5 comments about The Portrait Photographer's Guide to Posing.
- First,
I Purchased, read and dissatisfied and "mad" with the "Posing Head to Toe".
then
I loan "Portrait Photographer's Guide to Posing" from the library. Wow! Bill clearly show the basic of posing and how different professional photographers do that. I own and read at least 10 books on portrait photography in different industry, children, wedding, teen... to models. The posing principle, composition... in this book can be apply to all type of photography. However, I should say, only 10% can be apply for children photography.
I buy this book with no regret at all. (don't let any other negative comments about this book. If not satisfy sent me "$@#$#@%*" :-)
- I would recommend this book to every photographer, beginner or a bit more advanced. the examples are very well explained. a big help in learning about posing etc... I would NOT buy this book at amazon, because I had to pay 10 euro custom taxes, wich is more than 30%!
- The title of this book is slightly misleading. It's not a strictly posing guide but and all-around handbook on portraits. It covers things as technical camera settings for various effects, depth of field rules (and how to break them), posing and communication techniques, composition rules, detailed guide on how to enhance/fade various details of your model (ex too large chin, overweight body, etc).
It is a great guide to have around and the perfect first step towards portraits. What I love most about it, is that for every rules it gives an example on how/when to break it.
Don't expect very creative examples, this book isn't meant to put you on a pattern. The examples are average and to the point regarding the technique discussed, they are detailed and explain both the technical part and the concept behind it. Don't expect extreme creativity or breathtaking images inside, the images inside are meant to inspire, not to guide. After you learn the techniques inside, it's up to you to put them into practice according to your own style.
- Great book, well written, clear and concise. I learned more from the first 3 chapters than 7 weeks of an instructor lead class I recently took on Portrait Photography.
- This book was exactly what I was looking for. It gives great generalized poses with good examples. I find it is one of those books that you "go back to" in order to get mental concepts for upcoming sessions.

5 comments about Digital Photography Pocket Guide, Third Edition (Pocket Reference (O'Reilly)).
- If you have used point-and-shoot camera for a while and want to learn more tricks like me, I would not recommend this book because two third of the guide gives the basics you should already know, and the last third has few tips you might think useful. In addition, this book is B&W print that makes the example photos not standing out between different settings.
- This book is pretty decent for a beginner's guide, but not as in-depth as you might expect. Overall, I'm happy with it, but if you really want a great photography book, get Understand Exposure by Bryan Peterson.
- This book is a good reference pint to start with for beginners or intermidiate. Cover many topics and list many functions. Good book to have
- Even though it is a Pocket Guide, I was expecting more from this book. I'm not saying it is a bad book but it is very very basic; practically focussed to those who have never EVER used a digital camera. The only chapter (to my taste anyway) that I find with relevant/interesting/good information is the 3rd chapter where the writer describes some tips on "how to questions". In summary, if you have some experience on digital photography this book won't be that usefull and if you want to learn about aperture, shutter speed and so on..there are better books to learn those subjects.
- I feel this is a perfect little guide for beginning digital photographers. I've been taking photos with my digital for about 3 years now and this little pocket guide still comes in handy and is very useful. It's size is perfect for carrying it with you in your camera case and it gets right to those frequent questions that come up.
A good little book to own!

- Loved this book. Great inspiration and colourful delights for the eyes and the soul. Makes your heart fly with the possibilities in design, travel, art and texture - just great.
- This is a beautiful book, wonderful photography and architecturally very interesting. It is also very heavy, large, and it only shows buildings. I have no room or need for it on my interior design shelves.
- I am an interior designer and have always been fascinated by the use of color in Mexico. This book is eye candy for any designer. The pictures are amazing and the photography wonderful. I have picked up this book so many times I have bookmarked almost every page for ideas. Great inspiration!

