5 comments about The Beatles: A Private View.

  1. I purchased this as a gift for a friend, and I was excited to see how beautiful it was. I am a Beatles fan as well and I was very tempted to keep it for myself. :)
It's a heavy, well made picture book. You can't help but smile when looking at some of the photos. You just wish you could have been there at that moment they were taken.
If you love the Beatles then I am very sure you'll love this book. Don't pass it up!

  2. Freeman really doesn;t have a lot to say about either the Beatles or the photos he took of them...no professional insights on photography and no intriguing thoughts on the Beatles in the context of the British pop culture scene in the 1960's. Photos are nothing new beyond the album covers, nothing we haven't scene in Hoffman's, Gunther's, Benson's and even Beatle Biographies from Davies, Schaffner and Norman, etc.
Don't waste your money - by Hoffman's or Lewisohn's chronicles book if you want nice photos, and more insightful text.

  3. This book is a treat anybody would love. There are a plethora of delightful photographs that will make readers, from the inveterate fans to those just becoming familiar with the Fab 4 feel as if they are "meeting" the Beatles.

This author has a real flair for natural expression and the writing style is crisp and fresh. This is a book with something to offer everyone and I cannot recommend it highly enough. As the only Beatles' fan in my family, I've "introduced" many relatives to the wonderful phenomenon that was the Beatles!

This one gets a stellar endorsement and an enthusiastic "YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!" from me! I love it!

  4. For anyone who thinks this is just a re-issue of the the previous book, think again. There are something like 30 "new" pictures. I just loved the new look on some of the older one's like Lennon with the Panda that's now in color and the pic of The Beatles with Mick Jagger really brings you back. This book was such a delight, I purchased the collector's edition that includes a limited edition print for my husband. At the price listed here on Amazon, you will not be disappointed by this book.

  5. This book makes you feel like you really met the Beatles! The NEW book has a revised text that is great and many new pictures I never saw before! This book is a winner and a must for every Beatles fan.

2 comments about Warman's Kiss Collectibles Field Guide: Values And Identification (Warman's Field Guides).

  1. I have read and enjoyed Tom Shannon's first KISS price guide since it was released in 2000 & have found it to be a VERY informative and helpful resource for pricing my collection. The prices are quite accurate and it is very thorough, covering nearly every item in the vast KISS memorabilia empire. It is a very well done book and the printing is top notch. I have been very eagerly awaiting Shannon's new book since I heard he would be starting another about two or three years ago. I purchased his new book "Warman's KISS Collectibles Field Guide" and in my opinion, it leaves much to be desired. Although this is of the highest quality printing, its thick & small 4 1/2" by 5 1/2" size makes it difficult to go navigate easily. Also the amount of info on the pages is very limited due to its small size. The tons of quality color photos he includes with his books are a big plus. It does feature the prices on the listed page rather than having to flip to the back of the book, which was the case with the 2000 book which is a bonus. Many of the old items that were in the first book are in this book. I was expecting much more of the newer items to be included in the book. Much to my disappointment, where some items may have been left out of a category in the 2000 edition, many complete categories are left out completely in the 2005 edition. This is a far better printed book than Ingo Floren's (released last year), although not as complete. If you want a GREAT price guide pick up Tom Shannon's first book. This one may fill in some gaps for newer items, but it is not a complete listing by any means. It does have an interview with Bill Aucoin that is very interesting. This would make a good traveling companion (hence the name Field Guide?) due to its small size.

  2. This is an excellent book. Tons of terrific color photos along with a cool interview with former Manager Bill Aucoin makes this product a winner!

1 comments about To Be Continued...: 1930'S & 1940's Serial Movie Posters (Illustrated History of Movies Through Posters, Volume 16).

  1. There is surprisingly little overlap between this book's contents
and the contents of the previous (and sold out) SERIAL MOVIE
POSTERS. One reason is that this new book is based on an
incredible collection assembled by Frank Gutierrez.
What we have are posters from sound serials dating from about 1931 to about 1954, the end of the serial era.
The best of the serial posters are reminiscent of the best pulp magazine covers from the 1920s to the 1950s, and often
are rendered in somewhat the same style. My favorites in the
present volume tend to use a subdued palette, such as
5, for THE GALLOPING GHOST, which is a striking study in
grey, orange and red, or 28, for the orginal FLASH GORDON,
chapter 4, which uses shades of grey, orange, and a few touches
of red. Also lovely is the poster for TIM TYLER'S LUCK, which
uses reds, flesh tones, olive grey and cream shades.
As the 30s wear into the 40s the painted artwork becomes increasingly crude
and amateurish. An exception is 107,
for BRENDA STARR, REPORTER. Artwork tends to become a frame
for a tinted still from the film, and the frames get thinner
and thinner. Still, there are points of interest. The poster
for BRICK BRADFORD (112) is almost as wild as this wildest of
    all movie serials.
Serial posters are far rarer than movie posters in general, and
this is a very worthy compilation of images most of us have
never seen, and will never see any other way!

5 comments about Warmans Vintage Guitars Field Guide: Values And Identification (Warman's Field Guides).

  1. Not very happy with the information in this book. Tried to look up a Martin Guitar 021, there is 11 pages of Martin consisting of 9 guitars only. Eric Clapton auction guitars has 66 pages. Wish I had read the reviews before I ordered. Tried to look up Les Paul custom, there are 2, a 1955 and a 1958.

