1 comments about Advertising Playing Cards.
- Everett Grist supplies an excellent starting point for collectors interested in advertising playing cards. Playing cards appeal to collectors because of the artwork (on the backs and faces), the historical significance, the advertising, and of course the relative affordability and availability.
This book covers primarily U.S. cards, by which Grist probably means U.S. card makers as there are at least a couple of non-U.S. advertisers represented. The card backs take center stage, with no supporting text or images of faces cards or unusual pips or suits, such as noted in Gene Hochman's Encyclopedia of American Playing Cards. The backs, however, are reproduced as full color plates. Cards are arranged alphabetically by advertising category (airlines, banks, food, hotels, etc.), then alphabetically by advertiser.
The price guide should be used as a guide for pricing similar decks in mint condition in the original box with jokers and other inserts (calendars or bridge instructions) intact

3 comments about Miller's: Postcards: A Collector's Guide (Miller's Collector's Guides).
- This short book does a fair job of picturing the breadth of post cards: from an Austrian 1897 card to a 1990's Barbie card. There are many categories introduced, with some great pictures, but I would have appreciated more information, such as how to buy cards on EBay, or how to send cards. The "Where to buy" section has no dealers in the United States. The US post card history is sparse, particularly in dating cards; for example it doesn't include dates for divided backs (1907). Some basic definitions such as "linen" aren't presented.
- I personally found this book sketchy and superficial.Unless you are for example a general dealer who just wanted a few basic guidelines about a subject you previously knew nothing about then please avoid like the plague...
- For someone considering getting into postcard collecting and hasn't decided on a specialty yet, this guide is a great overview
of what postcard collecting is all about. The guide also has limited information on postcard values. These days you can find out most of this information on the web. Certainly the experienced collector will need to look elsewhere.

1 comments about Children's Bookmarks in Full Color: 30 Different Markers Perforated for Easy Detaching (Children's Bookmarks in Full Color).
- Although these bookmarks depict scenes significant to childhood, I do not think their presentation is very kid friendly. The colors are not bright or cheerful, and the pictures have an old fashioned quality to them. These bookmarks are definitely more appropriate for an adult audience. Nonetheless, a booklet of 30 is certainly a bargain for the price. In addition, the format of the book makes for easy use of the bookmarks thanks to the perforated pop out edges.

1 comments about Propaganda Postcards of World War II.
- This new (year 2000) 160 page book has more than 100 full color and 100 black and white, sharp, clear photos covering propaganda postcards from 20 countries. There's plenty of text explaining the many cards, which are grouped by: U.S., The Allies, The Axis Nations, and Neutral Nations. Valuies and a nice bibliography are provided. It offers a chronicle of the trying war years and gives a good insight into the history and actions of the times. The reader is given a provocative glimpse into the emotional climate of the people affected by the war, whether they were on the battlefield or on the production line. A great insight into the history of the times. A wonderful, fascinating addition to your library.

2 comments about Collecting Printed Ephemera.
- I just purchased this book and it is what I was looking for. Service from Elagebooks was great- received it within 4 days. The book was in excellent condition. Hats off and may cheers to Elagebooks.
- This is a fabulous book! For those of us who revel in collecting ephemera (printed paper of all sorts), this book provides a feast of information and visual overviews. The author covers the following subjects (among others): collecting ephemera; sources and values; conservation and display; the various printing processes; various categories (such as tradecards, letterheads, handbills, poster stamps, playing card stationery, book labels, valentines, and rewards of merit); a variety of themes (such as travel, funeralia, crime and punishment, rural life, cigar packaging, education, and entertainment); and includes a wonderful glossary, reference of papers and watermarks, and a good bibliography.
All in all a must-have for the serious collector of ephemera (you know who you are!), and well worth the price to special order. Don't hestitate, buy it!
