5 comments about Easy Origami.

  1. This is called Easy Origami but my granddaughter and I found the instructions difficult to follow.

  2. I sent this book to an inmate in the county jail. He got a lot of enjoyment out of it. It is for beginners, and has a lot of the basics covered.

  3. I purchased this for my 7 year old. The book has some easy start Origami (swan, fish, etc.) and then moves toward others that are more challenging (water bomb, frog, etc.). She really enjoys it. I can see more Origami in her future :) (NOTE: it does not include paper, so I purchased Origami Paper Traditional Prints 8 1/4" 49 Sheets).

  4. I have been folding for over 50 years and wanted to find a good beginner's book for teaching.

This fit the bill quite well. It has a nice selection of folds, excellent instructions, and is sufficiently brief that the beginner is not intimidated. The low price is also a plus as it has the effect of encouraging the undecided to try it out.

  5. As always, I'm amazed at how quickly my items ship through Amazon. This is a great starter book. Yes, as other reviewers said, it is very basic- but I haven't done Origami for 30+ years and wanted to start from scratch learning my folds again. Also, I chose this on an Amazon recommendation grouped with other items- a fantastic asset in buying from Amazon- so the price was just unbelievable. I would so recommend this for anyone starting out and wanting to gain quick confidence, or to start off a child. I was in hospital from a car accident for many months when I started Origami, and it was a great benefit to keeping a shut-in child occupied- this book would have been a blessing as opposed to the heavy, therefore awkward to someone in bed- book I had that was a bit over my head. This is so easy to understand and follow that there is no huge learning curve and therefore no great frustration. There is instant gratification too, a newbie can quickly produce something to show off.

5 comments about Origami Paper: 24 7 x 7 Sheets in 12 Colors.

  1. I purchased this item for my grandson and he has been delighted to have the paper he needs at his finger tips and is also able to share with his brothers who now also feel the need to get with the program. They have loved it.......

  2. I bought this paper pack a couple of weeks ago and found out that it contains only 2 papers each of the various colors. Maybe I overlooked it while buying. But this made it impossible for me to fold Modular origami models or Kusudamas. This paper pack will be ideal in case you are more in the habit of folding models of animals, butterflies and such. Good quality and folds easily, otherwise. The colors are bright too.

  3. Product is as advertised and will be enjoyed by gift recipient. Merchandise was promptly shipped.

  4. I thought the paper would be thiner, but it has a substantial feel to it.

  5. The paper was fine. I used it with a basic origami book. My group of 7 kids went through it all in about an hour. It probably would have been a better value if I bought it at the local craft store.

5 comments about Absolute Beginner's Origami.

  1. I thought the book was easy to read, instructions were clear and concise. Would recommend to anyone.

  2. On a scale from Boo! to Amazing! this book scores a solid Meh...especially when compared with other books in the beginner origami genre.
What is worse is that only the out-of-print, hardback edition of this book comes with paper. I actually found the older version of it at Borders Books for less money and bought it without realizing they're the same book. The hardback version is almost worth the money just because of the paper. The paper is pretty nice. A variety of sizes, patterns and colors. This version isn't worth anything as far as I'm concerned.
Now to the book itself. It's a mediocre offering at best. Most of the models are rather boring. I find half of them to be not even worth bothering with. Some of the animals are fun. I like the mouse, duck, swan, a couple others, but I would say that to me, personally, at least half the book was useless filler material, like the pinwheel.
And what's worse is the book offers an intro to the folds and bases in the beginning and then just throws a bunch of models at you that you should be able to fold now, assuming you memorized those bases on your first read-through. If you're like me, you didn't memorize them and now find some of the models very confusing and annoying.
I have John Montroll's "Teach Yourself Origami" where he introduces a lot of the same models and yet I didn't find his book confusing at all, because he presents the bases in a completely different way. Very clear and concise with directions that are much easier to follow and understand.
I am keeping this book, but only for about three or four models in it that aren't in Montroll's book.
If you're an "absolute beginner" I would strongly recommend Montroll's book over this.

  3. Great book, for beginners. My family and I are having a great time doing all these projects, this book has clear instructions and pictures for us. highly recommend.

  4. I have found over the years that the most important thing in an origami book is clear diagrams. This book, in addition to clear diagrams has excellent photographs. The pictures were taken in such a way as to let the reader see exactly what the folder was doing. Each project has reminder sketches of how to fold its base. This elimanates flipping around through the book from project to base to project. Its a very nice feature for beginners and forgetfullers. I would have liked more projects, but that is always the case. The star box and the butterfly were my favorites in the book. Definitely worth the price.

