5 comments about Post 86 Fiesta: Identification and Value Guide.
- Great learning tool about fiesta dishes. Good pictures showing colors and their names. Quality book.
- I'm both a collector and a bibliophile, and this is the first time I've ever thought it necessary to this say about any collector's book: In my opinion, this book stinks. A shame, as it's clear that the author has in-depth knowledge to impart. Unfortunately, it's clouded by the author's apparent dislike of dealers, fellow collectors, and the Homer Laughlin China Company itself.
The book designer's work is exuberant and cheerful, much as is Fiestaware; however, the author's text is mean spirited. I don't think I've ever seen an odder combination. I hope for better things from the obviously knowledgeable author in the future.
- The idea for a book dedicated to Post-1986 (P86) Fiestaware® is a terrific idea and I was pleased to order it.
What a poor execution! Racheter's attempt is inconsistent, sophomoric and diseased with his unceasing attacks on Homer Laughlin China Company. (Who cares why he hates Homer Laughlin? Not me!) The (little) new information and price guide for some P86 colors - the book's innovative features - are overshadowed by the pointless commentary. Unfortunately the book isn't worth keeping for the pictures either... Don't buy this book!...
- This book is a good start, but so much has changed in post 86 Fiesta... items, colors added and discontinued, prices. An update is desperately needed. Also a bit less "filler" as far as stories and dramatic exposition and more emphasis on actual introductions and discontinuations in the new line. Also, so many competing lines are similar... a back of the book section showing other contemporary dinnerware lines that currently compete with Fiesta.
My biggest suggestion would be a chapter showing comparison of old versus new items to show the evolution of design...1.e. the old casserole versus the new one, old cup next to new one. Many collectors of the new do not appreciate where the design evolved from Also, the only decaled ware shown is...well.. the less said the better about what is shown... where are the artistic and popular patterns like Sunporch, Happy Pumpkin and Moon Over Miami?
- This book is better than the Collector's Encyclopedia of Fiesta. So save yourself about $... and buy this book instead if you want informations on POST 86 Fiesta.
It is full of pictures and has easy to use information boxes with every mold/piece. You know what colors they came in, mold and item numbers and lots of detailed informations. The downside to this book is that you only find one picture per item (mostly) limiting your view by only offering one angle. The price list is extensive enough to not leave colors out. I personally enjoy the authors style of writing thoroughly with his light humor. Mocking Martha Stewart a little, because he seems to think that she's a stuck up snob that only wants the Super Old stuff and abominates the new colors for the most part. He tells funny stories about TV and where he's seen fiesta. However, a little more history and facts would sometimes be nice. I assume, people buy this book for information not funny short stories. I thoroughly enjoy that fact that he includes uses for some odd pieces. Looking at some candle holders they could be anything. He explains what the item was meant for and what else it is commonly used for. LAst but not least... unfortunately it seems like this author was not given the same acces to limited pieces and photographs in is therefore lacking some details on limited ed. pieces.

5 comments about Anchor Hocking's Fire-King and More: Identification and Value Guide Including Early American Prescot and Wexford (Anchor Hocking's Fire-King and More).
- THIS BOOK IS GREAT TO HELP YOU IDENTIFY TRUE FIRE KING GLASSWARE. I'VE NOT FOUND THIS BOOK ANYWHERE ELSE BUT AT AMAZON. I'M SO GLAD YOU OFFERED IT, IT HAS BEEN NOT ONLY INTERESTING BUT VERY INFORMATIVE WHEN PURCHASING FIRE KING.
- If you are just starting antiquing and are active in buying and selling glassware, you really need this knowledge. You see a piece of Fireking you have never seen before and the seller want $5 for it. Will you get a bargain or a piece you will live with forever? This book has pictures, sizes and realistic pricing on Anchor Hocking glassware. You can finally find out what that strange piece of glass you bought was used for. If you shop e-bay you can find out that those four Big Top Goblets listed for sale are really tumblers as I did this week.
If you want to sell glassware on E-bay this book will pay for itself. I just wish they would add to the book. I'd pay more. It would be worth it. The book has paid for itself in a month.
- I have been an avid glass collector for years, and just recently began collecting vintage tableware and cookware too. This is my first book on the subject, and the informational text is only surpassed by the wonderful pictures of all my favorite pieces that I currently own, or hope to soon. This book covers alot of ground on the history of each piece, collection and patterns that are out there. In this particular editon, I found the section on Early American Prescut and Wexford, two of my favorites in pattern, particularly informational. I also found out information on some pieces I've had for years and knew nothing about too, which is always a fun and enlightening experience. ..............While the pricing gives you a rough idea of what pieces are worth, you need demand and a a buyer to get the value. Of course that is only when a piece is mint. .............. Price guide aside, if you are just an a person like me, who enjoys hunting down and amassing collectible glass and glassware for the sheer joy of surrounding yourself in it's beauty, as opposed to those folks who just buy everything they can find to make a profit, or do a bit of both, this and all Gene Florence editions will no doubt fascinate you too.

