1 comments about Feet-Ishism (Temptation).
- You may have noticed, as I have, that people seem reluctant to review fetish material on Amazon. Justifiably so. Well, this "Kid" has taken it upon himself to review some foot fetish books he's picked up on Amazon for the benefit of those considering ordering them.
This book is absolutely awful. Clocking in at about 50 pages, it is mostly pictures of details from paintings of the Victorian era, classical Japan and a few bizarre modern ones. Dopp includes a few paragraphs about the history of the concept of fetish, only about half of which pertains to foot fetish...and in this scant material he devotes most of that to a discussion of his opinion that the classical German author Goethe was a foot fetishist. My goodness, this is so interesting.
Beware of the PUBLISHER'S claim that the book is full of enjoyable illustrations. I found myself turning the pages angrily in hopes that there might actually be SOME erotic pictures of female feet. For some inexplicable reason, the author chose mostly pictures of women lying prone with a focus on their lower bodies, or of fully-clothed women in boots sitting on windowsills.
I should have expected no less from a German. Don't get me wrong, I am half German, but as fetishists they're known to delve into the bizarre and esoteric. This is by NO MEANS a book, in my opinion, that will interest any modern American foot fetishist, whether his/her interest lie in the erotic image of the bare foot or in the nature of the fetish itself.
More highly recommended is "Foot: A Playful Biography," which this "Kid" has also reviewed. Or just google "bare female feet" and you might be happier.

5 comments about Majolica (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- This book is filled with lovely pictures of Majolica. Unfortunately it is not filled with the kind of information that I was looking for as a collector. I would have liked to see pictures of the marks he describes. Also, I am very disappointed he did not discuss how to recognize new Majolica-like pieces and/or fakes.
- The 4th edition of MAJOLICA comes with a revised price guide and the same attention to color photos and detail as the originals - and it's a pocket-sized tote to boot, making it a perfect item of choice for any who journey in search of the glassware. The clear pictures make identification a snap, while the latest values lend to quick collection assessment.

- Clear, concise, lots of nice photos. Not incredibly detailed, but it isn't designed to be.
- If you're an advanced collector of Majolica this isn't the book for you. But, if you're intriqued by the flashy colors and what to know more about this wonderful pottery then this book is right up your alley!! It's small, it's easily carried, the price is right and the pictures a great! I highly recommend it for beginners!
- Well that wasn't much help! I just read the whole book in about twenty minutes, and that was taking my time! To be fair, I did learn quite a bit about majolica, but that's only because I knew nothing to begin with. This is a very simple book. It includes a few short "chapters" that give only a few paragraphs each on general concepts--marks, condition, paiting, care, etc. It's biggest selling point is that it includes more than one hundred pages with one or two good quality photos on each. The biggest problem with the book besides its brevity is the fact that it does not contain the price guide it advertises. The author gives the price for each piece pictured, and that's it. What's worse, as far as I can tell or figure out, the prices don't follow the criteria the author outlines for value. He'll list one piece for $100 and then another for $250 that (by his standards) is less valuable. Very frustrating.

- Very valuable reference book, but there a few blank spaces where there should be photos and the drawings are amateurish. Easily remedied in a future edition with the web resources now to hand.

2 comments about English Dry-Bodied Stoneware.
- Rodney Hampson has been a key source of information about the history of the Staffordshire pottery industry for authors and scholars, so it's nice to see him partnering with Diana Edwards on a subject that's been largely overlooked. The results are mostly positive. There is a bit too much emphasis on Wedgwood at the expense of the lesser-known manufacturers. Photography is only so-so. The lighting of engine-turned and press-molded items is too flat, making it difficult to see the detail that most fully describes the objects.. In general, a welcome addition to the literature of ceramics and another worthwhile effort from the Antique Collectors' Club.
- This is a valuable and worthy reference book for anyone who wants to know more about Wedgwood and the contemporary manufacturers of the period. The color plates and black and white pictures provide assistance in identifying all types of dry-bodied english stoneware. During the period there were numerous manufacturers duplicating the same type of designs. This book provides a wonderful guide for collectors and antique dealers.
