1. This book is what "One L" should have been, an honest look at what law school and early practice are all about. The brutal honesty in each story reveals what few lawyers would admit, that behind the professional veneer there is a much grittier reality. Stories about difficult or insane clients, unreasonable bosses, ego clashes and the constant stress get at a side of lawyering that is rarely dealt with openly. Yet the book is not depressing, just honest. An eye opener for anyone interested in the legal profession.



2. Few writers capture reality so well and create from it a literature of this rare vibrance. If you like Hemingway, Bukowski, Pekar, or any of the new breed of auto-biographical writers, you will love this book. This should also be a must read for law students so they know what they are getting themselves into. This book pulls away the curtain of professional secrecy and gives a rare and honest glimpse of the lawyer's life. Sex, drugs, rock n roll, plus lots of anxiety, angst, fear, greed, and frustration. It's all here. To cap things off the book even has madlibs. What more could you ask for. I give this book my highest rating.

1. It is wonderful to have a such a succint and engaging novel about a talented and intelligent jurist. So few books are written on Caribbean Jurisprudence, which makes this one all the more a treasure to be added to any library, large, small, private or public. It is my hope that all persons, laymen and lawyers a like, will find their way to this book and take the time to learn what molds and expands both Caribbean law and the jurists within such. Enjoy!

1. A wonderful read... a combination Marjorie Kinan Rawlings and Carl Hiaasen that keeps you on the edge of your seat with its clear, crisp, Hemingwayesque prose.

George Caner, one of the most forceful and articulate trial lawyers practicing in Boston over the past forty years, has written a wonderful account of some of the most challenging (and notorious) cases he has handled over that time period. I rank this book right up there with Louis Nizer's classic, My Life In Court, and believe that it is essential reading not only for any trial attorney seeking to improve her/his skills, but also for any person who delights in the workings and insights of an extraodinary mind.

Hopkins has served as the editor of the Pasadena Journal and in that capacity, fearlessly voiced his uncompromising (and at times quite controversial) thoughts concerning the infestation of negative image of Black youth in the media and the best means to provide economic empowerment of Black youth today. I Will Not Apologize is a manifesto of Hopkins' articulated opinions and proposed solutions to fight against economic and social dilemmas that plague contemporary African-Americans. From the importance of teaching young black men and women to succeed, to the value of entrepreneurship, government lies, as well as the importance of learning to speak Spanish, and denouncing gangster rap artists as "role models for failure", I Will Not Apologize collects diverse and individual short pieces that, brought together, offer a rigorous path to a better future. I Will Not Apologize is especially recommended reading and a welcome addition to Black Studies supplemental reading lists.
