   The book is chock-full of stunning Gardens, Landscapes, and ARCHITECTURE, ARCHITECTURE, ARCHITECTURE! Palladian bridges, monuments, and mystical grottos all in beautifully landscaped settings. There are fantastic larger-than-life statues. A cascading waterfall as far as the eye can see. It amazes me how some of these structures (& gardens) were ever created in the first place...and at what a cost!

   This book will be a good addition to the art books on your coffee table.

1. I was a little disappointed in this book. It is primarily a history of some famous gardens which have been covered more completely elsewhere. The photos are for the most part very old and not as clear as they should be, and there were not enough of them. There are a couple of interesting topics such as an outline of the use of victory gardens during WWI & II, and a small section on Aztec gardens created in a marsh. Otherwise not worth it. I was looking for something more like 'Creative Vegetable Gardening' by Joy Larkom - but this was not it.

1. If you think that a book on the stone walls of New England might be "dry," you are wrong. This brilliantly written and researched book is as riveting as any thriller. You will gain a new appreciation for the countless anonymous generations that went before us and left their mark-- those beautiful, enduring stone walls. An absolutely fascinating book!



2. This book was truly an unexpected pleasure. Its not a how-to book but rather a history of the stone wall. Surprisingly, that history takes the reader into a wide range of topics: geology, botany, architecture, colonial american history, among others. Because stone walls were so commonplace, their builders left very little discussion of their motives and means. Allport acts almost like a detective, piecing the story together. Additionally, because she clearly loves stone walls (and writes well), she is able to capture the mystery and the beauty of her subject. This is a great read for a wide audience: from the historically curious to anyone who wishes to build a wall of stone.

1. This book is an absolutely illuminating look into the history of Creative Time's impact on public art. Beautifully printed images accompany textual explorations into artists' projects with Creative Time over the past few decades. A must-have for anyone interested in the growth of art that is vital for the creation of a more enriching public realm.



2. If you like public art and if you like New York, buy this book. It's a fascinating history of an organization that has, for four decades, been at the forefront of this field. This book is beautifully done by Princeton Architectural Press and the several year effort by director Anne Pasternak and her staff is really quite amazing. The 300 plus projects they have sponsored are chronologically presented with beautiful color photography and interspersed with essays and interviews by some fascinating people. Also, this book is going to be a collector's item because each cover is a distinct numbered print generated by a machine recording the sights and sounds of NYC. You can either skim the surface by focusing on the projects alone, or you can delve deeper into the minds of the people who have created and presented these projects.

1. I bought this book with the hopes of having a reference that would limit my hours of google research and talking to other designers to try to find answers to common design issues. But for some reason, it seems to have all the information I'm not looking for, and none of the information I'm actually looking for! Buy Time Saver Standards instead. It's heavier and more expensive, but much more complete.



2. Shipping wise, it took a little while to get this book- but after opening the cover I have found it to be a great resource. It gives you all the basics and quick references for basic information you may need to know at the drop of a hat.

1. This is an incredible achievement. It absolutely must be in the library of every architect and architecture student in the world, because we have lost contact with the beauty and social glory of living urbanistically. The architecture we produce supports this suburbanized lifestyle, and the anti social results of this new pattern of living can be seen daily on the news in all manner of bizarre murders and cultist activity. Well then! Without advocating a style of architecture in particular, this book advocates a type of planning that, if we are intelligent enough to understand this book, could save this country, and save the world. I do not exaggerate. Buy the book. You'll be a different person for having purchased it.
