1 comments about The New Small Garden: Plans and Plants That Make Every Inch Count.

  1. The book covers the information needed to create a garden out of a small lot. The plans are detailed a realistic enough that a beginning gardener can work with them. I especially like the herb garden in the book. The pictures are beautiful.

2 comments about Redeveloping Brownfields: Landscape Architects, Site Planners, Developers.

  1. As principal of a small environmental consulting firm, it is crititcal that I remain up-to-date on environmental requirements affecting my clients. Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) requiremnts, also known as Brownfield requirements, are often cumbersome, unclear, and incomplete. Mr. Russ' book, Redeveloping Brownfields: Landscape Architects, Site Planners, Developers, has helped to clarify the general "brownfields" process which is applicable throughout the Country and the specific requirements of Maryland's VCP program. We are greatful for this very valuable guide.

  2. As a consultant in the field of redeveloping properties with environmental concerns, Redeveloping Brownfields, by Thomas H. Russ, was enlightening. This book can be used as a reference for all those involved in the urban redevelopment industry. The book provided handy and useful disussions of methods used to redevelop problem sites as well as proper methods for assessing environmental site issues. The book helped provide a comprehensive understanding of issues from assessment to reoccupancy. For all those in the industry or having a desire to learn more about Brownfields, this book is a must.

1 comments about The American Woman's Garden.

  1. Gardens?! In America?! Documented by an Englishwoman?! Rosemary Verey has American women tell how their gardens got the way they did. Some enlarging inherited ones, some starting with bare dirt, some restarting with dismay after a disaster with weather, or life events. Good photos as well. Ms Verey's other books are well worth reading, both as how-to-do-it, and gee-whiz photos.

2 comments about The French Garden.

  1. A beautiful book from cover to cover. The images are crisp and the subject matter simply breathtaking. The French garden is the Italian Garden talken to the formal extreme. The master of the French garden, the incomparable, Le Notre, brought the formal garden to its apex, with his work at Veax le Vicomte and Versailles. This book does a wonderful job of capturing the French garden at its most spectacular. If you have any interest in formal gardens are just appreciate amazing photography and beauty in general, then i can't imagine you not loving this book. As for the the other reviews comment about this not being a self help book on French formal gardening..i concur, but honestly madame, were you going to go out and create the the Neptune Fountain at Versailles? I suggest u invest in a copy of the Sun King's notes on the gardens of Versailles, they are well written and quite in depth, I mean what else did Louis have to do, I suppose... I mean get real; it's good to be da king..

  2. If you are looking for a coffee table book with gorgeous pictures, this is definitely a wonderful book. If you are looking for a book, as I was, that would show you photos of complete gardens so that you might create your own French-inspired garden, this is not the best choice. However, it is a delightful addition to any garden library. If you have been lucky enought to visit France, it brings back fond memories of the landscape. Enjoy!
