5 comments about I Love Lucy Book.
- The book itself is very informative, although the photos are of inferior quality. Is is very disappointing to see that the photos were not considered to be important enough to reproduce them with a good quality, rather than as if someone ran them off in a copy machine.
- This was the first book ever written on the classic I LOVE LUCY series (possibly the first book ever written about a single television series) and it's still the best. I am currently on my second copy of it, my old paperback now replaced by the latest updated version. Stands up beautifully a quarter of a century after it was written. It's not a gossip fest or a academic study, just a straight-forward and detailed look at America's most beloved tv show and certainly it's most gifted television star. Way to go Bart!
- Many books have been written on the 'I Love Lucy' series, but this one stands the test of time as the best ever. Originally published about 20 years ago, under the title 'Lucy, Ricky, Fred, and Ethel' it was revamped after the death of Lucille Ball and updated into this volume. Bart Andrews had access to everyone who had anything to do with the series, including Vivian Vance, Desi Arnaz, and Lucille Ball. His research is exhaustive, and the book is richly detailed in behind the scenes looks at the making of the series.
This is not a biography of the people, but the story of the series. There are small biographical sketches of the stars, but here you see how the series came to fruition, and the incredible talent and foresight of Desi Arnaz inventing the three-camera method. You also find out the gossip of who didn't get along, the perfectionism, and the comraderie. The icing on the cake are detailed descriptions of each and every episode, including air dates, music, and guest stars. Each season is covered in detail. Every 'I Love Lucy' fan should have this on their bookshelves.
- "The I Love Lucy Book" has no equal. If you want to make a fan drool with delight (or if you want to keep them quiet for hours at a time), buy them this book. Stuffed with more trivia than I ever thought possible, it is the perfect companion for the devoted Lucy fan. I've read and re-read it, till I know it inside out, yet it's still fun to read. This is one of the most excellent compendiums of television history you'll ever find.
- One of the best books about TV I've ever read. Highly recommended.

2 comments about Acting: A Handbook of the Stanislavski Method.
- Truly a must have reference for any aspiring actor. Not dry or boring like other reviewer stated. It is fast paced and offers practical info. A classic!
- This is a pretty good overview of Stanislavski's "Method Acting" as used by Brando, Dean, and Pacino.
At times, the book drones on and on...tiring you out. So if you can rent it at the library, do it.

4 comments about God's Ear: A Play.
- Jenny Schwartz's play should be read as well as seen to appreciate her intricate and intense use of language. Sh plays with depicting strong and frightening emotions while filtering them through stylized language and funny and absurd situations. Her work is amazingly intricate and utterly entertaining.
- I'm teaching an undergrad course in Absurdism, and wanted something besides Pinter, Beckett, Stoppard. This play is current, being done right now, so students will be feeling "in the moment" with it.
- This play has attained somewhat of a cult following since it's premiere Off Off Broadway two seasons ago, and it's revival this year at Off Broadway's esteemed Vineyard Theatre. Basically, it is about how a couple deals, or rather avoids dealing, with the loss of a child, their inability to express their feelings. Paralyzed by grief, the only words that come out of their mouths seem to be cliches, some of which hit the nail on the head, others which hilariously trivialize the situation. If you think this might get real old real fast, read the play. In the hands of brilliant new playwright, Jenny Schwartz, it becomes not only gut wrenching, but gut busting. To further dispel any fears that all this might get a bit too heavy, may I offer: The dramatist personae also includes: The Tooth Fairy, a transvestite stewardess, a live action figure and a delightfully dipso nymphomaniac.
- This is a gorgeous play that must be read as Ms. Schwartz's text wraps around you like a poem written in water. The way she uses language is so unique and consuming, it will simply blow you away.
Ms. Schwartz is an incredibly talented voice for the American Theatre that needs to be heard and seen.

2 comments about Communicating: A Social and Career Focus (10th Edition).
- You found it! The authors have led the field for dozens of years, and they continue to provide impressive work. Again, the new edition has substantial updating for students and teachers of the hybrid or blended communication course. You will find a nice balance of public speaking and interpersonal communication theories and skills.
There's a reason why this textbook continues as the top selling work in the field. Berko, Wolvin, and Wolvin are excellent scholars and teachers. Berko does the bulk of the work himself, so you'll find clear unity with the text and the support materials. The instructor's manual is top notch!
- This book was for school and I loved it. It was easy to read and the material was relevant to 2007 and my course.

2 comments about Three By Tennessee.
- I hope to read this one many times. Each time will generate a new insight; a new revelation. The multi-layers of the human condition are all here in their raw glory. Williams could see well beyond the horizon from the atmospheric veranda at the Costa Verde.
Fantastic!
- It's amazing how well the works of Mr. Williams have held up after all these years. Then again, when you write classics that's what they're supposed to do.
While all these plays are great, NIGHT OF THE IGUANA is by far his best. My favorite line: "Oh,God, can we please stop now." I'm paraphrasing, but you get the idea. But the most remarkable thing about Mr. William's plays are that, while they almost always deal with the south, decay, decadence, incredible insight into the human condition, and graphic and moving looks into the human heart, they are all completely different. How much this man must have lived to have produced this varied and complex a body of work. If you're a fan of Southern literature, and especially Tennessee Williams, please check out some other "finds:" OTHER VOICES, OTHER ROOMS by Capote, BARK OF THE DOGWOOD by McCrae, and AVA'S MAN by Bragg.

5 comments about The Hooterville Handbook: A Viewer's Guide To Green Acres.
- Once again Stephen Cox writes an amazing book! Like its "siblings", this book is full of incredible photographs, rare trivia and interesting tid-bits. The painstaking research is always evident in this author's books. If you love Oliver, Lisa, Fred Ziffel and gang, then you're going to love this book!
- A sneak peek behind the Green Acres phenomenon. Contains exclusive interviews, publicity photos, trivia & episode guide.
- The Hooterville Handbook gives the reader unknown knowledge about the creation, and development of one of the kookiest sitcoms, "Green Acres". It supplies various essays regarding the impact of and interesting things about Hootervile (also Green Acres) and all of its locals. What was so special about Arnold the pig? WAS that salesman married or not? Such pressing questions are masterfully answered by Mr. Cox. Only one glitch, that seems to occur in most of Cox's Classic TV books; he doesn't seem to enjoy writing, watching, or doing anything involving his profession. He writes with a cold air of superiority, which could come across as professional, or rudely distant. Overall, however, this book was fascinating, a good read, and had the insights of the cast, crew, and random essay writers.
- I saw Eddie Albert signing a copy of this book at a nostalgia event in Los Angeles in 1998 and I had to go out and buy this book. It's fantastic. You will need no other book to find out about this surreal and wonderful TV classic. Author Steve Cox has done a great job covering the bizarre characters and the exquisite cast of actors who made up this neat show. The photos are rare and presented in the book with a nice design and the Foreword by my favorite character, Hank Kimball, is hilarious. If you want a book about a Sixties TV show and you like Paul Henning's programs ( The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction) then you'll love this book. Don't pass it up.
- I have had this book in my possession for a long time. It is a necessary tool for any one that wants to know all there is to know about "Green Acres". All of the episode descriptions, guest star information and original dates of airing are listed. There are also interviews with the cast members. Again this is a must have item.
