5 comments about Op to Pop: Furniture of the 1960's.

  1. Very impressed with the level of information provided. This book could be used as insight to one of the pure forms of art culture in the Op-Pop era. It's a must for the classroom. It's classic.

  2. It's a beautiful book, but I was looking for examples of wood furniture that I could give to a craftsman and ask to custom-replicate, so as to match the period of my house. Most of the stuff was plastic--much like the chair on cover. Fortunately, Amazon gives refunds.

  3. I just don't get anyone actually liking this book. I paid $12 and it is not even worth the shelf space. I love the author's other book. The stuff doesn't even look usable to me. Dlifferent strokes for different folks....

  4. As a person who collects and decorates with 60's pop art furniture, I use the Op to Pop book as the ultimate resource guide when looking for new pieces for my collection. Every time I logon to the internet I carry this book with me because it has every designer, manufacturer, date, and a full color photograph of every piece of pop art furniture that came out in the 60's. The best part of this book, however, is the resource guide in the back of the book which lists: every state's vintage furniture shops, current manufacturers of pop furniture, auctions carrying 60's vintage furniture, and a list of pop art-centered web sites. I highly recommend this book! I have ordered so many vintage design books, both current in print and books printed in the 60's, but none have ever compared to Op To Pop by Cara Greenberg. After reading this book, I am now inspired to buy the 50's version, written by the same author.

  5. great representation of mod 60s and 70s furniture...would like to see more knoll and knoll type knock offs, more op art.....there is much of this era to still be photographed and published, as always, leslie pins's book is a landmark guide to collectors.......we just want more and more and more......loved it and still want more,,,,

1 comments about Miller's: Collecting the 1960's (Miller's).

  1. If you're into American collectibles from the sixties, this isn't recommended. This book is almost exclusively British products. I didn't recognize any of the items as being available in the US either during the sixites here, or widely collected here now.

2 comments about The Collector's Guide To Cine Cameras.

  1. I grew up in the 50's / 60's, had my first Film Camera as a 15year old boy and many more thereafter. The book brings back lots of memories. Some of the beautiful pictures almost put "butterflys" in my eyes...It is written VERY WELL with useful details and interesting stories about the history of Movie Cameras. Like any book, there are some slight discrepancies here and there, but in general it is VERY diligently written and technically interesting and CORRECT.
I love it, it's well worth the price and I recommend it to anyone that was involved in the early (double) 8mm amateur and/or even 16mm pro area..!
    Peter K. H.

  2. The Collector's Guide To Cine Cameras by John Wade is a superbly presented guide for avid collectors wanting to pursue their specialized hobby on a reasonable budget. Chapters include a detailed history of cine cameras, close studies of specific cine camera types, and a thorough directory of manufacturers. Black and white photographs throughout depict an amazing variety of cine cameras throughout history. The Collector's Guide To Cine Cameras is a very highly recommended, indispensable guide and reference for anyone with an interest in acquiring or identifying a cine camera.

4 comments about Professional Wrestling Collectibles.

  1. Overall, a very well researched book by Mr. Pope and Mr. Whebbe. This book does not cover all wrestling collectibles, that would be impossible, however, it does give the collector a good idea of the many areas in wrestling that are out there to collect, although they do have a very in-depth coverage of the action figures and autographs.

The book also covers some of the history of wrestling and is a great book for novices and long-time collectors. There are great photos of some of the older collectibles that I have only heard about. My favorite chapters were the ones on the action figures, trading cards and autographs, which make up a large part of my 15+ year collection.

The prices listed are average, however, the value of the items in this market change so rapidly, that its hard to give a set value on some items. 5 stars to Mr. Pope and Mr. Whebbe for tackling such a huge task.

  2. Pro Wrestling Collectibles is certainly what this book is all about. Its all the other stuff covered that makes this book so interesting. My favorite chapter is number two (2) "Some Superstars Worth Collecting". The history about many of these wrestlers can be found no where else. The authors did a great job in organizing this "collectible" and putting every thing into perspective. Recommended reading for all wrestling fans!

  3. The book provided terrific reference material and continually captured my attention from page to page. The pictures added tremendous detail. The author clearly did his homework.

  4. This is a good book filled with lots of pictures and information. It is a good book for anyone but for the hardcore collector it does not cut it. Aloso the prices are a bit off on certain items. Overall the pictures make it a worthy purchase. Reccommended!

1 comments about X-Men Collector's Value Guide (Collector's Value Guides).

  1. For any beginner in the X-Men universe collecting, this book is definitely worth buying. Now, the main problem with any collector's value guide is to become obsolete within the year it is published. Nevertheless, this first edition achieve to be pleasant to read, informative, and full of pictures. Still, ALL X-Men books are not displayed Although I have been a fan of X-Men a few years ago, this guide was helpful to catch what I missed. I can't ask for more, except to expect more for the second edition.

5 comments about For the Boys: The Racy Pin-Ups of World War II.

  1. Set in a scrapbook-type format, this book showcases pin-up art used to help G.I.'s show exactly what they were fighting for back during the World Wars.

Plane Nose Art, Calenders and matchbook covers are some of the pieces showcased in this book. Everyone from Vargas to Elvgren's artworks are shown in a small sampling, that'll help entice you to look them up further.