Just a wonerful book overall!

2 comments about Hall China Tea And Coffee Pots: The First 100 Years (Schiffer Book for Collectors with Price Guide).
- Very extensive collection of pots. There were several I have never seen before in any other publication.
Could be organized in a more user friendly manner, but would still reccomend the book to any Hall collector.
- Yesterday I received this beautiful book on Tea and Coffee Pots that have been produced by the Hall China Company. If you collect Tea and/or Coffee Pots this is a must have book. It has all the Tea and Coffee Pots that the Hall China Company produced from 1903 to today. The just released book by Gary and Paula Barnebey has over 800 color photos in this 240-page book. This is a well written and researched book has an extensive bibliography. The book contains Tables with general color lines produced through the years and availability over time, a color
chart, and much, much more.

4 comments about Tiffany Silver Flatware 1845-1905.
- This is the Bible for Tiffany collectors but it also has a history of the purpose of each piece of flatware.
- For all silver lovers, not just Tiffany lovers. Beautiful book, beautifully produced. Pictures could not be better.
- This is a terrific book! It covers the complete spectrum of Tiffany silver flatware from 1845 to 1905. It's lavishly illustrated with photographs, diagrams, and original pattern drawings. It covers the full-line patterns, the not-full-line patterns, and the custom patterns made for the likes of the Vanderbilts and the Hearsts.
The book breaks the patterns down by designer: early pieces by retailers Polhamus, Hebbard, Gorham, Moore and others; the major designers Edward Moore, Charles Grosjean, and Paulding Parnham. It shows the various place pieces in standard patterns, as well as covering the extensive amount of fabulous and rare serving and other odd pieces (how many of you own a scallop serving fork?) There are also several useful appendices, including: Flatware Terminology; Glossary of Technical Terms; Tiffany Flatware Markings; and a Tiffany Chronology. As well, a thorough index makes it easy to find patterns or pieces you are looking for. All in all this is the perfect book for the collector of this wonderful silver. It does not contain pricing information, which is a good thing in this day and age of online auctions, as such pricing info is often outdated by the time the book reaches the press. The only problem I had after reading it was that I wanted to own everything in the book! Don't hesitate, buy it!
- This book is a superb work. The authors have filled a major void in the literature concerning the history of American decorative arts. The quality of the research and textual insights make this book essential reading for anyone interested in Tiffany silverware or the latter 19th century of American craftsmanship. The photography is so magnificent that I repeatedly find myself leafing through this book to admire the beauty of this flatware of a bygone era. A great read...a beautiful coffee table book...a classic in every respect.

1 comments about Forks, Knives and Spoons.
- This is a fabulous photo, caption, and appendix compendium for people interested in the many varieties of flatware designed for specific use. Of particular interest to me are the double-page spreads illustrating the different kinds of forks, spoons, and knives, so that one can get a sense of relative size and shape. The down side (yes, I know this would be an up side for some readers) is that the book is cluttered with recipes, making it hard to find information relating to the cutlery. I'd be much happier the food photos run with just captions, amidst appendix material used as body text, with an appendix of recipes, than the other way round. If I want to buy a cookbook, I'll buy a cookbook.

3 comments about Collector's Encyclopedia of Salt and Pepper Shakers: Second Series (Figural and Novelty 2nd Series).
- I guess the book is ok if you like ugly salt shakers. It sure wasn't worth the $20 to me that I paid for it. 90% of them, I wouldn't take for free.
- This is my favorite book on salt & pepper shakers, and I have quite a few! There are so many sets pictured, I keep finding a set I hadn't seen before every time I look through this book. The pictures are great, as are the descriptions! Definitely recommend!
- This book is definately for anyone who is looking for a wealth of information about novelty salt and pepper shakers. Since this book was published in 1990, the values may not be as up to date as later books, but I have yet to see another shaker book with so much other information about the shakers themselves. The shakers are photographed in related groups sitting on 4-5 glass shelves with a solid-colored background. The pictures are excellent. The entire first page of each section contains a detailed description of the shakers pictured with the values for each listed at the bottom of the page. The description are truly wonderful and must have been thoroughly researched. That is the best part of this book. Ms. Davern talks about the background of many of the shakers as well as of the company that made them. She also mentions other related shakers that are not pictured in some cases. There are very few collectible salt and pepper shaker books that one can truly say is enjoyable reading. However, this is a wonderful book to just sit and read through due to Ms. Davern's descriptions, personal views, and beautiful pictures. This book is a must for any novelty salt and pepper shaker collector.
