5 comments about Altered Curiosities: Assemblage Techniques and Projects.
- I am a working artist and am currently exploring collage and assemblage as an alternate form of expression. I bought this book based on the cover. I found the doll's head intriguing and hoped to find other projects in that same vein. While the book includes detailed instructions for a variety of assemblage projects, I found it bordered on being a "craft" book. Many of the projects include instructions for metal work, which I am not interested in. The author also has several projects that are shrine-like in character. And sadly, there were no other "doll" projects, except if you count using doll arms to make jewelry. I ended up giving this book to a friend of mine who teaches assemblage at art school.
- I bought this book along with another book on collage assemblage. I read the other book first and found this one not as interesting a read but it does have some good assemblage details that the other book did not have.
- This book is inspiration and instructive for all of you collage and assemblage artists. I keep passing it on to friends who are tweeking old creative styles in a new way.
- Don't let the sorta creepy cover fool you, this book will be a STAPLE in your creative library! As a mixed media collage artist, I was tickled to find so many new ideas all in one place! It is filled with so many techniques you will want to try out. Enough to keep you busy for months and months of happy tinkering and molding and painting and more! The pictures and descriptions are really clear as well so there is no confusion. Totally inspiring!
- Gorgeous book and photos of collected objects, and many helpful suggestions for doing more of the same myself.

5 comments about The Complete Guide to High-Fire Glazes: Glazing & Firing at Cone 10 (A Lark Ceramics Book).
- I found that this book it is very useful and cohomprensive in parts of firing and recipes. There are beutiful pictures; but i find it is not so fluing in the exposition it could be more astonoshing with all the new about the recipes.
If are a novice I think you could also buy another books to introduce you better in the world of making your own glazes more satifing( it is the The Ceramic Spectrum: A Simplified Approach to Glaze and Color DevelopmentHopper book on glazes spectrumThe Ceramic Spectrum: A Simplified Approach to Glaze and Color Development).
- Very happy with this purchase. The recipes are all laid out and organized very well. Easy to find what you're looking for and lots of good pictures.
- The Complete Guide to High-Fire Glazes: Glazing & Firing at Cone 10 (A Lark Ceramics Book) (Purchased on 01/02/2008)
The book has tons of information very useful for a beginner potter and or a professional. Simple to use and has a variety of exercises to follow. Explains very well and has lots of images that makes it easy to comprehend, a must have as a text book.
- This is a brilliant book with great technical information and fabulous pictures. Most importantly for me though is getting good glaze recipes that have materials that are easily found or can be adapted to what I have. I have trialled many recipes in this book and have found good success. John Britt writes well and gives good firing information. Also most helpful is where he shows the same glaze used on different types of clay, this is a critical factor in the success of any glaze so a most important point that needs to be shown.
If you are wanting to learn about glazing, then this book is a must for you. If you follow through each section and test as many of the glazes as possible, and follow the different firing methods, you will at the end have a comprehensive understanding of glazes and firing.
- This is an excellent book. I keep it at my bedside and refer to it frequently. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for high fire recipes and information about glaze formulation.

5 comments about The Figure in Clay: Contemporary Sculpting Techniques by Master Artists (A Lark Ceramics Book).
- I am fairly new to building in clay, and I found this book a treasure trove of ideas and techniques by masters of the art. The book is beautifully illustrated, and each of the artists describes their personal vision with regards to their work and then gives a detailed description of the process and techniques used in creating a piece along with formulas for their clay bodies, glazes and firing techniques. I found this book very helpful and inspiring.
- I've been wanting to get into ceramics for a while and this book was just the thing to get my creative juices flowing. It has many (500 actually) beautiful pieces to admire, with such a wide selection of styles. I love that it has a both beautiful and grotesque figures revealing so many artistic view points. It's definitely not a "how to" book, with just enough info to get a basic idea of how each piece was created but the beautiful photographs and wide variety of sculptures makes it well worth purchasing.
- A rich and exciting collection of wonderful artists and a never ending wealth of inspiration. My favorite book of contemporary ceramic art
- I have always wanted to do large scale figurative sculpture. There are not many books specifically on this subject. I found this book and said, "Yes, this has exactly what I want to know". I find it a wonderful resource. Vicki Stone-artist
- Beatiful pages. It seems easy sculpting. It is not. If you can do it, this book does not really help you, but if you don't, you really feel sorry that you can't. It's good anyway to see how some artists work.

