2 comments about Dancing With Dogs: Easy-to-learn Techniques and Fun Routines for You and Your Dog.

  1. Mary Ray, one of the best freestyle dancers in the world, has done an excellent job in writing this book for all those who want to learn more about doing Freestyle with their dogs. It gives step by step instructions using pictures and diagrams on how to teach certain moves making them very easy to follow. It gives ideas of what kind of moves look good in a dance including starting and finishing poses. There is a section on how to plan a dance out on paper, including music, props and costumes. It concludes with an entire section of Mary Rays dance routines with an explanation of the moves, costumes and music. This book is a "must have" to both the novice and the more advanced freestyle enthusiast.

  2. I'm giving the book a paws up. The layout is very inviting -
spacious with lots of pictures and easy to read. From cover to cover,
the book probably takes about 2 hours to read. To perform all the
training and routines in the book would take a lifetime.

Some of the information is very general - clicker training on a single
page. However, the general information does includes the most
    important aspects of training concepts.

Much of the strength of the book is in the Dance Routines shown in the
later chapters. She's got routines for Star and Stripes, Singing in
the Rain, Puppet on a String, and others. She outlines the steps and
tricks in the routine and supplements the written description with
pictures. She suggests music to use with the routines, films to watch,
and tips for improving your performance.

The book would be a fabulous resource for a 4H club, anyone trying to
put together his or her first routine, or an expercienced freestyler
looking for some new ideas. A book you might refer to over and over, picking up something new each time. At the price you can't beat it.

1 comments about Ten 10-Minute Plays.

  1. As Schenkkan's "The Kentucky Cycle" and the Actor's Theatre of Louisville's annual contest demonstrate, 10-Minute plays are a very powerful form of Drama. This collection of work, edited by Walter Wykes, proves this fact in short order (no pun intended). Wykes' own "The Salmon Tribunal" explores the lingering effect of betrayal on two women; Nick Zagone's "The DMV One" stages the circle of life for a relationship during one trip to the DMV; and, Eric Kaiser shows us an Orwellian world that seems far too close to reality these days in "The Weed Dreams." And these are just three of the ten great plays you'll find here. Playwrights Geg Vovos, LB Hamilton, Douglas Hill, Biran E. Rochlin, Jeanette D. Farr, Julianne Homokay, and Jeff Goode all include work that shows why the 10-minute form is as good as anything in the Theatre today.

5 comments about Savion!: My Life in Tap.

  1. Hello to all those tappers out there - I love all of you - Including you Savion. My name is Vaughan and I am actually Australian. My mother taught me how to tap ever since I could stand on two feet. Now, I'm 19 years old. And I'm a professional tap dancing teacher in Japan. Let me just say that I could relate a lot with what Savion was talking about. His views on tap and the way he wants it to go.

It's a fun book to read - with some great action tap shots of Savion throughout his life. The layout is very original, and very creative - it was nice to take my mind off my uni degree for a couple of hours and learn about this extremely successful tap dancer. Someone who I didn't know too much about, but now somehow believe that I've known him all my life.

It's a great art - Tap Dancing. And I wish there were people who could indulge themselves in a couple of professional / guest classes. I go around all of Japan teaching in my holidays, and I try to get as many people involved. Maybe because not many people do it, thats what makes it so unique. Thanks Savion - for following your dreams and publishing this book. It was a great read.

    Your fellow Tap Dancer... Vaughan

  2. I couldn't put this book down. As a tapper, who is into hoofing and rythm tap, this book was amazing. It explains not only Savin's life and his career but how he uses his shoes to do what he does. This book brings an element of percusion into the dance world that needs to be more widely used.

  3. We've been hearing his wonderful rhythms for years, now we finally get to hear his voice. What a true inspiration! This book just makes you want to jump up and start moving your feet. Believe me, this book is not just for children. I used it as required reading for my advanced tap class at the local college.

  4. Great design, photos, behind the scenes of one of the greatesttap dancers, Savion Glover! All the info on Savion in one quick read- great for all ages.

  5. Thank you sir for sharing your wonderful inner world of rhythm with the world! You are an inspiration to all of us who make a living lacing up those tap shoes everyday. Your loving and pricelesss contribution to this wonderful artform are greatly appreciated and honored.

