5 comments about Schnibbles Times Two: Quilts from 5" or 10" Squares (That Patchwork Place).
- What a fun book. Do you love layer cakes and charm packs? Do you wish you knew what to do with layer cakes and charm packs? I know we all love these little bundles of love.
Here's the perfect book for those of us who love the variety of these fabric packs. There are twelve patterns, each given with two varieties. One pattern for a 10" layer cake, and one pattern for the 5" charm packs.
Each pattern is adorable. Seriously adorable! I know there are some books that have beautiful patterns...and then some patterns we know we will never make. Not in this book. Each pattern draws you in, and makes you think of how you could make it, and who it would be perfect for. I can't wait to get started on some myself.
- Schnibbles Times Two: Quilts from 5" or 10" Squares displays twelve pairs of quilts using large square, presenting the idea of building a large quilt from 10" Layer Cake squares. Each quilt includes materials and a cutting list, assembly instructions, and keys to creating a 'schnibble' using leftover fabric bits. Quilting libraries will relish this survey!
- Schnibbles Times Two is a terrific book for several reasons: 1) There are SO many patterns - what a great value! I will be using this book again and again. 2) Carrie Nelson, the author/designer, shows the reader various colorways and after reading this book several times, I cannot wait to try out the patterns with my stash. 3) The writing is easy, engaging and funny! The book is very readable and is a neat companion to her blog. 4) Carrie's methods for piecing are clever and I will use her techniques in all of my quilts. You can tell she likes to figure out how to make a pattern easier and she has some ingenious ideas. I also like the fact that you can make both a bigger and smaller quilt, using the new fabric cuts that are available 5) Excellent photography! I want every quilt in this book and they will make wonderful gifts. This will be one of my "go-to" quilting books and now I want to purchase Carrie's other books as well. Great job!
- If I could give Carrie Nelson's Schnibbles times two ten stars, I would. I have been a fan of Carrie's Schnibbles patterns since she first released them, and her newest book is more of a very good thing! This book has all things a perfect quilting book should have: enticing, fun designs, great photography plus flat pictures of each quilt, clear, concise, very well written, complete easy to follow step-by-step well illustrated instructions, answers to all the questions you have ever had regarding stitching with pre-cuts (especially those yummy little charm squares you've been collecting with no idea of how you would ever use them!), all resulting in a great looking finished quilt. I'm telling you, if you love scrappy quilts, pre-cuts, and just plain GOOD writing and GOOD instructions, you need to have this book.
- This book is filled with wonderful ideas and good instructions. It is a great opportunity to use charm packs or layer cakes, but it is also easy to adapt to your own stash. I particularly liked the different size options and the variety of palettes that she used. Her instructions are very clear and I have learned to make several blocks that I had not tried before.
Carrie's writing style is so warm and friendly, you feel as though you have your own mentor/friend in the room working with you! I especially think anyone looking for inspiration for quilts to make as gifts will find this a treasure!

1 comments about The Rose of Sharon Block Book: Winning Designs from the EQ6 Challenge (That Patchwork Place).
- First of all, I love the rich yet contemporary designs and this book really inspires me to break out my applique tools but...it is very frustrating to purchase a book specifically for the patterns and then find they all have to be enlarged 200 percent. I don't have the capability at home and the nearest copy store is 45 miles away. Not to mention the added costs.
All of the patterns are symetrical so it would have been simple to have quarter block, full-sized patterns, right in the book. Much easier to reproduce at home.