  5. I bought this for a gift and it was very warmly received. It is an excellent book for beginners which fulfills what it states. I would recommend this book to anyone who is even slightly interested or fascinated in this amazing hobby that most anybody that can read will succeed at. It is written very well and starts with the basic art of folding and then moves on to simple objects to begin with... and continues taking you through more complex objects as the book continues.

5 comments about Origami Fun Kit for Beginners (Dover Fun Kit).

  1. You won't need patience to do the super simple origami, but you will surely need much patience when waiting for the item to arrive. It took over a month to arrive. Was it worth the wait? NO.

  2. My grandson is 11 and picked up on how to do this very easily. The directions are good, and he had a lot of fun.

  3. My seven year old girl was folding birds in about an hour all by herself. She modified the designs to make different types of birds. The directions were explained well, and the folds were simple enough to easily understand, yet still looked like the animals we folded. Purchase for kids who would enjoy folding.

  4. I recieved an incomplete order and tried three times to contact the seller and got an automatic response asking for the order number which I sent each time and never got another response about. I contacted Amazon about this and never heard back after thier automatic answer either. I will go back to [...] where I get help when there is a problem.
I am very unhappy to have purchased an item that was missing a good part of what I thought I had purchased and even more unhappy to be ignored.
I am not sure I will ever purchase from Amazon again now that I know they really do not care about customer satisfaction.

  5. I bought this kit having never done origami before in my life. I wanted to learn, so I figured a beginners' kit would be the place to start. This kit comes with three books and a pack of paper. The paper is great - lots of colors, and plenty of sheets - and the "Easy Origami" book that is inside was definitely helpful for learning, although it takes some experimentation as it lacks photos of exactly what some of the folds are. The other two books that come in the kit are Origami Animals and Origami Birds; I found these designs quite challenging for a true beginner. I was only able to complete about three of the birds before I was in over my head (and the folds started getting so tiny I wasn't able to continue making them neatly); I didn't even try any of the animals once I looked over the designs.

Overall, I would say this is a good kit for beginners, I just wish that they had included books with a better curve for difficulty of designs, rather than going from "easily done by beginners" to "whoa, this is hard!"

5 comments about Origami Paper Pattern 6 3/4" 49 Sheets (Origami Paper Packs).

  1. I like this paper. It is thin yet durable and it has a little bit of a vellum feel to it similar to the outer wrapper on a chocolate bar. Not quite but similar.
It comes in a variety of colorful small print repeating patterns and on the opposite side of each sheet is the corresponding solid color. The picture on the cover shows patterned color on one side and blank white on the other but this isn't what I got.
Being almost seven inches square means it is a little bit easier to work with. It comes with a fold out booklet that gives you some introductory folding instructions and six different projects: Swan, Pig, Tortoise, Samurai Helmet, Rowboat, and Star Box.

One nice thing about these folds is that they have a Japanese Origami feel to them; The folds in the booklet would be a bit of a challenge for absolute beginners but if you have done a little origami you will get them. See my accompanying picture that shows some of the paper and the six projects in the booklet.

  2. Unlike a prior reviewer I thought the product information was pretty clear on what was included, one sided, patterned 6 3/4 x 6 3/4 paper. here's a nice touch tho, that I thought was unusual- the non-patterned side is colored the same as the background of the patterned side, not white, and I thought that was just SUPERB. I am very pleased with the patterns, I have never had good luck finding patterned paper in stores. It is just the size I want as I want to try making Origami jewelry. anyone looking for double sided larger paper can find it here, I bought a pack of that too, and was very surprised, I'd never seen patterned paper before. The little directions are a good starter, but there is also a beginning book offered on Amazon: Easy Origami by John Montroll that is a wonderful starter- gets you up and running with no frustration or heavy learning curve- marvelous for children or newbies.

  3. This paper pack is by Tuttle again and is of a real good quality. It is easy to fold, too. One can fold pretty Kusudamas with this paper and other Modular pieces. At least that's what I have used this particulr paper pack for. This again, as with most Tuttle origami paper packs, comes in 48 colors of patterned origami paper, single - sided. One gold foil sheet is also included in addition to this.

  4. MY SON HAD A PROJECT ON JAPAN AND HE USED THIS SUBJECT TO TALK ABOUT. IT WAS EASY AND FUN AND HE GOT AN A ON THE PROJECT.

