3 comments about Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain: 1710 To the Present.

  1. I bought this after buying several neat pieces of porcelain on Ebay and becoming curious about the history of the maker's marks on them. I was surprised that the book is in two languages, English and German (each page has both English and German text). It took me a little fumbling to get onto the organization, but once I did, it was wonderful in identifying everything I looked up. There are no pictures, just accurate line drawings of the maker's marks. Each is clearly identified by manufacturer and date. It allows you to look up marks by type, for instance "crown" or "anchor" or "anchor with words". One part of the book further gives a very brief summary of the type of wares each company produced (organized by country). It has more marks than any other reference book I have ever looked at, it is probably the only one you need for European porcelain. It also lists present day marks from currently producing companies.

  2. Finally a book that goes further then showing some pictures...there ain't ! So all the place left is pure 100% usefull and revealing information. Not only useful for antique but also for younger, almost actual, porcelain. Indispensible for identification of the manufacturer and the age of a piece of German, Bohemian or Austrian porcelain. The information is seperately ordered by marks, by manufacturers or by names ! I don't know how I should go on without it...

2 comments about Fabric Mosaics.

  1. My new interest in mosaic attracted me to this book because I also sew. The lovely designs include mostly floral, fruit, and animal motifs. The patterns provided in the book are traced, then used to cut out your fabric pieces. Each design is formed of many pieces as if they are broken mosaic tiles, and put together like a puzzle. Dark lines of stitching separate each piece giving the design its mosaic appearance. The authors use bright jewel-like colors of fabric which give the designs more of a stained-glass window look. If printed or calico fabrics are used, the design takes on a more country quilt look. All the designs can be adapted to a variety of projects, such as pillows, wall hangings, or framed artwork. Fun projects for fabric crafters.

  2. I liked this book a lot. To complete the projects in this book, you first have to cut the background quilt, then the applique pieces. I cheated and used iron-on fusible web. Then, in the book, you finish the project following the simple instructions included. I went one step further and stitched around all my pieces using different stitches and it came out beautiful. (I made the "Nesting Pair Pillow")

The only thing I needed help with was finishing the pillow (I'm only a teen). But with my Mom's help, I finished it.

Overall, the projects are simple to applique, but kids may need help sewing it. Very cute projects in this book!

Some of the projects included, with full instructions: Sunflower Coaster, Teacup Coaster, Framed Blue Vase, Framed Summer Boquet, Monogram Heart Pillow, Hearts & Flowers Sampler, Sheep Wall Hanging, Beehive Wallhanging, Spotted Cow Wall Hanging, Butterfly, FLoral, & Cat Gift Bags, Framed Sunshine,

Table Runner, Woodland Squirrel Pillow, Garden Rabbit Pillow, Nesting Pair Pillow, and much more! (26 projects in all)

2 comments about Collector's Guide to Camark Pottery: Identification & Values (Collector's Encyclopedia).

  1. I was very disappointed in the book. The author goes on and on about the History of Camark, but very little information about the various glazes used. Sorry I bought it.

  2. Mr. Gifford writes an interesting & comprehensive history of Camark (I live in Arkansas, where Camark was produced). The book features many colorful pages with fair pricing of the items. I learned quite a bit from this book. I'm a new collector & found this book to be quite helpful to me. I have already recognized a piece of Camark I bought for $10 to be worth about $60! That's worth the price of the book!

  1. This book features Rosemeade Pottery, which was made in Wahpeton, North Dakota, between 1940 and 1961. The text is interesting and informative, and the book includes a large number of beautiful photos of the many different types of pottery produced by Rosemeade. The book is well-organized and easy to use, This is a superb reference book for Rosemeade pottery collectors and everyone interested in American pottery.