5 comments about The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt: Letters from 1920s Farm Wives and the 111 Blocks They Inspired.
- The quilt itself is absolutely beautiful. The up-close color photos of the individual squares are very helpful in choosing colors and fabrics for the quilt. The frustrating part is that each pattern piece, not the pattern for the entire block, is located on a pdf file on the CD and there are no dimensions. For example, the Attic Windows block is comprised of two of the #2 pdf file, two of the #14 pdf file, one of the #1 file, and two of the #3 file so you have to print seven pages (they recommend not copying the printed pieces because they may be distorted). The Shooting Star block requires multiples of eleven different pattern pieces. There are a total of 106 different pdf files for the pattern pieces so it is is more like 111 jigsaw puzzles than quilt blocks. The book recommends that you print all 106 files and put them in a 3-ring binder. Another suggestion is to copy them onto plastic templates and write the number on each one. Because there are no dimensions, you are forced to print a simple square or rectangle unnecessarily when you could have just measured it on the fabric if you knew what size it was. The value of the book is in the history of the quilt and in the color photos of the block. The instruction (or lack thereof) to recreate the quilt is poor.
- When I saw this book, I had to make the quilt so I bought the book. This book is thoroughly enjoyable to read. I read the letters as I make the corresponding quilt blocks.
This book is NOT FOR BEGINNERS. The author assumes the people making the quilt are experienced quilters and that they know how to use a computer to open and print pdf files in order to make the fabric cutting templates.
- Laurie did an adequate job of restating the stories told by the farmers' wives. The stories, however, are sappy and badly outdated.
As to the quilt portion of the book, she does not even appear to have any knowledge as a quilter. There are no instructions for assembling the various blocks and the templates are more often wrong than right. As a result, the quilter is on her own to recalculate each and every piece of each and every block. Gee, why did we need your book, Laurie? Even an experienced quilter would become frustrated with this project.
If you want to make a sampler quilt based on historical blocks, do the Sylvia's Bridal Quilt or one of the Civil War quilts instead. Those books are well written.
- I am relatively new to quilting and I bought this book because I want to learn how to make more quilt blocks. I am also an avid history fan and the book appealed to me in that way, as well. This book has many advantages for the new and experience quilter, and a few small drawbacks as well.
First, the history. This book reprints 42 letters that were written in response to a 1922 query by Farm Wife's that asked "Would you want your daughter to marry a farmer?" The letters that have been reprinted here provide an insight not only into what women want for their daughters, but for what their own daily lives were like. That was fascinating reading. I wish the other letters were printed in this tome, for there 68 letters printed by the magazine.
Also, the quilt blocks themselves are fun to look at and great for ideas. My only gripe is that many of the blocks have fabrics very similar in color and tone, and the contrasts are often hard to pick out or almost lost. I can understand that this might be a person's preferred style (although if I tried to do this my quilting teacher would beat me over the heat with a fabric bolt) but it does make the pattern hard to detect.
There are many good reasons to get this book. It comes with a CD-Rom that has printable templates of all the quilt blocks, as well as template instructions for each block provided in the back. It is very helpful. There are also instructions on how to use the blocks to make several different sizes of quilts from lap to king.
Overall, I would recommend this book to a new or experience quilter. If you are brand new to quilting you will need some quilting instruction from an outside source for the actual piecing and construction. But this is fun to look at and the letters are great reading.
- Excellent and huge collection of quilt blocks. The cd is not very helpful. Still very worthwhile book!

5 comments about The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns: 4050 Pieced Blocks for Quilters.
- This book is a must have for the serious quilter. Easy read. Great resource for dating and constructing blocks.
This is a glorious book.
The instructions given for pattern design are
very clear and conscise.
The selection of patterns and variety of fabrics used
gives unlimited pleasure and this is certainly going to
be one of my perennial favourites.
- I purchased the book and I was really happy with it. Enjoyed looking at it. But using the book as a refrence is frustrating. My complaint is that the layout with the grids make the book difficult to use. When I want to make a quilt I do not decide to make a 6-grid quilt. I want to make a basket quilt and look at all the basket quilts. There are a few pages where all the quilts have been put together by quilt type - but they are not all inclusive and scattered through out the book. The more I use the book the more disappointed with it I am. I can tell a lot of work went into this book and the grids are nice when it comes time to make the block pattern but would find the book much more useful if it were sorted differently. Not everything needs a grid. A small block repeating would be considered a 16 grid where I would consider it a 2 grid.
- Eu não sei se eu entendi o que você quer.
The books I bought are very important to me
because I have many doubts about Patchwork
and the books help me to understand better.
It was an excellent purchase. I'm very satisfied
to buy these books in Amazon.com.
These books are marvellous!
- This book is beautifully presented and will be a great resource for my quilting projects.

5 comments about Cozy Modern Quilts: 23 Easy Pieced Projects to Bust Your Stash.
- I was impressed because this "like new" book was brand new and in great condition! And I received the book less than 1 week after ordering it online.
- I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. I've only quilted for a couple of years so I still consider myself a beginner quilter. I think this book has something for everyone from contemporary to traditional quilts. I've already purchased my fabrics for the "Red Rover Lap Quilt". I fell in love with the assorted reds, blacks and black & white color scheme. I knew I had to make it the moment I saw a large picture of the quilt near the front of the book.
- I don't often like to follow patterns because I find geometric designs are not free enough for my taste. But this book puts them together beautifully and imaginatively. I had trouble deciding which one to tackle first as there are so many I love. Great instructions as well.
- Crazy Modern Quilts offers over twenty easy pieced projects to compliment any decor with sizes ranging from wall and lap quilts to table runners and placemats and directions using easy straight-line piecing. Sidebars of materials and easy directions on piecing and construction make for an easy presentation perfect for any general needlework library.
- It's not always easy to find quilt patterns suitable for contemporary décor or men's offices but this book fills that bill. Lots of crisp, geometric patterns made from simple squares and rectangles have great visual impact. The 23 projects include wall and lap quilts, table runners, and place mats.

