1 comments about Tiles and Tilework.

  1. The title page title of this book is Tile and Tilework of Europe.

The particular strength of this book is that it shows chiefly installations of tiles, although it does include some pictures of individual tiles; almost all of the pictures are in color. As such, it covers tile scenes, in which the tiles are individually insignificant but are assembled into a portrait, landscape, etc. It also has wonderful pictures of the assemblage of a selection of repeating tiles, or even one repeated tile alone. The swirling marvel of the tiled staircase at the Falkenlust hunting lodge could not be imagined from the tiles alone. (Unfortunately, this is one of the few black and white photographs.) It makes a great complement to most of my other tile books, which focus chiefly on individual tiles.

The book focuses on Western Europe, including Austria and Germany, beginning in the Middle Ages; I believe 12th century is about the oldest. It also contains Islamic tile work at the Alhambra, and as an influence on the European work.

It is a an excellent collection for readers like me who love the tiles but don't have the resources to be assembling a huge library of specialized books, although I'm sure it would also be a great addition to a large collection on tile.

2 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia of Wall Pockets: Identification and Values.

  1. I collect Wall Pockets and I totally disagree with the previous reviewer. I have never seen a book on Wall Pockets before, but I have looked through hundred of reference books on every conceivable collectible. In this book there are hundreds of Wall Pockets all photographed in color. The book is well organized and shows an absolutely mind-boggling array of Wall Pockets! As far as values are concerned, it's obvious most Wall Pockets are not worth a lot of money! The valuations separate the very valuable from the above average. Remember - condition and where you live have a lot to do with value. I bought a magnificent Wall Pocket of an African Women for $5.00 at auction. I t was from the 1940's or 1950's in amazing condition. Does that make it worth only $5.00 because that's all paid for it? Of course not! Valuations are subjective to a great degree, we are not talking gold coins here.

If you want a solid, well photographed and organized book on Wall Pockets, then I highly recommend this book!

  2. The Newbounds have arranged the wall pockets in this encyclopedia in such a way, that it is very, very difficult to find that "one particular wall pocket". They have arranged the items in groupings by 'country of manufacture' which makes it nearly impossible to find if the wall pocket is not marked. The photography is supburbly done and the colors are vivid and beautiful, but it does not make the 'search' any easier. Also, I have found that the Newbounds are consistently underpricing the wall pockets in this book, as compared to other 'experts' in the same areas. If this is an example of the way they present the items in each of their other books, then I will not be a repeat costomer. If you have the opportunity to read the "introduction" contained in this book, that alone will give the reader a good idea of just how very convoluted the contents therein really are.

1 comments about Rich Larson's Haunted House of Lingerie Volume 2.

  1. To simply be blunt this so-called novel is just porn on paper for any thirteen year old boy who happens to his hands on it. This should be a good topic for disscusion at the author's next the therapy session.
