2 comments about Professional Practice for Landscape Architects, Second Edition.
- This book was published in Great Britain and deals with British standards and laws. While it is interesting to compare with US standards, and some things are essentially the same in both countries, it is not a good LARE review book !
- Just a word to the wise if you are looking at buying this book.
It is intended for Landscape Architects in Great Britain, not the United States.I never really read it, because it didn't apply to me... so I gave it a neutral(I think) 3 star rating.

1 comments about The Gardens of Versailles.
- Versailles is as famous for Le Norte's gardens are they are for Mansarts palace to end all palaces. This is very good book on these beautiful gardens, the images jump off the page and the text is highly informative. Louis XIV, spent so much time ruminating over these gardens with his great landscape architect Le Notre, that he himself wrote a guide to the gardens, it has been said that Louis was always more pleased with the gardens than he ever was with the palace. Though the gardens of Versailles are spectacular, if you ever visit the Ile of France, be sure to see Le Notre's masterwork at Vieux le Vicomte, now that's perfection personified..it was so spectacular that the King had the owner Fouquet imprisoned, his property confiscated, and had Le Notre leave Vieux le Vicomte and start work immediately on his palace at Versailles, even today Vieux le Vicomte is unfinished.

3 comments about The Landscape Makeover Book: How to Bring New Life to an Old Yard.
- I would say this is a worthwhile book if you are looking for pictures of made-over yards and decks. There are very few "before" pictures and not a lot of detail on how to achieve the results. The process is explained, from planning on paper to renovating walks, concrete stoops, garden beds and plantings.
Examples of various projects are shown in photographs and described in some detail. Pruning and moving shrubs and trees are shown. There is not a lot of specific information about plants. There is a very brief discussion of water features. This book is a good place to start the process, but unless you already have construction and horticultural skills, you will need additional information to actually complete a project.
- This book will serve well for the FIRST TIME DO-IT-YOURSELFER to take on a major remodeling job in the garden.
It goes over everething from the planning to the finishing touches. Tools required are discussed in simple easy to understand language and photographs are also included! Problems are also discussed- with photographs to help you understand. A good book to have if you are planning to revamp your lanscape!
- The book's write up sounds exactly what I was looking for, ideas on updating existing landscapes. Needless to say I was disappointed. There was nothing new that a gardener would not have already have read in Southern Living or Country Home Gardens magazines. Its fine for a glance at Barnes and Noble with a cup of coffee, but don't waste your money taking it home.
