one considers models manufactured in India). All of the models have been illustrated or photographed with their respective color and other model variations (my favorite is the De Luxe Model 101 with crocodile leatherette exterior). Very useful information is detailed for each model, such as mechanical or stylistic variations through the production histories, which make it easy to date your own machine (my red 102 is from about 1950, it turns out). And some very unusual machines are illustrated as well, made for Asian markets or special orders.
The only flaw I can find is the included CD, somewhat of a gimmick, but one which had potential, including British and American pop music from the 20s-30s. The transfers, unfortunately, are not good, a combination of being over-filtered and having unfortunate distortion (perhaps worn records were being overcompensated-for?). Anyway, buy it for the book. And you can't beat Amazon's price.

3 comments about Indian Clubs.
- Alice Hoffman has uncovered a forgotten piece of American history and inspired me to begin collecting Indian clubs. Hoffman has written an informative book complete with stunning photographs and personal reflections.
Indian clubs now prized for their sculptural, artistic merits were once a must for every man, women, and child who hoped to obtain physical and spiritual well-being in the late 19th, early 20th century. It's amazing to learn that Indian clubs were once thought to be an exercise that would stand the test of time. Hoffman has shown they have, not as muscle builders but as a collectible. If you're interested in learning something new and not afraid of becoming an Indian club collecting addict as I have since reading this book, I suggest you order Indian Clubs today.
- Excellent resource for serious collectors and the curious. Photographs are inspirational. Can't wait to start my own collection. Historical information very comprehensive. Good read as well as informative.
- A wonderful read...informative.Photographs are ready for framing. Definitely will inspire you to begin to collect Indian clubs. As stated by Gerard Wertkin, Director, Museum of American Folk Art, "(Alice Hoffman) has recovered an all but forgotten subchapter in the history of American sport and, at the same time, helped us appreciate another aspect of American artistic creativity. Hats off to her!" I agree with Mr. Wertkin and the following reviews: Antiques & Auction News, "A colorful exercise in collecting,"..."documents the "life" of this colorful and practical form of exercise...a charming addition to any antiques library." Antique & Collectibles News Service, "Inside Antiques, Good Reading,"..."we love (this) book...a folk art gem." Antiques Review, "The Bookshelf,"..."Superb color photographs...Fascinating archival material." Denver Post, "What's Up,"..."If you're searching for the most unusual art book of the year don't overlook Indian Clubs." Maine Antiques Digest, "Books, Calendars, CD-ROMS,"..."a case for Indian clubs as folk art." The Star Ledger, NJ, "A new life for Indian clubs,"..."new coffee table book...If TV infomercials had been around in their heyday, chances are the physical fitness mavens of the day would have been pitching Indian clubs in the same way abs machines and treadmills are endlessly hawked now."

2 comments about The Collector's Guide To Cine Cameras.
- I grew up in the 50's / 60's, had my first Film Camera as a 15year old boy and many more thereafter. The book brings back lots of memories. Some of the beautiful pictures almost put "butterflys" in my eyes...It is written VERY WELL with useful details and interesting stories about the history of Movie Cameras. Like any book, there are some slight discrepancies here and there, but in general it is VERY diligently written and technically interesting and CORRECT.
I love it, it's well worth the price and I recommend it to anyone that was involved in the early (double) 8mm amateur and/or even 16mm pro area..!

Black and white photographs throughout depict an amazing variety of cine cameras throughout history. The Collector's Guide To Cine Cameras is a very highly recommended, indispensable guide and reference for anyone with an interest in acquiring or identifying a cine camera.

