5 comments about The Kitchen Linens Book: Using, Sharing, and Cherishing the Fabrics of Our Daily Lives.
- This book is a wonderful balance of personal stories, photographs and history. If you experienced the 1940-1960 time period, you will love it.
- This book is very informative on how to care for and use vintage linens. Presentation and displaying tips were very helpful.
- I carried this book with me on a trip, and EVERYONE decided to
read it. It's very well put together. If you like Kitchen stuff, or
are into vintage fabrics or stitchery, this book is a great addition
to a collection. We oohed and ahhhed all the way through it.
- Everything I had hoped it would be!!!!! Fast reading and beautiful pictures also. Good mix of info on tablecloths and other linens as well.
- In our family, there has always been a treasure trove of linens, many embroidered by the hands of long-dead relatives. As a child I did not pay much attention to the time and skill that went into these works, but was rather blasé about them because they were always there, ready and available to serve as a dresser scarf, cover a table, or were stored away as "special". Looking back, I am horrified by my treatment of some of these linens, and as my family has grown and aged, I have a newfound appreciation for the time my ancestors put into making, creating, and decorating these linens. Considering that many of these women worked on farms, the time they took out of their already busy day to decorate plain pieces of white linen is remarkable. With these women in mind, it was with great pleasure that I read EllynAnne Geisel's The Kitchen Linens Book: Using, Sharing, and Cherishing the Fabrics of Our Daily Lives. In this book, like in her previous one, The Apron Book: Making, Wearing, and Sharing a Bit of Cloth and Comfort, Geisel shares photographs of vintage aprons, appliance covers, handkerchiefs, towels, napkins, tablecloths, and other table linens while interweaving their history, providing recipes, and personal narratives for each of the items. This is not a book that you look through all at once, nor is it one that you look through and then never open again; Geisel's book should be considered something of a small coffee-table book where photographs of vintage linens are meant to be studied and appreciated again and again. Geisel also provides tips on caring for vintage linens, ideas on how to resurrect ruined linens for use as cards, or decorations, as well as ways to reincorporate them into everyday use. These linens and their designs may strike some as too antiquated and quaint for a modern family, but by writing this book Geisel is helping readers appreciate the timeless beauty and simplicity of embroidered cloth, and reinforcing the joy one can have in using their linens as they were meant to be used. If your supply of vintage linen is low, or even if you already have some, this book will have you cruising yard sales and online auction sites for vintage items similar to the ones shown.

5 comments about PYREX: The Unauthorized Collector's Guide (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- Great colorful book on hot Pyrex collectibles. I sell retro kitchenalia in Chicago and I use this book often.
- This is fantastic book for collectors. I have always loved pyrex, but only lately have I become serious about buying it for res-ale. It is unbelievable how many patterns and styles are available. I found the prices listed to be on the low end compared to what it is selling for now on Ebay, but it gives you a guide.
Great book - highly recommend
- This was a wonderful disappointment. While loaded with great high quality photos it lacked content for the serious collector. There was no guide to understand the makers marks. Nothing explaining the dates specific items were made only generalized groupings. How many were produced in which factory or other pertinent info. Though i can say it is loaded with good photos. It does not cover ever item Pyrex has made.
- I utilize glassware references often and already own PYREX: The Unauthorized Collector's Guide, 3rd edition. I purchasd the new 4th edition only to be disappointed. Page for page, the 4th edition presents the same information found in the 3rd edition, except for the addition of a few new photos. Author Barbara Mauzy missed the opportunity to create a 'must-have' supplemental with new information identifying unknown patterns, including dates of production for known patterns, and updating values, for example. Save yourself the expense, and buy a good-used 3rd edition.
- Very nice book on Pyrex ware. It is a nice guidebook to have for collectors.

5 comments about Tiki Mugs: Cult Artifacts of Polynesian Pop.
- I bought this book for my husbands' birthday. We are really into surf culture and I thought this would be a perfect addition to the collection. This is a perfect coffee table book; it has lots of great, varied pictures, and it gives you a bit of written information on different types and times of tiki! My husband loves it, and so do I.
- Whether you are a poly-pop devotee or simply a collector of the super-cool tiki mug, this book is an absolute must-have for you. Great words, great artwork and photography, great lay-out and presentation, great information and reference. Clearly produced by people with a genuine love and knowledge of their work. Well done Jay Strongman and Holden Westland. Buy it now while you can. Now...bring on volume two, boys. O.K?
- A must have for the person that loves tiki mugs. Facts for types of mugs, makers of mugs. It has interviews with the designers, the companys that make them. I love all the photos of mugs, tiki bars, menus, all things tiki. The only bad thing about this book is wanting to find all the mugs you have never seen before. It really has a lot of info on mugs and tiki collecting.
- The main focus of this book is the artwork of the current wave of tiki mug artists that have
sprouted in response to the resurgence of tiki culture. It is a must have read and full of
pictures to gawk at while jotting down your collector want list.
- Tiki mugs are a 1950s classic, a product of the pseudo-South Seas subculture which was part of the American scene. This book looks at some great examples of the mugs which would be available at Tiki bars which sprung up in cities and towns across the U.S. While not a catalog of Tiki mugs, this book contains photos of some of the best examples of mugs, which were loosely-based on idols from polynesia and developed into the sublime and the silly. The book discusses Tiki culture and some of the artists who are now designing mugs to satisfy a small but devoted audience.

