1. This book is not designed to be all things for all people, but rather a starting point. I think it gives good sketches for ideas on what you might want to do with your landscaping. It shows you general classes of plants, how many, and where to place them to achieve similar results from what is depicted in the book. I did not find one particular sketch to be fitting of what I want but pieces of several that I used to draw my own sketch for my yard. Then with looking around the landscaping in my area and talking with the people at local nurseries, I have been able to select the appropriate plants to fit that sketch -- all for free. So if you are looking for an absolute cookbook approach to landscaping, this is not it. But if you want good ideas and some guidance, you'll find what you are looking for here. You can by the landscape plans for $55 or less. So the investment isn't so bad if you want the recipe too.



2. The landscape plans are tiny and there are no plant lists - you have to buy the plant list, deck/structure plans and useable sized landscape plans. When I realized this could easily amount to a hundred bucks I returned the book (and I NEVER return anything).

   You are asked to invest this money in a landscape design based on an artist rendering of the design, generally from one angle and in one season. I can't imagine anyone purchasing a plan this way.

   And wosrt of all many of these plans are not original. They are the same or very similar to plans that have appeared in landscape or house design magazines (where you also have to order the plans and plant lists).

   For about the price of this book you can buy Sunset Northeastern Landscaping, Landscaping in the Northeast and Canada zones 3,4,5 and 6 or something similar for your region. With these books you get plans with plant lists and descriptions, how-to info, photos and much more.

   Please look around befor you waste money on this book. There are MUCH better books out there.




3. Over the last decade we have landscaped 3 homes and the landscape plans here were a huge help in defining what we wanted and how exactly to lay out the plants. I have referred to this book and Easy Care Landscape Plans over and over again. I only wish they had a book filled with plans for those of us dealing with small California yards!



4. This book has plenty of ideas for backyards, but they're all sketches, not photographs. Plus, you have to order the blueprints to find out what plants they're talking about in the book. This book was not very helpful.

1. As principal of a small environmental consulting firm, it is crititcal that I remain up-to-date on environmental requirements affecting my clients. Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) requiremnts, also known as Brownfield requirements, are often cumbersome, unclear, and incomplete. Mr. Russ' book, Redeveloping Brownfields: Landscape Architects, Site Planners, Developers, has helped to clarify the general "brownfields" process which is applicable throughout the Country and the specific requirements of Maryland's VCP program. We are greatful for this very valuable guide.



2. As a consultant in the field of redeveloping properties with environmental concerns, Redeveloping Brownfields, by Thomas H. Russ, was enlightening. This book can be used as a reference for all those involved in the urban redevelopment industry. The book provided handy and useful disussions of methods used to redevelop problem sites as well as proper methods for assessing environmental site issues. The book helped provide a comprehensive understanding of issues from assessment to reoccupancy. For all those in the industry or having a desire to learn more about Brownfields, this book is a must.

1. It is a rare moment when text and image collaborate to tell a story that could be told by neither alone. X-Urbanism is one of these moments. The dialog between the writing and drawings in this book is brilliant. The ultimate result of the conversation between the two is a nuanced understanding of the relationship that cities have with the subconscious of their inhabitants.

Both eloquently and clearly, X-Urbanism explores the historical and continuing development of the American City through the lens of an eye opening thesis: fantasy and desire have been pivotal factors in the shaping of Urban Space. As the author illustrates, the implications of this point of departure reach far beyond the conventional boundaries of urban studies to include a wealth of other disciplines such as psychology, philosophy, and popular culture. Through the course of this book, the affects of fantasy on the Renaissance City, the Baroque City, the Modern City, and the Post-modern City are charted. Without being dogmatic or judgmental, Mr. Gandelsonas frames the City as a simultaneous object and subject that is influenced by the desires of architects while also influencing its inhabitants with its own wishes.

   After reading the text and viewing the drawings that conclude this book it was as though I was walking around an object that until now I had only understood from a stationary position.

   This book is a must read for anyone who lives inside or outside of a city.