5 comments about Nikon D200 Digital Field Guide.
- I have purchased (4) instruction books for my Nikon D200 Camera. By far David Busch's Field Guide Book is the best ever. It is easy to understand, thorough, easy to locate specific topics while in the field. It never leaves my camera bag wherever I'm on a photo adventure. It you have a D200 you must have this book.
- Great for my needs being a D200 novice, good flow and explanations and step by step as needed at times.
- This is an excellent guidebook, with inspiring photographs and a very good mixture of Nikon-specific information with tips on how to improve your photography. It should satisfy any Nikon D200 owner.
I actually have a Nikon D300, but purchased this book because nothing is yet available for my camera. It has done a pretty good job of explaining my camera, as many of the controls and menu settings are identical in the Nikon D200 and D300. It doesn't cover features like Live View and automatic sensor cleaning, of course, but the chapters on lenses, and optimizing exposure have been particularly useful for me. The author obviously understands the Nikon camera line well, and even though the book is intended for Nikon D200 owners, it makes a good stopgap for D300 users as well.
- I have wasted my money in this book so you don't have to. Look for other options. This book is purely marketing gimmick... This is not a camera guide, but a beginner's guide to photography with some tips on how to use a D200..
- This book was not very impressive. Little technical information provided and the author rambles around quite a bit. I expected higher technical level and it truly is just a thin overview of the camera.

5 comments about One Special Summer.
- This beautiful little book is a reminder of why we should be encouraged to write about experiences that mean something to us - like your first time travelling without parents! OK, so we would not all get published as Lee did, but... Their tone and experiences will translate to so many people and remind us of where to find the fun in life.
Buy it for the girl or woman in your life. She'll have it forever!
- One thing Ms. Bouvier always represented was the epitome of good taste, elegance, eloquent and proper speech, good breeding. She was sought after by the most powerful men in the world for her finesse and broad knowledge of how to entertain, how to dress, how to decorate, how to present herself out to the world.
Women who aspire to the essence of character could always profit from any study of this women, even though some of the gossipy rags fail to capture what she was truly all about - good manners, decorum, family, politeness, steadfastness and caring.
- This was written when travel was glamorous and these two certainly made the rounds! I was journalling before journalling and scrapbooking became the present rage and enjoyed this book because it was done without the present day pre-fabbed gew-gaws. The sisters took their mother and later the lucky readers through castles and meetings with friends of friends who were high up and taught us how to handle an embarrassing situation of being taken "home" across Paris by a couple who really didn't ant to take them home, Lee did a hilarous entry of her experience at a dance where she danced with a lead-footed man who pointed out his family "all with the same noses!" and Jackie drew herself dancing with a dashing Russian Soldier during the same event. These two had a great approach to life and even their bad days were hilarious adventures. Much is written in French and it delighted my second year French-student daughter then she discovered that she was able to translate for me. After reading this book, you will discover how to have a good time and find the humor in any situation and never leave a sheet of paper or an envelope blank. Jackies' drawings are easy and cute an an inspiration! One of my daughters' teachers borrowed this book from me to show the students that they can make art anywhere about anything!
- I own an original copy of this book and it's very special to me. I love that the Bouvier sisters were able to share their experiences through a book like "One Special Summer".
- What a refreshing treasure of an illustrated young Jacqueline Bouvier this is as she tours Europe with her sister! This little compilation of sketches and notes denotes an era and a life style, with naivete and flair.

5 comments about The Polaroid Book.
- This is a classic which sold out its first printing. BUY THIS NOW! You will have, preserved on your bookshelf the essence of what Edwin Land envisioned over 65 years ago distilled in one BEAUTIFUL volume. How can the Petters Group (who now owns Polaroid) dare to banish such a beautiful art form from humanity? That's right, Polaroid has stopped making instant film and the supply may barely run through the end of this year, and all expire by the end of next year. THIS IS A CRIME AGAINST ART AND HUMANITY!! Buy the book, then go to savepolaroid.com and join us all to save this incredible art form. JUST LOOK AT THE PAGES OF THIS INCREDIBLE VOLUME!!! You will be amazed!
- WOW... words can't even begin to describe how much I love this book! It's about time they released a book like this! And the wrapper of this book is genius! It looks like a gigantic box of Polaroid film... I didn't even want to remove the cover at first... I fondled it for awhile and then I slowly peeled it off and curled up on the couch for an hour or two and looked at all the pretty pictures.
This book is highly recommended for any Polaroid enthusiast! And if you want to see some great 'roids on the net- check out Polanoid.net!
- My dad bought a Polaroid Land Camera (of the peel-apart type) before I was born... to take pictures of his chubby firstborn (that would be me, BTW).
Ever since, the sharp, colorful and amazingly stable little prints became part of our family's memory. My love for pictures was definitely boosted by the instant gratification offered by an SX-70 camera, which I still own and use after 25+ years, as well as a brand new Jobpro 600.
"The Polaroid Book" is a must for any hardcore Polaroid fan. Lotsa pictures, beautifully printed, with absolute respect for the authors' vision (Ansel Adams, Joyce Tenneson and Bill Allard, to mention only three of them). Nevertheless, the book's greatest virtue is to prove, without any doubt, that beautiful and creative work can be achieved with the simplest tools and the sheer power of imagination.
Polaroid is still alive and well, and this book is the best supporting evidence. Now, I'll just lay back and wait for that new new-old stock Polaroid Nightcam that I bought on the company's website. Let's see what that 600 film-munching baby can do.
- I recently bought this book. It shows great polaroid pictures and their simplicity attraction and much more! It's worth to have one!
- this is a fantastic photo book, the kind you want to own,
i just love it.

