4 comments about Beyond the Basics: Mosaics (Beyond the Basics (Sterling Publishing)).
- Nice book for those of us who love to do mosaics. Sometimes I need just a little more help being creative. The projects are ones that you have been looking for the instructions for. The book has great photographs and lots of ideas on where to get your treasures to mosaic. I really look for classy things and different things to embelish with mosaics and this book gets to the meat of what you need to accomplish your project. Sometimes I have the ideas but I'm not quite sure what it will really look like before I start. This book gets you ready to enjoy the projects that you make. It also helps you to personalize that project you created to be a fine gift your friends and family will treasure.
- This book is very inspirational for those who have already done mosaics. It focuses more on the use of plates and seashells rather than stained glass and mosaic tiles. I really appreciated the author's informative text and pictures. I have read many of the mosaics books Amazon offers, and I keep coming back to this one for inspiration.
Half of the book is dedicated to generous use of seashells, so those of us in land-locked states may not be able to play along.
- Beyond The Basics Mosaics presents more than 30 eye-catching mosaic projects best suited for intermediate-level crafters, but also accessible to beginners. From picassiete (break up old china and create motifs to add beauty to tables, walls, kitchen counters and more) to shard art (a free-form style that can incorporate almost anything into images) to shellwork (a distinct skill that can add splendor to box lids, picture frames and more), Beyond The Basics Mosaics describes techniques with explicit instructions, full-color photographs, tips on coloration, design and array, and much more. An excellent resource for crafting beautiful and memorable treasures, whether to decorate one's home or present as gifts.
- I love this book! It contains many gorgeous pique assiette (recycled broken china) projects, as well as some using seashells. Best of all, the projects are beautiful but not overwhelming (i.e., a beginner should be able to master them), and they shouldn't take anywhere near as much time or money as most projects would, yet you'd be proud to give or display them.

2 comments about Jewish Art Masterpieces.
- This book was a gift for an artist. He greatly enjoyed the book and found it helpful in his own work.
- As one who has visited the Judaica collections of the Israeli Museum many times I can attest that this volume is a faithful reflection of many of the finest works there. This is a wonderful volume for all who take interest in Judaica. I would however question the word 'masterpiece' in the title of the work. Many of the fine pieces of craftsmanship shown may receive highest praise as what they are- but this does not mean that they are artistic masterpieces.

5 comments about Digital Beauties: 2D & 3D Computer Generated Digital Models, Virtual Idols and Characters.
- The thing that occurred to me while perusing the digital beauties in this book was that 90% of the "artists" paid to be included. With the exception of 3 or 4 of them, they don't even measure up to talented amateurs. There is one guy that is embarassingly bad. I won't mention names.
If you want the cream of this crop, screen capture the book cover and let the rest go. Don't waste your money... I'm sorry I had to give it a star at all.
- A book of digitaly created female pictures and the artists who created them.
- I purchased the book hoping to use it as a reference for my freelance pursuits in 3D human modeling and texturing. Some of the artwork offers stunningly realistic renders, and others close-up insights on modeling techniques. Examples are those by Robichaud, Dean, Koch, Stahlberg, and several Japanese artists.
However, I was disappointed to find that most works were created by the consumer-level Poser software, for which pre-made 3D models are readily available and simply need to be "posed"; there is no original creation of 3D models on the artist's part. Moreover, the Poser works in Digital Beauties rudely show the mediocre rendering capabilities of the software - the models are often defined by jagged edges. In short, the best works in the book are those with original modeling and attention to detail, not those primarily intended provide erotic gratification for the viewer. The book itself was well-conceived and attractively designed. It could be condensed and even more appealing by excluding the less-than-professional artwork.
- Top artists of the globe bring you the best in 3d female character creation. A must-have!
- If you are interested in the cutting edge of computer graphics this book is for you. It is full of images created using computer graphic programs. There are so many wonderful images to look at and study for the technique...a wonderful collection of digital art from around the world....
