4 comments about Custom Wooden Music Boxes for the Scroll Saw: The Berry Basket Collection Revised Edition.
- Only the first 12 pages have details on building music boxes, the rest are all patterns. You also don't have a photo of each completed box. Some only are line drawings and the photos are the size of a quarter, up in the corner of the page.
A good pattern book but not really for beginners. Page 188 is supposed to be the resources page with info on suppliers. It is an advertising page for the publisher in my copy.
- Overall, beautiful fretwork patterns. Some instructions could be a little clearer. I was happy with my purchase.
- Though the patterns seem daunting at first glance, once started they seem to go together well. I opted making a trinket box for my wife for Christmas rather than a music box, due to time constraints. Needless to say, she was extremely pleased, and was unable to see all my "minor" mistakes. Definitely not for the novice scroller - but that's just my opinion. Overall, a great book with some fascinating patterns.
- Custom Wooden Music Boxes For The Scroll Saw is a pattern guide for intermediate to advanced woodworkers seeking to create intricate and beautiful wooden music boxes. A brief "getting started" section walks the reader through such woodworking and scroll saw techniques as cutting the frame, assembling turntable projects, applying the proper finish, and more. The bulk of Custom Wooden Music Boxes For The Scroll Saw is devoted to full-size patterns ideal for creating over 45 music box projects. Sample themes from the patterns include angels, horses, kids' music boxes, holiday music boxes, romantic music boxes, and Victorian music boxes. Each pattern has numerous notes, clarifying tips, and assembly suggestions. An excellent project manual for creating heartfelt keepsakes.

1 comments about Making Marvelous Music Boxes.
- This book is a very good teacher for making music boxes, whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or expert. It talks about the peices used for music boxes and has easy step-by-step instructions. The book has photographs and drawings for each music box, and also alternate ideas for each box. I recommend this book even if you don't want to make one because of the interesting facts and pictures.

4 comments about The Musical Box: A Guide for Collectors : Including a Guide to Values.
- Great reference book. Massive number of pictures, specs, histories, drawings and detailed information.
- A wonderful book with great photographs and information.
- As others have said, this profusely illustrated book tells you everything you might want to know about music boxes. As a beginning collector, I bought it to learn about the subject; steeling myself to deal with one of those dull scholarly tomes. I need not have worried. It is not only a technically rich resource, it is written with light-hearted style and grace and is a pleasure to read.
- Ord-Hume presents an exhaustive work on the subject of music box collecting. This book has almost everything you need to know including identification of tune-sheets, manufacturers, music box styles and types. He includes a guide to values which is probably already out-dated, but it gives a good idea of what different boxes are worth.
If you want to know what a rigid formation box is, it's in there. If you want to know the difference between a mandoline box and a organeoclide, you'll learn it there. It's an excellent reference book, and I even read it as I would a novel, it's that well presented.

2 comments about Music Boxes: The Collector's Guide to Selecting, Restoring, and Enjoying New and Vintage Music Boxes.
- I collect antique music boxes and have several books on the subject. I would say that around 90% of this book is devoted to modern toys and there is mere lip service to the exquisite machines from which they were derived.
I also found it personally insulting that he claims to include restoration. If I tried to restore a music box after his instructions I would end up with a pile of parts and their condition would be irreperable--more damage than help.
- This book is not what I expected. The content is not very informative and it lacks any real knowledge of collecting music boxes.

2 comments about The Enchanted Ear: Lured into the Music Box Cosmos.
- Larry Karp has presented for us beautifully many tales that many of us collectors go through regularly. While I consider myself an advanced collector, I still find that there is a lot to learn about collecting, and about musical boxes themselves. Well done, Larry.
- This is a perfectly wonderful book filled with life and integrity. Larry Karp writes extrmely well and is able to convey his passion for music box collecting in a way that even noncollectors such as I can find extremely thrilling. How great that the book is now available in reprint. Anyone who is entertained by Dr. Karp's fiction--along with those who are not yet acquainted--will love this book. The book is simply for readers and humans.