4 comments about Goldmine Price Guide to Rock `N' Roll Memorabilia (Goldmine's Price Guide to Rock N Roll Memorabilia).
- This Book was an excelent recourse to me. An autograph and cd collector myself... this was very helpful. Its full of crazy memoribila with the prices you can buy and sell them at. I took a look through my own memoribila.. and even made some money from the knowlege of this book. Its ver interesting and even funny! GREAT BOOK!!!
- This book is a waste of paper. The only worthwhile information is copied from other books, in diluted form! Most of the entries are so general to be of no value. Spend your money elsewhere, and save a tree.
- I found this book to be an excellent resource guide. It has invaluable information regarding all aspects of collectibles. I particularly enjoyed the authors humorous insight into various bands! BRAVO!
- If you don't collect records and CDs then this book is perfect for you. Thousands of values for hard to find programs, autographs, record awards and rare collectibles. Profiles of thousands of bands! A great resource!

5 comments about Collecting Simpsons! An Unofficial Guide to Merchandise from The Simpsons.
- oh my god, this is litteraly the best book i have ever read. this william guy knows his stuff. i heard is son is one of the top basketball players in the country.
- ...the first thing I see is that the front cover picture is all blurry. Plus the photos inside are all black and white. "worst book ever" as the comic book guy would say.
- Lots of effort, research and love for the hobby has made this book as excellent as it is. It's obvious that this piece is written by a true fan, which makes it all the more interesting. The book takes an exhausting look at the variety of Simpsons merchandise, with hundreds of photos and pricing information. I've never considered myself a collector, but browsing through the pages of this book made me want more items I can ever afford to buy. That's why having this guide is a nice substitute for having the real things.
- Instead of History 101 this is SIMPSONS COLLECTING 101. It is a very well written, and highly entertaining book, for anyone who knows THE SIMPSONS are not related to OJ! It's not your basic "collecting book" but much more. Just an all around great book that makes me want to shout WOO HOO!
- I've been collecting Simpsons memorabilia for several years and have been following the Collecting Simpsons website since just after its inception. I can unequivocally say that Bill LaRue's book is AWESOME! Whether you are a beginner to the hobby or a veteran looking for some new collecting inspiration, this book covers Simpsons collectibles like no other written material available. The book is fun and easy to read, well organized and practically updated for free through the website. It's a must have for any Simpsons fan.

3 comments about Rock-N-Roll Treasures: Identification & Value Guide.
- Joe Hilton and Greg Moore's Rock N Roll Treasures provides a selection of rock memorabilia from posters and autographed photos to guitars, games, magazines and more. An excellent music reference for collectors.
- For anyone interested in the history of Rock 'n Roll --- and all its various manifestations --- this is truly a fun book to have. Page after page of full-color images, from all eras or rock's history, depicting the gamut of memorabilia that was produced to promote everyone from the Beatles to the Banana Splits! What is most remarkable about this book, and what makes it indispensable, are the many photos which document items that have never been pictured in any other memorabilia guide. Paging through this book is a mind-boggling, dizzying 'adventure.' I love it. YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!
- A real beauty of a book to whet the appetite of any rock and roll enthusiast. Great nostalgia piece. Features over 1,300 full color large, sharp photos of every type of rock and roll collectible. Provides info on valuing the items, grading them, buying them, selling them and protecting them. Topics range from the Beatles and Elvis to the Bee Gees and New Kids on the Block. Estimated values are provided. A MUST for everyone interested in this topic. Well worth the price.

2 comments about The Beatles: A Reference & Value Guide.
- This book is full of items the collector needs to know about. How many times have people (I know I have) passed up on great items to collect, simply because they were not sure that an item even existed, as a "real deal" collectible? This book has been well researched by the author and provides the collector with a great resource and guide, a true collector should not be without. A great addition to the library of any Beatles' collector or fan.
- This 216 page book is loaded with more than 600 full color, large, clear photos of Beatles memorabilia covering their heydey from 1964 to 1968. The beautiful picture, price guide features: Early Beatles Memorabilia, Jewelry, Buttons, Yellow Submarine, Apple Studio, Yellow Submarine Celluloids, One of a Kind Items and more. There's a brief introduction to the topic, and each picture features a description and price. Some collector resources are included. A beautiful book that Beatles collectors will love. Add it to your library.