5 comments about Collage Discovery Workshop: Make Your Own Collage Creations Using Vintage Photos, Found Objects and Ephemera.
- I am in a collage class at school and found this book a perfect supplement for all my collage projects. There is a variety of tricks- everything from different techniques for backgrounds and ways to transfer images to your collage. Plus the book itself is beautifully done. Nothing makes my heart twitter more than a fantastic collage...
- . . . . there was paper and glue. This book is a "must" buy for the beginning artist who has decided to explore the world of collage. It has very simple explanations of incredible techniques that you can learn quickly and use over and over. You will find your favorites, but don't be afraid to try all of them.
I also recommend this for "young" budding artists.
- I just so love this book. It gets straight to the point, It is incredibly detailed plus for beginners like myself who are new to collage it makes perfect sense.
- Book was in great conditon, but I purchased the book for a project and by the time it came... we were done with the project.
- Without a question Claudine gives great advice and instruction in this book. Lots of ideas for scrapbooking, collage and just crafty folks. I would definitely recommend her other book "Beyond the Unexpected" as well. She also has DVDs that are awesome for those of us who learn by watching. She's a hoot!

5 comments about The Complete Potter's Companion.
- I have ordered from Amazon.com several times now and each time the item has been shipped right away and in good shape. This last purchase-The Complete Potter's Companion arrived quickly (it was a college class book) and it great shape. The decription stated it was used in excellent condidtion. It most defintely was. In fact if it didn't say used, I would never have guessed. Good job
- Very informative with great step-by-step photos also. This book is really good at showing a wide variety of techniques and including historical information that is really interesting.
- This book is a nice addition to any beginner potter's library. It is not in depth but offers a wide variety in information that is useful and helpful. It is most definatly in my 'top 10' of pottery books.
- I'm new to pottery and found this book to be informative. I also found many creative ideas that sparked my own creativity.
- This is a very pretty book, and it does cover a breadth of material, but it's very shallow. An entire book could be devoted to each chapter. It provides a good overview of what can be done with clay, but in the end, I have to turn to other books to get more than a cursory understanding of individual processes.

5 comments about Digital Art Studio: Techniques for Combining Inkjet Printing with Traditional Art Materials.
- This is a classic, and a must-have in the list of mixed media books. If you're a professional artist who is looking to stretch and try new techniques then you'll enjoy Digital Art Studio.
- This is a wonderful book... written by artists and for artists using digital photography, image manipulation [IE; pshop] and digital printing to create artworks. Every stage of the process is explored... and tips and tricks are freely given.
So refreshing to see artists encouraged to grab these tools and run with them. Over and above the multitudes of print-techs with flash machines selling "giclee" prints.
Congratulations! Artists in the digital age... buy this book!
- This is a superb book for any photographer who likes to experiment and explore various print making techniques. The artwork in the book is phenomenal and the instructions are detailed and easy to follow. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants push the creative boundaries.
- I purchased the book Digital Art Studio approximately a year ago and couldn't wait to start reading it. I was familiar with the beautiful work of the authors, Karin Schminke, Dorothy Simson Krause and Bonny Pierce Lhotka (Digital Atelier), and had always wanted to know their "secrets" and how they produced such beautiful work. This book spells it out with descriptive copy and great illustrations.
As a thirty year veteran Advertising and fine art photographer, I have found that this book has taken my work to another level. I have created countless pieces using the techniques described in this book and have found it very easy to follow and understand.
I can highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn alternate art processes. It will light a fire under your creative spirit!Digital Art Studio: Techniques for Combining Inkjet Printing with Traditional Art Materials
- I constantly refer to this book for guidance in printing on varied surfaces. As a digital and mixed media artist, this book is invaluable. Although many of the techniques require a special printer, like the Epson 2400, there are still more than enough ideas for anyone owning a desktop printer and wanting to print on something other than digital photo paper. The instructions are clear and detailed. The pictures are inspirational. I have recommended this book to many people, who in turn have recommended it to others. I could not have produced my current body of work without the information provided in this book.
