1. Mike Hurdzan's Golf Greens is not an easy read straight through from cover to cover because it is highly technical. But I did it and I'm glad. It searches the subject in far greater depth of detail and pictorially than anyone has ever done before. Great coverage! And it doesn't always simply "sell the conventional line". I learned lots from it, though before thought I was already pretty well experienced in this important matter. I recommend this book to all golf course developers, contractors, maintenance superintendents and other golf course architects for learning much more about golf greens.

1. Although not as extensive or comprehensive as some other gardening books out there (see "The Complete Book of Practical Gardening"), this book is excellent for what it sets out to do; namely, provide you with "simple steps to enhance your home and yard." At only 144 pages, it's also easy to carry around with you. I have taken it with me to the garden center many times to make sure I get the right plant(s).

   This book can save you a lot of money if you don't have much experience, as it shows you how to do things yourself (i.e., without hiring expensive landscapers/contractors), like installing a simple patio or a garden walkway, building a raised bed, hedging for privacy or to mask unattractive utility boxes, foundations, etc., enhancing difficult terrain, transforming slopes, designing for difficult (wet, shady, dry, etc.) areas, etc. I have had this book for over a year and it has gotten a LOT of use (and dog-earing)!

1. With Florida as her laboratory and museum, Miami Herald staffer Georgia Tasker has shared her knowledge and love of tropical plants in this helpful guide. Unlike many books on the topic, this one provides consideration of hazards, such as hurricane, drought, and disease, selection and use of tools, attracting birds and butterflies, and creating peaceful, restorative environments. The usual topics are covered in addition - trees, shrubs, palms and cycads, flowering plants, and fragrant and fruit-bearing plants as well. There is a useful section on invasive plants, a short list of gardens to visit, as well as a bibliography and index. Much more a hands-on workbook than a coffee table book, it nevertheless inspires and encourages the beginning or intermediate gardener. 2. This is my favorite Florida gardening book.
   It's all here- how to choose, propogate and care for both native and exotic plants, seasonal advice, post and pre hurricane gardening tips, natural & chemical pest control, you name it. The book is informative, interesting and enjoyable to read. A must have for any Florida gardener's library and an asset to any gardening collection.

Collaboratively edited and with introductions by Drake Hokanson and Carol Kratz, America From The Air: An Aviator's Story is the memoir of Wolfgang Langewiesche, a German-born test pilot, writer, and editor famous for his series of classic books that describe his adopted home of America from the sky. America From The Air collects selections from his classic accounts, "I'll Take The High Road" and "A Flier's World", first published in 1939 and 1951 respectively. Both give a talented perception of the physical sensation of flying, seeing small farms, deserted seashores, busy railway lines, and the general awe and wonder of lookind down from on high. An engrossing read for anyone truly curious about what it feels like to fly, encompassing memories of America through time and the author's own true passion for aviation.

1. About the only way that we know about her nowadays is by visiting Maudslay State Park in Massachusetts. The drives and gardens there are what is left of what she did on the Maudesleigh estate in Newburyport for Frederick A Moseley. And yet Martha Brookes Hutcheson was among the first women students at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and one of three women given fellowship early on in the picky American Society of Landscape Architects. Fortunately, her one, excellent, very readable book is still around also. Probably that is because of her beautiful notion that people feel connected to their buildings and land by way of THE SPIRIT OF THE GARDEN. That spirit basically meant seeing the garden, never a greenhouse, as an outdoor room of the house. It also meant being the first to call for growing local, native plants. In spelling this and more all out, she might also have been the first to use before and after pictures!

1. One of the first architectural books I bought, because it was different. I didn't know who he was at first or if he was an architect. I thought comic would be a great branch into architecture. This books show many of this theoretical project that is base of a post-apocalypse society. This book displays his great hand work skills. He used mediums of color-pencil, ink sketches and some very powerful chip-board models. 85% of the book is artworks. There are some texts on this philosophy for his reasoning if you would believe it or not. I went to his lecture at SciArt and his new stuff is just as similar in style to his older works in his book. I no longer regard Wood as much of an architect or nor a artist. This book was good in time of my interest in the subject, but now it has no resourceful information.



2. Lebbeus Woods is perhaps unequalled, and definitely the most imitated renderer in the architectural world. With that said, this book is just a shadow of his masterpiece, "Anarchitecture: Architecture as a Political Act"

   I recommend this for thos who already know Woods and can't get enough of him, but as an introduction, definitely read Anarchitecture.

4. lebbeus woods' visions cross the border between real and apocalyptic. his highly evocative renderings are rooted in his surrounding environment, but they move us to the realm of fantasmic architecture. brilliant.