  5. Since this was a gift, I cannot comment on the substance. I do not know how to do oragami, so make no judgement.

5 comments about Genuine Origami: 43 Mathematically-Based Models, From Simple to Complex.

  1. Things we love about this book:
    + Very detailed instructions
    + Models grouped by complexity
+ Lots of side notes explaining various origami concepts and symbols
    + Variety

My 10 YO bought this book to improve his origami and we have been working through it together. He is becoming very skilled. The fundamental models really improved his techniques and taught him what all the symbols meant. Sometimes it took more than one try to get the hang of it, and we are still working out way though the book.

This is a great book for beginners and intermediates who want to expand their origami techniques and build some very cool models.

  2. Genuine Origami has become my favorite origami book. If you've had some experience folding, you will find this book to be very satisfying. Don't let the subtitle "43 Mathematically-Based Models..." throw you - this book contains clear diagrams of great models, with well-written text and tips that will help you to improve your folding skills.

  3. I've been doing origami for many years, and I got to say, this is one of the hardest book to master. The diagrams are very easy to read and is quite colorful. This is a very good book for any origami enthusiasts.

  4. Not only does this book have a great array of models, it includes the theories and principles behind them, which is something that most books of this nature lack. Each model if focused around understanding a particular technique, ranging from the most fundamental to advanced. Another thing I like about this book is rather than just exposing the reader/folder to one type of origami, there are models for different types so you can learn about multi-piece, 3 dimensional, modular, tessellation, and even teabag folding. There is also a model for each of the Chinese zodiac which I found to be really cool. The diagrams are all very clear and easy to follow showing 2 toned paper (as most origami paper is), which tends to be a fundamental problem among origami books. I'd also like to point out that Genuine Origami caters to all levels. A beginner can pick this up to learn the basics and get started with some really neat models and still be learning from it much later. I would say I'm fairly intermediate and I still have quite a bit to absorb from this book, and I still enjoy the simple models as well.

  5. This book is not for the novice folder. The instructions are a little vague but the end results are amazing. I love this book.

5 comments about Origami Paper Traditional Prints 8 1/4" 49 Sheets.

  1. I recently purchased these papers, and I was very pleased with them. The designs are very nice, they are detailed, but not overwhelmingly so. There are 6 different patterned papers; the general colors of the patterns are red, orange, magenta, dark blue, green, and hot pink. The papers also come with an instruction pamphlet on how to make six different forms. I would buy these again.

  2. I like the size of this paper (8 1/4 inches) It is good for big hands and for small hands. It comes in six different patterns and is double sided in that there is a pattern printed on both sides. One side is a pattern and the other side is the same pattern with the colors reversed. See my accompanying picture for the patterns. This package also comes with a small booklet that shows you how to fold six different items like (see my accompanying picture) a kimono, crane, Star box, lantern, fishing boat, and Hashi Wrapper which is good for holding chopsticks or pencils . The paper itself is pretty good and it holds sharp creases and is durable. So, if you are a beginner this is a good paper for you. It is also good paper for kids because of the durability and the larger size. And as a little bonus you also get a nice sheet of gold paper which you can save for a special project.

  3. This was a nice sized set for a gift. Price was right and made my daughter very happy. Beautiful colors and paper was just right for a beginner to learn with.

  4. I am thrilled that this paper is double sided, which I didn't realize when I bought it. I have never seen double sided Origami paper. The patterns are lovely. The paper is not cheapy thin at all, like toy store papers. Because I am starting again after many years, I am pleased that with the pattern on both sides, my little mistakes won't be as obvious! As I increase in skill I feel the double side will give me more scope for creativity. Will buy again!

  5. This paper is a nice quality with a good size for youngsters learning the craft. The patterns are quite pleasing and provide distinction for the learner in the folds. My 10 yo daughter loves it. Nice product.

5 comments about Toilet Paper Origami: Delight your Guests with Fancy Folds & Simple Surface Embellishments or Easy Origami for Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, Cruise Ships & Creative Housekeepers (Crafts/Towel Folding).

  1. Something a bit out in "right field" and fun. It does catch one's attention and I have receive some comments about the TP roll "artwork". Very easy to follow instructions.

