  1. if you can force yourself to hang (ha!) in there. The poor quality of the book itself is almost offensive - I haven't seen that kind of paper since the pages of coloring books. And he can't draw worth beans. There is nothing visually appealing about this book, which is ironic considering the topic. But read on and you'll find some gems hidden within. It might be worth 5 stars - I don't know. I can't get past the awful presentation (the profit margin on this book must be terrific).

  2. I recommend Bruce Cana Fox's book "Making Mobiles" instead. It is more expensive, but the clear color pictures and concise text make a mobile easier to do.

  3. If you haven't created mobiles before and are interested in where to start then you'll probably find this book interesting; it will help teach you the first steps in mobile creation and stimulate your thinking about mobiles.
But I do feel the book is lacking, particularly in that the information seems relevant only to beginners, but also that the book is so short, and for the price this is a big disappointment. Amazon product information shows it as 80 pages but if you subtract the front pages and table of contents it has 73 pages, and of those 13 are blank pages for sketching your own mobile ideas. $18.95 for a 60 page book in black and white with no photos (only sketches) seems a bit expensive to me.
Still, there aren't that many good books on creating mobiles so you may want to splurge on this one.

  4. TR's book is entertaining as well as instructional. He is a wonderful teacher: precise, imaginative, and sincere. A must for anyone in love with mobiles.

  5. Clearly, this is an artist whose life is mobiles; what an immignation. This is a great book for both ideas and techniques. Inspirational!

  1. If you grew up in the 60's and were a plastic kit nut as I was, this is the book for you.
Throughout the years, I have bought and read quite a few books and magazines on this subject, including some specifically covering Aurora models, and nothing has come even close to this book.
The research and photographs are nothing short of spectacular. I only wish some of the kit photos would have been a bit larger on the pages.
This glossy, softbound book is one every serious model builder should have on their shelf. Fun reading and an excellent reference book.
    Thomas Graham, BRING US MORE!

  2. Thomas Graham's Aurora Model Kits is an informative tome fill with models of cars, planes, tanks, and the like; but it was the monster/ sci-fi kits that brought back many nostalgic remembrances of my childhood days- most of which was spent reading monster comic books like Dick Briefer's The Monster of Frankenstein and Zombie Factory, while waiting for the paint to dry on my glow in the dark monster models. If you were a kid in the 60's and want to see some of the kits you begged your mother to buy you at Woolworth department store, this 160 page "time machine" is for you!

  3. Wonderful value for the price. SRP is $29.95 and got it for $19.77 through Amazon. Tons of great historical information and lots of fabulous color photos of build-ups and original boxes. Price guide is "okay" as many prices are pretty far off compared to what they sell for on ebay, for example. All things considered, it's a great book!

  4. Highly recommended to any afficiando of Aurora kits, particularly those who wish to recall the deeply statisfying pleasure of finding those great Aurora art work boxes under their Christmas tree in the 1950's!

Apart from its enormous appeal to nostalgia, the serious student will find the work very well organized and a most reliable reference guide well worth the outlay.

  5. I was so happy that Schiffer brought Dr. Graham's Aurora book back out. In fact, I sent in a card requesting they do so a few years back after I bought his Revell Model's book. I just loved the memories, especially seeing that just horrible "Yak-25/Mig-19" kit Aurora put out. Of course it was totally fanciful, but I remember 51 years later the day I bought it. There are kits in here that have disappered from existence for so long, like the model knights and the USS Halford, which I had thought was a Revell model until Dr. Graham was kind enough to answer an e-mail a few years ago. For any of us who grew up in the 50's making models, this book is a must. It is amazing, it brought back friends, times, feelings, the whole 9 yards. Dr. Graham is an excellent writer and obviously historian, you won't be sorry. Get this and his Revell book and just be 8,9 or 10 again.

  1. Great book for beginners.
This book breaks down parts and describes their functions. Worth your time to read if you are new to RC cars or just new to two-stroke engines.

five stars for the seller as well. i would purchase from this seller again.

  2. This book really is an excellent source of data for the beginner Nitro RC driver. Gives basic information for getting started and pointers to help you enjoy the hobby. Book is not 100% up to date but still very helpful and adds insight to the hobby

  3. For me, having driven electrical RC cars and planing to bye a nitro for next season, this book provides useful information on many aspects of nitro RC cars. Easy to understand with lots of pictures. The keyword is BASICS.

  4. a pretty good book overall. i need some tuning tips, so i bought this book. it also go into other areas (suspention, wheels, motors, etc). a good read for a beginner.

  5. This is the best book for anyone who is even considering going into hobby class remote control cars. I read it over and over and over, and now people can't stopme from spewing out random RC facrs! Did you know that a 4 stroke rc car engine gives out less HP on avrage than a 2 stroke, yet costs more? 2 strokes have a greater bottom end power, but reach a lower top speed! A .12 2 stoke may cost 129, vs a 4 stroke that may cost 300. Sorry, sorry everyone, im sorry, but I couldn't help myself. GET THIS BOOK!

  1. The book is very useful giving ideas and techniques for auto diaromas. (It may be the only book on the subject) But I must be missing something with regard to the price. I bought the book from Kalmbach Books for $18.95 Unless the book has 22ct gold leaf pages, I'm at a complete loss regard the exorbidant price.

  2. Simply put, Hamilton's book will make you into a better builder . . . it is a treasure trove of useful information, tips, techniques, and tricks . . . plus the writer has a great sense of humor and the fun he has building and sharing how to build better comes through on every page. Great photographs too. Get yourself a copy, but also get copies for your builder friends--they will really appreciate it and never forget you for having done so.

  3. I have read the book in the last 3 days, all I can say, is that this book is excellent, it covers everything from the simplest to the more difficult ideas, yet making them all look simple. a very satisfied customer. Joe Scheibel

  5. Finally,a diorama book that doesn't focus on battle scenes (but those guys can learn a LOT with this book).

Instead, Ken shows how to spice up your automotive subjects, from simple display base scenes to complete, contained scenes.

Rust, mud, grime, and slime. Beaten, dented, worn out, used and abused. Ken shows you how.

Also, there is plenty about texturing, photo-reducing and sign-making, as well as an excellent primer on figure posing and painting.

This is a book that has been long overdue for model car builders, but as I said, anyone who works with scale models of any sort will find this to be a gold mine.