5 comments about All-In-One Quilter's Reference Tool Easy-To-Follow Charts, Tables and Illustrations, Yardage Requirements, Cutting Instructions, Setting Secrets, Choosing ... Piecing Techniques, Number Conversions.
- Questions about borders, how much fabric to buy, what to do about piecing?? Well, it's all here in this little guide. The measurements and yardage requirements sections were the best for me. We had used this book in my Quilting Class and I HAD to buy it! If you are experienced or beginning or somewhere inbetween, this reference book is sure to be a great part of your quilter's library.
- All the reference you need to supplement the making of ANY quilt. Take it to every class to solidify concepts that you are learning. Harriett Hargrave is THE expert.
- I purchased two of these books, one for a friend's birthday who is just getting in to quilting, and one for myself. The books arrived quickly, and new as described and the cost was excellent (a local merchant wanted twice as much as I paid for these books). I would recommend this merchant any time.
- This is a terrific reference guide compiled by some of the best in the quilting world. Takes a lot of the guess work out of your projects.
The guide is packed with a wealth of information- and small enough to fit into your average sized purse.
A must have for both the novice and expericenced, quilter's library.
Highly recommended!
- Finally! A book that has the answers to all the tech / math questions of quilting!

5 comments about Scrap-Basket Surprises: 18 Quilts from 2-1/2 inch Strips (That Patchwork Place).
- Although each quilt is intended to be made with assorted 2 1/2" strips from either your stash or from a jelly roll or two, many would be equally beautiful as a 2- or 3-color quilt. I love the variety of colorways shown in the photos such as citrus, mocha, patriotic, pastels, earthtones, jeweltones, etc., and also the variety of fabric styles - from traditional to batiks. Their breadth demonstrates that each quilt would have a completely different look in a different combination of fabrics.
For those who are purchasing fabric yardage directly and not using jelly rolls or fabric scraps (especially for the background), it is helpful to know that 3 strips = 1/4 yd., 7 strips = 1/2 yd., 10 strips = 3/4 yd., and 14 strips = 1 yd.
Some of the patterns are perfect for beginners while others are better suited to more experienced quilters. The book is relatively complete in its instructions and would only be enhanced by offering other size quilts since all of them are between 48" and 72" - baby quilt to "throw" size.
- This is a fabulous book. The projects are wowser's and it uses 2.5 inch strips. I will keep this book as a permanent part of my quilting all time favorites.
- All those pieces of left over binding (if you make yours 2 ½ inches like I do) are just floating around waiting for this book. Each quilt is made from 2 ½" strips. Of course, if you are a new quilter and don't have the "left-overs", you can always buy a jelly roll or cut your own 2 ½" pieces from yardage.
18 quilts will give you lots of choices to make. But before the instructions, there are 14 pages of general information to get you started on the right track. Each project shows a color photo of the finished quilt complete with finished block and quilt size. Material and cutting lists show you what you need to have material-wise plus what size to cut it into.
Block assembly has plenty of graphics to make sure you are on the right track and there is another graphic showing how to assemble the quilt. Quilt as desired is the only given instruction for quilting.
The block types are varied and are very straight forward to sew. No curves here. Grab a copy and start using up all those lonely scraps.
- An awesome book I saw at a quilting expo and I saved money by buying it through Amazon. Received this promptly from seller
- I love scrap quilts and although I bought the book for a class I will be taking this summer, there are many I am anxious to make.

5 comments about Liberated Quiltmaking II.
- This book is such fun! Perfect for a traditional quilter trying to break out of the box or non-traditional, art quilters looking for different methods. Started a new project the day I got it!
- An inspiring book, you can work with it easily and give your own interpretation to the models. Nice illustrations too! I specially like the colorfull ideas and indeed liberated style.
- Too many irons in the fire and not enough time to play with ideas in this book. LOVED the book - I will use the techniques shared in this book.
- I was disappointed by this book because many of the quilts were featured in other books that I already own. Sorry Gwen, but compared to Liberated Quiltmaking (I) the book is mediocre.
- I couldn't wait to get this book because Gwen Marsten's original Liberated Quiltmaking is my all-time favourite quilting book and the most inspiring. Many of the seminal pieces from that book are reprinted in Liberated Quiltmaking II. From my perspective, few new ideas are offered in II. If you missed your chance to own a copy of the original book grab this one; but if you already own the first, only buy this if you're a collector.
