5 comments about Blue Ridge China Today.

  1. I found this very useful. I have seven different Blue Ridge Pottery books that I used to identify over 1000 pieces I owned. Now I have dispursed my collection and have no use for my books so I will sell them.

  2. This book is a wonderful follow-up to their first book! The pictures are clear; as are the names, descriptions and prices. What more could you ask for to assist you in making knowledgeable decisions about Blue Ridge Pottery? We have used this book and their previous book to help us price new pieces for our collection and have found them both to be invaluable! This book is especially good at showing some of the harder-to-find Blue Ridge pieces! Another "must-have" for any serious collector!

  3. This book has been extremely helpful to me. I couldnt find half of the patterns in the other Blue Ridge book written by Betty and Bill Newbound. I buy and sell Blue Ridge so I am constantly looking for the names of patterns. Frances and John Ruffin are WONDERFUL people. When I cant find a pattern in their book, I email them with a picture and they tell me the pattern name. It cant get better than that! :))

  4. I have every book published on the subject of Blue Ridge china & Southern Potteries. This is the one that my friends and I use on a daily basis, rarely looking at the others. This book is the first one that we pick up and the one we find the easiest to use and the most beneficial. The authors show hundreds of samples of Blue Ridge in an organized fashion that offers assistance with pattern names, shapes and pricing. The authors obviously used their own collection as well as photos from the collections of others. They have shown Blue Ridge as it is found today (many times with defects). It is a tremendous help to me and I could not do without it! I highly recommend that anyone interested in Blue Ridge dinnerware or china pieces purchase this book. You will not be sorry.

  5. You would have thought that these authors with the resources at their disposal (collections they visited and chances to take picures of real good pieces)would not have used so many bad pictures. Teapots, candy boxes etc. with mismatched lids. Pattern names placed with wrong plates etc. Would not recommend this book!!!!!

1 comments about Decorative Art 1960's (Taschen Specials).

  1. This book offers a glimpse into the design world of the 1960s like no other. Many vintage photos showing furniture in authentic room settings. Each section, Glass, Ceramics, Lighting, Textiles and Furniture, show the reader objects that are rarely seen anywhere else.

On the negative side, there is little detailed text on the specific objects beyond each photo's caption. The fact that many of the photographs are vintage allows for many grainy images.

That said, what this book is lacking as a text based reference guide, it more than makes up for in the shear volume of decorative items pictured.

2 comments about Erotic Art.

  1. This book has a decent collection of erotic artwork. What I would consider as art would be "expression". Unfortunately there are a couple of examples which I think would not qualify as art but as porn. For example, a photo of nothing except showing the unification of the male and female organs----that does not express anything.

This book does not show erotic art of various cultures; it shows only examples from the West. So if you are looking for oriental, Japanese or Indian, etc. examples of erotic art, you won't find it here.

On the whole, this book is reasonably good in its choice of examples and the images are clear. I would give this book a "B" grade.

...I would like to point out that any good erotic art book is NEVER meant for children.

  2. I bought this book because I thought it would be an interesting read on an art topic that gets little honest coverage. It contains a ton of erotic pieces of art. Many of these works are beautiful and very well done, but there are several that border on straight up pornography. This book is definitely not appropriate for young children to look at. B+

3 comments about Extruded Ceramics: Techniques * Projects * Inspirations(A Lark Ceramics Book).

  1. This is a wonderful book for anyone who wants to learn more about extruded ceramics. I think the author should put up a picture of the cover as soon as possible.

The best thing about this book is that it's project-oriented, and the projects are things you would really want to make. I was truly inspired by this book and appreciated the author's attention to detail. The photos are gorgeous.

  2. This book has MANY color photographs of a wide variety of different types of extruded ceramic works. It gives an excellent overview of things done mostly in recent years, and offers inspiration and direction to ceramic artists who owns extruders and those who are thinking of buying one. There are also several projects described and shown in the book step by step. The author has focused on showing the wide range of works that can be created using an extruder, including showing the die shapes used.

  3. It is about time that extruders get recognized for their unique contribution to the ceramic community. This is by far one of the most under utilized and under appreciated tools. There is so much that can be created by an extruder and I am very glad that there is now a book to help extruder owners get the most out of their investment. This book has some really great tips on making your own dies and extrusion projects. A must buy if you own or want to own an extruder. I have a Scott Creek 4" with an expansion box and I love it!
