- The book is a lovely companion to my Maxfield Parrish print. The color plates are very close to the actual art work.
- A definite must if you want to be inspired

2 comments about Courbet and the Modern Landscape (Getty Trust Publications: J. Paul Getty Museum).
- This is an absolutely lovely book that makes for great reading and seeing. This exhibit at the Getty was one of the most inspiring I've ever seen, and I really think that the book does it justice, especially with very interesting close-ups that really let you feel the brushwork and energy that vibrates through Courbet's work. Love love love.
- I have not received the book so it is impossible to review it. Mary Mathews

4 comments about Time's River: The Voyage of Life in Art and Poetry.
- I remain dubious about books that have a coffee-table look, but the poetry selections in this one are excellent (if generally fairly well known) and concordant with the illustrations. The pairing of these paintings with these poems is truly inspired at times. The idea sounds hokey: the production is not. This anthology is a winner for it poetry alone. The sequals have not been as good, but this is one to read.
- This is one of the most beautiful poetry anthologies I have ever read. After I finished reading through it the first time, I read it twice more during the same weekend. The poetry is at turns passionate and serene, and the art works are an added bonus to a beautiful and worthwhile book which leaves you feeling as though the world will, no matter the latest fear or disaster, continue on a path as carefully laid as the stars are placed in the heavens. I highly recommend this anthology.
- I truly enjoyed reading this anthology. I own numerous collections of poetry but have never found one that combines poems of such passion with such beautiful art (art that in fact echances the poems). I hope that Kate Farrell will continue to put together such collections of verse as this one. This book containes a number of poems that I remembered reading a long time ago, wanted to read again, but could never find. I am glad that some of my searching has ended. This is a tremendous and admirable achievement. I highly recommend it.
- As a writer, I was given this book as a gift by my best friend. It is like no other poetry or art anthology I have seen. The colors, thoughts, images, and ideas combine to form a breathtaking view of life and all its idiosyncrasies. Wisdom shines through the pages. I highly recommend it.

3 comments about Splash 2: Watercolor Breakthroughs (Splash).
- It is very instructive and also inspiring to see what different artists believe is a breakthrough for them. Why is the painting so important to the artist, and what can you learn about it?
Apart from that the Splash book is very browse friendly, it is a book to have as eye candy on the coffee table.
- This was one of the first book I baught that related to Watercolors. It encouraged me to start an art book library. I could have never believed before that it was possible to find an established artist who would share the secrets of his sucess with others... I got astonished when I noticed that: there was not only one; but 90 of the most important contemporary watercolor artists, explaining through a compilation of 150 beautiful artworks how they created these masterpieces throughout their artistic experience and got to be who they are .
Excellent choice of paintings, excellent texts, excellent printing quality. Very inspiring and educational... A must buy for the beginning artist as well as for the experienced , not to forget the art collector who believes that watercolor is a "serious" medium and not one for steches only.
- This book is not just for the watercolor enthusiast, as it focuses on "breakthroughs"...something any artist can appreciate. Watercolor is only one of the mediums that I use, but I go through this book over and over, always finding something refreshing that helps in whatever work I'm doing. It's great that some of the breakthroughs mentioned are not limited to the technique alone, revealing the "true" nature of being a working artist. The Splash series of books are often the ones I choose to keep in my reference library.

5 comments about Living Colors: A Designers Guide to 80 Essential Palettes from Ancient to Modern Times.
- This book is an incredible reference for color theory and history. The inclusion of full panels of color reference make it one of the most useful books on the subject I've ever found.
- I am in fashion design and have found the color palettes very useful in designing collections. Also, the text is informative without being boring.
- I'm a graphic designer and this is a great book to look for color palettes. It explains what period the palette is from and gives you cultural information from that period. The palettes are different and beautiful. Margaret Walsh is a highly respected woman for her color knowledge.
- The dual spiral constuction of this book makes any it practically impossible to read through the text while keeping the color swatches in view. I find the book to be shabbily put together - the spiral separated from the binding after one gentle use, so I was glad to have picked it up at a bargain book outlet.
There is some useful information in there, but getting it all together is not simple.
- This is an excellent book if you want to compare and analyze the basic color palettes used by various art movements and at different times in history. The unique double spiral bound book allows you to look at color illustrations and flip the palettes independently so you to compare and contrast palettes and artwork. I think this would be useful for artists and designers of all sorts including theatre designers.
