- This book was marvelous. The information contained within was well researched and very thorough. I immensely enjoyed every page, every article, every entry well, you get the picture. It was just what I was hoping for and very good.
- Evidenced by twenty years of research, Alabama Folk Pottery introduces the reader to the pottery of the state. Joey Brackner's production of a well organized and beautifully presented piece of scholarship helps the reader to see and understand the potters, the craft and its history. Due to his thorough researcch and effective presentation, this book is well worth the price tag.

4 comments about Christian Boltanski.
- I saw his exhibit in Paris a few years ago and I was intrigued about this artist. This book will give more explanation on his work and why he does it. Some of the writing can be too academic and hard to understand. There's an interview with Boltanski which I loved. He's very opinionated and an interesting artist. There's not much info on him on the internet so I'm really glad that was made.
- I have extensively researched Christian Boltanski and would highly recommend this wonderful book. It reads like an exhibition. Five stars *****
- A good book on an excellent artist. Why, then, only 8 / 10 ? Because the authors/contributors do not deal in-deep with certain AMBIGUITIES in Boltanski's life and art. Everybody always focusses on the quote >official< unquote biography and bibliography of Boltanski (e.g. in Lessons of Darkness). But CB himself is constantly re-arranging and reconstituting these 'facts'. Critics and curators, though, always seem to take the information for granted.
I think that CB plays a game with us, and that (t)his game is a very important part of his oeuvre. As such it should be properly documented and studied. Han Geers
- This is one of the best monographs I've read. Often I get books an an aritst I like, and can't get through the awful text, I end up just looking at the pictures. The text in this book adds so much to my understanding of the work, by detailing the progression of his ideas through the years, and clearly describing the installations. The writing is very clear, I found myself reading it as if it were a novel.

5 comments about The Ceramic Glaze Handbook: Materials, Techniques, Formulas.
- The BEST book a beginner can get on glazing. Explains alot of the chemicals used in glazes and breaks it down for you (what they do etc). I would get this book before you get other glaze books.
- Very informative for beginner even. Well explained and pleasant to read. Like it very much.
- When I ordered the book, there was no reader's reviews. All three reviews appeared the next day after I ordered the book. I would not have purchased it if I had read those reviews. However, when the book arrived, I checked it against the corrections [website] and found that all but one error have been corrected (foot note for middle picture on page 118). There is no indication that the book in my hands is a second printing.
This book is well illustrated and extremely well organized for easy comprehension. The pictures of the test tiles for major colorants laid out in a modified 2 x Y factorial design is extremely informative. The format of having one illustration by each formula is the most inspiring and useful way of presenting the formulae. Get this book and Hopper's the Ceramic Spectrum if you want to start formulating your own glazes.
- Our ceramics instructor and I (perennial student) found this book in a local library and our class loves it. We participate in a potter's guild situation, not an academic fine arts class, so the clear explanations in this book by Burleson help cut through the haze of what glazes are made of, how to take care of them, and how to experiment with them. We can't wait to get started.
- This is a decent book, but...there are a number of errors in it. Be sure and get the corrections from the publisher at:
http://mercury.larkbooks.com/glaze/correct.pdf http://mercury.larkbooks.com/glaze/index.pdf Other than that, it is a good book on glaze materials, mixing, and application. Includes a variety of recipies for use at various cone temps. Updated info...the second printing has corrected the errors that I mentioned above.

- Eastern Erotica: Chinese, Indian, and Japanese Eroticism in Art and Literature [BARGAIN PRICE] (Paperback) is valuable and important source for my artistic work and knowledge of Oriental culture.
- This small, oblong work is interesting, but many of the color reproductions are also used in Bret Norton's other books - the color reproductions are just OK considering the inexpensive nature of the book. I think that there are better books on the subject matter - i would not have purchased this book had i seen it in person beforehand.

3 comments about Napco (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
-
This is the best book you can find on the subject of NAPCOS. It is not 100% complete, since so many thousand NAPCOS were issued since the mid 1900's; however, this book will give the collector a very nice basis on the subject.
Excellent photos. Printed on nice paper!
- This is a fantastic book for the Napco collector. It offers beautiful pictures of some of the best figurines ever made. If you're a fan of Napco, this book is a must have!
- This is by far the best book on Napco figurines and has MANY of the hard to find items fully photographed. I have been looking for a book to help me on my Storybook collectables for years and this one is a dream come true! Also has birthday angels and many, many more! So much information all photographed and in beautiful full color! Kathleen Deel knows her Napco collectables and now I will too! I highly recommend this book!

2 comments about The World of Wade Figurines And Miniatures (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- I'm not a Wade collector but needed to research a 1950's figurine given to me by my aunt. I couldn't find anything like it on eBay, so I ordered this book. Within minutes of opening it I had found my piece and enough information about it to list it successfully for sale. As with any reference book on antiques and collectibles, the values must be treated with skepticism since prices change with shifts in collectors' interests. But for basic background information, including illustrations and dating of backstamps, it is excellent.
- I love the Wade Whimsey figurines, but I was flying blind until I got this book. I am now a much more informed collector. I highly recommend this book to any collector.

3 comments about Decorative Art 50s (Decorative Art).
- Taschen writes this is a sourcebook. It just shows where design comes from. What was done in that era. And this book does just that and does it good. No high-brow comment, just reproductions of pages of house-plans, chairs, sidetables, glass ceramics etc. So, if you want to know if your old chair has any historic relevance, look in this book and see if there is a design original, or you might own it! Emphasis on the US, England Scandivavia, Italy and the Netherlands.
- Once you get past the lovely cover, the interior of this book consists entirely of magazine pages from the 1950's reproduced wholesale. While that means authenticity, it also means small, uninspiring black and white photography. Like looking at an old magazine, not the beautiful graphics one usually expects from Taschen.
- An absolute must have for anyone with a love for the modernist design movement of the 50's and 60's, or if you're looking to stay consistent with a modernist theme while redecorating. It's so sleek and plastic and modular. I love it! And in the tradition of Taschen books, the price is well worth it!

1 comments about Janet Cardiff: The Walk Book.
- An amazingly engaging art book, almost a new form of writing in which the artist's work and her words and process diagrams are interlaced with adroitly framed essays on the background of her works, philosophical thoughts, discourses, side-journeys, mental experiments about the meaning of time and memory, explorations into listening and sound. Mirjam Schaub explains Cardiff's ephemeral walking pieces in a manner that is deeply sympathetic with her themes and the significance of Cardiff's voice. Each page rings with poetic truth and Schaub is selfless in presenting Cardiff's ouvre.