5 comments about The Best of Wedding Photojournalism: Techniques and Images from the Pros.
- Excellent book. Great resource for beginning wedding photographers or experienced traditional wedding photographers.
I like his style and thought process. My wife also read it and really liked his style.
- It's a great book to read with great images too. Not as much "technique" information as I expected but nonetheless no regrets in purchasing it.
- I'm not sure why this book got so many 4-5 star reviews! Obviously, it's full of great photographer's work. But this book, in my humble opinion, is one for the coffee table. It seems to be a compilation of work promoting a group of WPPI photographers - the first 4-5 pages spotlight all the featured photographers - which dilutes the book far too much. If you are new to wedding photography (as I am - i've only been shooting weddings for about a year) I suggest you read Digital Wedding Photography: Capturing Beautiful Memories. Best of luck!
- If your doing weddings or want to start, this book is excellent. It will get you thinking outside the box.
- It truly provides you great techniques and shows you how one can really take the best photos in a wedding

5 comments about Canon Speedlite System Digital Field Guide.
- This was a big waste of money. The writing was amateurish, the examples poorly described, and I learned almost nothing from reading this book. I had to Google to learn about my 430EX because the book failed to explain key concepts.
- It's good to find a book that can help you to understand the functionality of the speedlite, and this book is what I was searching for.
- The Canon Speedlite system field guide is a very informative. It is precise and to the point. It is easy to read and understand. The illustrations are well presented and because of the layout of this particular book in question, I have a much better understanding of my flash unit. It far outseeds the manual that comes with the unit. I highly recomend this book. A+ A+ A+ A+ Thanks.
- It complements the manual very well. The Author includes not only how the 430/580EX flashes work and all of the different functions of each, but also some sample set ups and how to get the most from your 430/580EX. I wouldn't hesitate to get this, very informative and written along the lines of the other books from the "Digital Field Guide" series.
- Many reviewers are disappointed by this book because they were expecting more of a step-by-step learning approach.
A field guide is useful as a quick reference rather than as a tutorial.
If you want a tutorial on how to use your Canon Speedlite, you should consider getting the DVD Understanding the Canon Speedlite 580EX / 430EX in addition to this very useful field guide.

5 comments about Design Basics Index (Index Series).
- This book was mis-listed for one of my classes, but after buying it, I found myself taking it everywhere with me and reading it anytime I had spare time. Every time you look through it, you learn something new. As most artistic people are, I'm very visual, and all the examples really enhance the book and help to cement the ideas and rules. Very colorful, helpful and ultimately FUN TO READ! I love this book and recommend it!!
- If you bought this book your going to be extremely happy. I have 5+ years in design and I'm learning new things as I go through this book. It's teaching me things my teachers in COLLEGE did not even teach. This is hands down one of the strongest books I've ever read and the exercises inside provide so much great hands on experiments for you to play with.
If you already spent the money to buy The non-designers graphic design book you need to buy this! This goes into so much great detail than I would've expected.
All I can say is WOW. Great investment. I've totally changed the way I look at design.
- This is the book that was missing in college. So what makes the difference between Wow and O.K. Read it, study it, do the excersizes... follow it. I wish every hobbist in the digital scrapbook world would discover this book.
Jim Krause is one of THE BEST teachers of our time.
- I had to buy this book for school, but I love the way it's laid out. It's very colorful, very informative, and it's small size with a strong plastic cover makes it easy to take with you everywhere or throw in your purse.
I have learned a lot from this book so far.
- This book covers the basics of graphic design and is great for a beginner. It's also worthwhile for any intermediate or advanced designer to have in their collection for review. It's a small book so it's easy to carry around and not daunting to read.
