3 comments about Napco (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
-
This is the best book you can find on the subject of NAPCOS. It is not 100% complete, since so many thousand NAPCOS were issued since the mid 1900's; however, this book will give the collector a very nice basis on the subject.
Excellent photos. Printed on nice paper!
- This is a fantastic book for the Napco collector. It offers beautiful pictures of some of the best figurines ever made. If you're a fan of Napco, this book is a must have!
- This is by far the best book on Napco figurines and has MANY of the hard to find items fully photographed. I have been looking for a book to help me on my Storybook collectables for years and this one is a dream come true! Also has birthday angels and many, many more! So much information all photographed and in beautiful full color! Kathleen Deel knows her Napco collectables and now I will too! I highly recommend this book!

1 comments about The Art of Mitch Byrd Volume One.
- Mitch Byrd isn't the typical SQP Glamour/pin-up artist. If there's one guy who really seems to be out to create a unique niche for himself it's Byrd. Mitch got his start in comics working first for Malibu comics before working for DC on Guy Gardner: Warrior and Starman, for Marvel on Generation X, and later for a variety of other publishers on such characters as Shi, Predator, and Lady Death. Byrd has shown he has the talent to work in any genre from horror to fantasy, to sci-fi, to crime and superhero, and, it seems, basically anything under the sun.
This book represents an overall sampling of Mitch's art from all of these genres. The Byrd woman isn't the svelte, supermodel type you're probably used to seeing in most of the great books from SQP. Mitch's women are curvy, buxom, and full of attitude, fully looking as if they'd just be as happy to punch out your lights as have a drink with you. To me his work reminds me a bit of Richard Corben, slightly in style but more in attitude.
Check page 14 with a wonderful jungle drawing of a great ape striding through some ancient ruins as a large-hipped, and very nude woman looks on with a startled expression. The work conjures up the feel of those old 30's and 40's jungle action pulp magazines. Another pure Byrd piece is the one on page 35 that features a nude woman lying seductively as a comedic, squat, Hindu man can barely contain his glee as he strokes her legs.
The Byrd woman is fearless as evidenced by the drawings on pages 29 & 59. The first showing a female warrior fighting off a hulking minotaur and the second showing a nude female about to battle a gigantic, coiled snake. Strange aliens, voracious beasts, powerful heroes, treacherous villains...gun blazing action and epic space battles; It's all to be found in this fantastic 64 page collection of Mitch's art.

3 comments about Kitchen Ceramics (Everyday Things).
- I found this book at the library and studied the ceramic forms in it so many times(and paid enough late fees on it) that I decided I probably needed a copy.
It's a good reference book for a potter even if it's different from what you produce. It's loaded with visual information.
I love the intro pictures of the 19th century English potteries.
- As a novice collector of yellowware bowls I found this book to contain much general information from the history of kitchen ceramics to specific styles. The detailed color photographys are simply outstanding, showing numerous styles within each category of ceramic, and even goes so far as to point out the individual characteristics of pieces made my specific potters. This quickly became my favorite reference book and one I will never part with.
- This was a beautifully done book with wonderful pictures! The major problem I found with it is that it only covered four or five of the major brands of collectible kitchen ceramics. I ordered it under the impression that it covered a vast range of kitchen ceramics. What proved to be even more disappointing was that there was no price guide! I guess if you're an experienced collector of yellowware, redware, ironstone, etc. this would be a great book. For a novice such as myself, it proved to be relatively useless.

1 comments about Yellow Ware.
- This book is helpful in identifying pieces, and learning some early history, but of course the prices are very outdated. The photography isn't of the best quality, and in some cases, unprofessional looking for a book, but still interesting and helpful. There were some inconsistencies in the text and errors with Pottery names, but I think it's worth owning if you are a yellow ware collector.