2 comments about Peter Pan and Other Plays: The Admirable Crichton; Peter Pan; When Wendy Grew Up; What Every Woman Knows; Mary Rose (Oxford World's Classics).

  1. I admit it is odd that, after being a fanatical Pan Fan for three years, I just recently read a copy of the play (back in March), which is essentially where it all began. I was surprised at how different it was from the novel "Peter Pan and Wendy". There are several instances in the play that are not in the novel (for instance, the children try to catch a mermaid), and also some things that have been added exclusively to the novel (like how Wendy issues examinations on home-life). There were introductions to each act describing the setting, which is helpful in envisioning the Darling's adventures.
I was sorry to find that the play lacked the emotion of the book, although this was most likely because I was not actually watching actors perform it. Dialogue and stage directions can be pretty dull, even with the wonderful narration provided by Barrie.
Even though it was lacking in emotion, most of the characters are more well-developed in the play. Peter and the Darlings are more realistic in this edition, probably because they have more dialogue. I even liked Tink better in the play than in the book. However, I was disappointed at what small parts the Lost Boys had. Even when they did make appearances, their dialogue was not as funny as it was in the book. The same goes for Mr. Smee.
It was also strange to read such a different ending. Slightly the Lost Boy does not even get Mrs. Darling for his mother! This particular edition also includes the short play "An Afterthought", where Peter returns when Wendy is grown. I surprised to hear that Wendy had married a lost boy, although they do not say which one she marries.
All in all, I preferred the novel over the play. It was far more descriptive and touching. But I still recommend the play as a necessary alternative addition to any Peter Pan library.
(By the way, the other plays in this book are excellent, too.)

P.S. Check out the other Peter Pan-related reviews by Tinkerbell III!

  2. This book is a MUST for anyone who likes Peter Pan. It contains the entire text of the 1904 version of the stage play "Peter Pan," which is the basic text used by the Broadway-musical version of the play. That's how it all began! This book also contains a long section of footnotes & historical background, invaluable for any Peter Pan fan. (James M. Barrie's novel about Peter Pan was written 7 years after the play & does NOT contain much of the dialog of the play.)

5 comments about Tomart's Price Guide to Worldwide Star Wars Collectibles.

  1. I found this guide to be very complete for older star wars collectables, but I was dissapointed that it did not have any more current star wars items such as the Saga or 30th Anniversary collectables. This is not a bad reflection on the book itself as the information in the book is very accurate. I would have still bough the book had I know it only had older items listed. An update with current values and items would be a great idea.

  2. I bough this book recently and was surprised to find, not only are all the pictures tiny, THEY ARE BLACK AND WHITE! It is increadibly hard to read and does not cover "revenge of the Sith". I have a few other Sansweet books "the action figure archive", "the star wars poster book" and "star wars - from concept to screen collectibles". But, young jedi, save your money here and consider "Star Wars Super Collector's Wish Book: Identification & Values" by Geoffrey T Carlton. I find that book gets used alot more, is more up to date and easier to read. Hope this review was helpful (I think I was being generous with 3 stars, I havent opened this book since I got "super collectors wishbook")

  3. The "Tomart Guide" is the only Star Wars price guide you'll ever need. It is comprehensive with just about every production Star Wars item known to exist in the world. Did you know that they made "Star Wars Dog Chow" in Australia in the early 1980's? How about a ceramic tape dispenser where you pull tape from between C-3P0's legs? Or a Boba Fett cake pan...there's no better way to honor the most notorious bounty hunter in the galaxy than a frosted cake with his likeness. From tacky to the timeless, it's all contained within the pages of the Tomart guide, with hundreds of photographs of many of the items listed in the book. No true Star Wars collecting geek should go without it. This is the only Star Wars price guide authorized by Lucasilm, and no other guide is as detailed and thorough as the Tomart guide.

  4. This is it - the only book you will ever need to find what you have been looking for in the STAR WARS universe!

"DO or DO NOT, there is no try." - YODA

  5. Tomart's Price Guide to Worldwide Star Wars Collectibles is the most valuable book any Star Wars collector can own. Stephen Sansweet is the expert in the field of Star Wars collectibles and it definitely shows here. The layout is so easy to use and the book contains many photographs to aid you in your search for what each collectible is worth. This is the bible for Star Wars collectors!