Great racy art (considering it's been decades since they were made) of an era long gone. These pieces are definitely a 'less-is-more' situation where what you don't see is sexier than what you do.

  2. I decided to add this to my "Pin- Up Book" collection when the price fell below $$$!

Although I really had no idea what to expect, imagine my surprise (and astonishment!), when I discovered that this book is not only a great "Pin-Up" resource, but also a fantastic "Nose Art" book (in it's own right!).

Not only does it cover the B-24 Liberator (in abundance), but also includes the B-17, B-25, B-26 and B-29 (bombers), and features fighter aircraft as well! Tons of color photos, never before published.

As an added bonus, I didn't realize this was a huge "Coffee Table" book! (13.35 x 10.32 in.) with 144 pages of visual delight!

  3. The introduction to this book is an informative piece about various pin-up artists of the WWII era; however, most of the book was a scrapbook style work that left much to be desired. The main fault with the display of images was that there was no way to tell which artists created which images. Another drawback was how "racy" some of the images were. This significantly limits the appropraite audience for this book.

  4. For The Boys blends an art history book with a focus on film and military images, considering the story and influence of the pin-up girl during World War II. For The Boys profiles calendars, postcards, mathbooks and other memorabilia featuring the girls and uses many original source images by Vargas, Elvgren and others to accompany photo-packed pages and information. A colorful, revealing collection.

  5. I have quite a few books on the subject matter and although I love the original artwork being presented next to the nose-art photos, I really felt that proper credit should've been given to the artists (both original and the Service Men). On some pieces you can see the signature but on a lot of them, you can't and the artists aren't cited. On the photos of the Bombers and Fighters, it would've been nice if the authors had done a little more research and included Bomb or Fighter Groups/Squadrons to give further credit to the Service men who so faithfully recreated their favorite pin-ups on their aircraft.

The layouts are also sometimes too "BUSY" and give you a SCRAPBOOK FEELING, but again, THE ARTWORK AND PHOTOGRAPHS MAKE UP FOR THE OBVIOUS SHORTCOMINGS.

I would recommend "VINTAGE AIRCRAFT NOSEART" for better pictures of the painted aircrafts, and the "GREAT AMERICAN PIN-UP" as a starting point if you're really interested in both art forms as those two books are jammed packed with both good photographs, and rich history. then perhaps getting books on your favorite individual artists. Mine are Vargas and Elvgren.

  1. Take a trip down memory lane. The author, Michael Jay Goldberg really did his research when he created this awesome 70's book! His writing style is funny and informative. I really enjoyed this book a lot!

  2. This 2001 edition of more than 200 pages covers all aspects of 1970s collectibles. It's loaded with large, sharp, full color photos of every type of collectible from the era. Major chapters run from nostalgia, fads, smiley faces, cookbooks and fashion, to Watergate, TV, Muppets, Holly Hobbie and Punk and New Wave. There's plenty of text provided, along with item values. Many of the long forgotten items of the period brought back pleasant memories of a simpler time. Enjoy, enjoy.

  3. If you LOVE the 70s like I do then this is the book for you. It's filled with tons of groovy color photos and lots of info (not to mention memories!!) Sections of book on records, kitchenware(my fav). hippie drug paraphenalia, bicentennial and yep nixon collectibles.much more a funky section on mushroom collectibles. I recommend this groovy book. Let's hope Mr Goldberg publishes more especially on kitchenware!

5 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia of Barbie Doll Exclusives and More: Identification & Values (1977 to 1997).

  1. I have looked at many many books trying to find one that would help me to easily identify Barbie. Well folks, this is it! The pictures are wonderful, brightly colored and large enough to see detail. This is a "Must Have" book if you are a collector. (or if you buy used dolls to make up an OOAK) Well worth the money spent. I highly recommend!

  2. This book is the most wonderful Encyclopedia about Barbie dolls. It has so many dolls listed with descriptions, prices and pics of the dolls in their boxes. Many pink boxes, OOAK Mattel dolls and collectibles. Pictures are nice, they are from the doll in box, and there are closes on some dolls.

If you need information on Pink Boxes, this book is the best!!! There are a new version 'cos this is not updated, the dolls showed ends on 1999. There are no 2000 dolls or 2001. But there are a second edition, so search for the new edition!

  3. This book was very informative regarding dolls and values. I wish it would have had more of the "Special Edition" models and values though. Lots of pictures that are a good size for viewing and easy to see.

This book is put together very well, the index pages in the back make it easy to locate the dolls that you are looking for. I am a beginner and this book was very helpful for me to put a value on the dolls that I already have.

  4. I just received the COLLECTOR'S ENCYCLOPEDIA of BARBIE by JMichael Augustyniak. I thought I knew a lot about the value of eachdoll, I sell them and buy them regularly right here on amazon.com auctions. However, I opened the pages of this book and it is fantastic and a must for any serious collector. All the photos are in color, by date, series, it is all in this book. You will be amazed that some Barbies are valued in high 5 figures! I'm so glad I have this reference. Everyone who is interested in Barbie should! END

  5. Maravilloso libro ! , poseo la 1ra y 2da Edicion, y son fabulosos, fotos hermosas y claras, muy bien las descripciones de cada muñeca...,Gracias Micael Augustiniak ! desde San Luis ,Argentina RITA REVUELTO