  2. I was very dissapointed in this book. It has no real value to a collector. If it was a lot larger and thinner, it would be an attractive coffee table book. If you want pretty pictures and you have a very small coffee table, buy this book. If you want real information, get George Gruhn's guide and Vintage Guitar's price guide.

  3. Pocket-sized mini-reference of the major guitar manufacturers. Also includes some amps.

I was a little disappointed in this book. It has lots of color pictures of the most popular guitars (several of the same model in some instances) and price ranges. There is also a potted history of each manufacturer. However, there is little or no detail or description of each model.

Easy reading, and good for somebody just discovering guitars who wants a cheap and quick visual reference to the most popular models.

  4. unlike field guides to, say, western reptiles or birds, this book contains almost no information on the guitars in the guide. basically it is a picture book of a few examples of a few models, with very little descriptive information or text to inform us of year by year changes or other forms of "speciation". it's not really much of a filed guide, it won't help you in the field. it's a pocket book of pretty pictures.

  5. Some nice pictures of some nice guitars but not very helpful in identification, significance, or value of vintage guitars. I will donate this book to the local library.

5 comments about The Monkees Collectibles Price Guide: Collectibles Price Guide.

  1. I am late on reviewing this book but had to comment. I LOVE this book. Very goog work and research! Great photography! It's so nice to see someone put this much effort in a Monkees collectible book. My only complaint is the records are not valued correctly. We need a Monkees record collecting guide. If not for values, just to see the great world wide covers of the albums, single and EP's that differ from country to country.

Marty Eck ( Is that his real name?)bought most of the items in this book. Since most of us could never afford such a collection or FIND some of these gems, this is a great coffee table book. Again with putting values on collectibles, any kinds, is a matter of supply and demand.

To me, Ebay is where I usually can find recent values. Being a Monkees record collector, I am thinking of joining forces with a major colector in the UK to create the book I always wanted. This book is a great asset to anyone's Monkees collection! Buy it!

  2. I love this book it has everything you need to know what is very valuable. There's a lot of interesting stuff in it that was very popular and sold very well back then when the Monkees were quite hot......So I also consider this book a classic because it has so much information in it I just love it......

  3. If you enjoyed The Monkees you can't miss with this 208 page, softbound volume that contains more than 400 large, sharp, full color photos of every type of The Monkees collectible. More than 600 items are documented and priced for the period 1966 to 1972. Pre-Monkees items involving individual band members are included. Topics range from The Monkees history, books, magazines, music, fan clubs, trading cards, concert items, movies and counterfeit items. There is sufficient text included that is interesting and informative. If you were a Monkees fan you'll enjoy reliving times past. A super book you'll enjoy. Add it to your library.

  5. I also know the Author very well and I am glad that he finally put out the one and only Monkees Price guide. I do recommend it. I have bought stuff from the author personally and he really know this stuff.

4 comments about Who Goes There?: 1950'S Horror & Sci-Fi Movie Posters & Lobby Cards.

  1. All of Bruce Hershenon's books are worth a dozen times what he sells them for; flawless, stunning reproductions of great movie posters. Buy them ALL!

The one star setback is the tininess of the lobby cards; they deserved better treatment.

  2. I used this book for a slightly different use: I cut out the pictures to use for decoupaging a table. It served its purpose excellently as the pictures were just the right size. My one complaint is that there were too many instances in which the same movie had quite a few posters, each one looking just barely different.

  3. I guess the other reviewer has no concept of art, or probably has no idea these posters are worth thousands of dollars each, at least. If you don't believe me, check out the author's background, as he used to run Christies auctions, as well as his own eBay auctions, to the tune of a lot of money since 1989. So, if you're a movie buff, have an appreciation for this art, and can afford it, then great! If not, go whine somewhere else!

  4. A collection of movie posters for the well-remembered science
fiction films of 1950 - 1964? And sets of lobby cards to
sweeten the pot? Well, the problem is that most of the
science fiction films from this period were ultra-low budget,
which translates as to "no money for art for posters," and
"no colorizing of stills used as lobby cards." And that
translates further to, "of very little visual interest."

Not that there are not some good posters, but the good ones
are all familiar. THE THING (7) features giant letters carved
apparently out of gobbets of raw flesh! INVASION OF THE BODY
SNATCHERS (38) features tiny images of running pairs of
    people on a half-red, half-yellow background with a
superimposed hand print. The beautifully painted poster for
ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN is not only a fine portrait of the
sultry Allison Hayes, but depicts the largest "squirrel shot"
in the history of urban civilization! But you've seen 'em.

There is so little of real interest here that you'll find
yourself killing time by counting the number of posters that
feature monsters or robots carrying girls in a scandalous state
of undress. Having done that you may find yourself reduced
to looking for posters in which the monsters or robots carry
(or sort of brandish!) boys and adult males (all fully clothed,
    I am happy to say).

If none of this sounds appealing, I suggest you save your money,
and I wish that I had.

1 comments about 60 Great Cowboy Movie: Illustrated History of Movies.

  1. This is more like it.. I was a little disappointed that the 'More Cowboy Movie Posters' in the same series did not feature full page copies of posters. This book has full page posters. There are some fine reproductions in the book and it is a testament to some of the great cinema westerns.