  2. Love this book! I started making flowers the first day I got it in the mail, so pretty, so fun, people are wow'ed and amazed and what I can do now. This would make an amazing engagement or wedding gift as part of whatever else you're giving them. People first think this whole idea is silly, but then they love it when you do that something extra special for them. It's impossible not to smile when you see that someone did that little special thing for you.

  3. This is a wonderful book with plenty of pictures and relatively clear instructions. I had remarkable success with these even after being much less successfully with towel and napkin origami. The designs are beautiful and charming; though unfortunately that does create a prominent downside: no one wants to tear the art off and actually use the roll. :) I would still recommend this book very much; excellent way to liven up your bathroom.

  4. I absolutely LOVE this book! I've always enjoyed napkin folding, and it's a treat when I visit a hotel that takes time to fold a simple point on their toilet paper rolls. When I saw this book, I was blown away by the gorgeous designs. Even better, they are not difficult to master! I started with the most difficult design, and found the step-by-step pictures so easy to follow. I'm already hoping for a second volume. This book is so much fun. I've been leaving toilegami in restrooms all over now--restaurants, rest stops on the freeway, theatre bathrooms, friends homes. What a treat this is!

  5. I wanted to add yet another extra little touch to the Bed and Breakfast experience for my guest at the Sleigh Maker Inn in Westborough, MA, so I purchased this book. I can now leave the TP in the guests bathrooms looking pretty. Most of the folds in the book are fairly simple to make. A few take more time and patience. Any of the folds that are somewhat Victorian I have tried and was able to create. Have fun with the book, but watch out, you will get the eye roll and head shake from men.

5 comments about Origami Jewelry: More Than 40 Exquisite Designs to Fold and Wear.

  1. I'm in no way and origami expert. I can do modular origami and some basic/medium figurative designs. The designs in this book are easy to fold and the directions are very clear for those who are taking a first step in origami or jewerly making, which is very positive. It has a useful prologue to teach us different paper characteristics, toold needed and some basic techniques.

However, for somebody who is a little more experienced, it might be a bit dissapointing to realize that the "more than 40 designs" are not 40 different origami designs, but 40 things you can do with fewer origame shapes just by mixing and matching.

  2. I bought this gift for my 12 year old daughter hoping that she would make me some jewelry but I couldn't put it down once I started looking at it. Not really geared towards a 12 year old but it's beautifully photographed and the projects are really great! We're fairly experienced so the techniques were not new to us but they are MUCH smaller in scale than usual. The only down side is finding the paper they recommend. It's rare and pricy. If you have an avid folder, it's a great way to make something useful rather than having thousands of cranes, elephant, boxes all over the house!

  3. I have 3 jewelry making origami books now and this one has the most projects, tips, and background help of the group. If you've made origami before and are interested in making some jewelry pieces with it, this is the book to have. I really like the sections at the beginning that talk about what papers, tools, embellishments to use on different types of projects, very helpful. All the projects are diagrammed out, have a list of tools and supplies needed before you start, and the instructions are easy to follow.

  4. I loved this book! I have been making jewelry for a few years and am a novice to origami. I have been fascinated by origami and have taught myself via the internet. This book allowed me to use my basic origami skills and learn new techniques to make beautiful jewelry. My only problem is that I have to work and can't spend every minute making more!

  5. I really enjoyed this book. I tried a lot of the projects and was pleased with the results. I especially like the frog. The folding directions were easy to follow. I really liked the information about the different types of paper. The preservation techniques for the folded projects work well.

5 comments about Money Origami Kit: Make the Most of Your Dollar!.

  1. This is one of the coolest origami kits ever made..the angel is especially awesome.
I would recomend this to anyone who loves origami

  2. Interesting and was able to complete a few projects without refering to DVD. Have not had a lot of time with item and have not yet reviewed the DVD.

  3. some are easier than others so there is something for all stages whether beginner or advanced; it would have helped me if the diagrams had been in color rather than gray.

  4. The packaging of this book is beautifully designed with a box, some sample money to play with, written instructions and how-to movies of all the folds. I always find a video of origami a thousand times easier to follow than written instructions. So that was appreciated here and well worth the price.

I bought The Money Origami Kit as a gift for someone who knows nothing about origami but says he wants to know how to make money folds. I thought this a perfect way to introduce him to origami where he can learn some of the easier diagrams and at the same time create something that has special meaning for him.

Michael LaFosse's Origami Money Kid is a wonderful gift for anyone including yourself.

  5. Very nice gift for a beginner or a child. Comes with some actual sized "monopoly money" dollar bills.