5 comments about Silverplated Flatware.
- If you are a collector or dealer in silver plated flatware this book is a must for you. The book covers all the major manufacturers
and has very good diagrams of the various patterns
- This book is an excellent resource for collector or craftsman in quickly locating and identifying many American silverplate flatware patterns. The material is organized well and provides valuable indexes for identifying makers and companies. I find it useful for naming and dating the patterns I use in my crafts. I will be using this book for a long time. Great job!
This is a great book for identifying silver plated patterns. Easy to use. I have many patterns and I wanted to know the names of them before I pass them on to my kids. Helps in replacing pieces. Thanks
- This is a wonderful reference book for anyone who sells or collects nice silverpalted flatware. The
drawings of the patterns are very helpful and accurate -- it is well organized and easy to use! I particularly like the rating system that the author uses to place value on the patterns -- I highly recommend it!
- Tere's book is an excellant resource for silverplate collectors. The patterns are clealy identified; listed by the original silversmith (not the company that owns the pattern now) and other valuable information is given, as well. A bargain at the listed price!

4 comments about Warman's Fiesta: Identification and Price Guide.
- It was a very nice book with clear illustrations. However I did not find the info in it I was looking for. I was trying to identify weather or not my dishes were Fiestaware and it was of no help to me.
- Ordered this book to verify some of my pieces in order to sell them and it included great detail on the signatures on the underside of the pieces. It also covers specific glazes and production dates and was exactly what I needed. It a paperback, almost catalog style and has great images and information.
- THIS IS A GREAT BOOK FOR IDENTIFYING ITEMS THEMSELVES. THE COLORS ARE NOT THE BEST IN THAT IF YOU ARE TRYING TO IDENTIFY MEDIUM GREEN, IT SHOWS UP DIFFERENT ON DIFFERENT PAGES. SAME FOR OTHER COLORS. BUT IT HAS BEEN GREAT HELP IN IDENTIFYING ITEMS THAT I HAVE. I RECOMMEND HAVING THIS BOOK ALONG WITH MAYBE ONE OTHER ONE TO HAVE A COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF FIESTA WARE.
- THIS BOOK IS A MUST HAVE FOR ALL COLLECTORS OF FIESTA. THE PICTURES ARE ABSOLUTELY THE BEST AND CLEAREST I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS. I HAVE READ ALMOST EVERY BOOK OUT THERE AND THIS ONE IS THE MOST PRECISE. SEE ONE OF THE LARGEST COLLECTIONS IN THE US. EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF BEING ABLE TO IDENTIFY AND PRICE ANY FIESTA WARE YOU COULD EVER FIND. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS BOOK

5 comments about Florence's Big Book of Salt & Pepper Shakers: Identification & Value Guide.
- I almost didn't buy this book since the reviews were fairly low, but thumbed through it twice upon receiving it...I think it one of the best books in my collection. It covers most materials used in making S&Ps, identifies a lot of the makers, (Shawnee, Occupied Japan, Hazel Atlas, etc.), the photography is good, & I'm very pleased with the information it has given me. I know it will become a well thumbed book for searching.
- Book was a big hit with a growing collector - some shaker's categories could be expanded upon with more detail and photos - but overall a success...
- This was the first book I bought on Salt and Pepper Shakers. I didn't find it helpful at all. Unless you just want a collection of S&P books, don't waste your money.
- The book has tons of pictures. Some of the sets shown are not "true" sets. It is a great book to get a general idea of all the many themes of salt and pepper collecting. High end and low end are all well represented. It was fun to see sets I never knew existed that I would like to have. It gave me more stuff to look for in auctions. It's always fun to add to collections!
- The monetary valuations of Salt & Pepper Shakers in this book are virtually useless to either a collector or seller. I have never seen a book so totally unresearched on both pricing and product description. The majority of the photos of the S&P's do not describe the material utilized in their construction, so one is left wondering if they are looking at plastic, metal or other material.
No person interested in Salt & Pepper collecting should buy this as their first book. If you do, you'll be in for a big surprise when you try to buy an S&P that has been valued in this book for $12, but is belling for $48. For the more seasoned collector, it does have some decent pictures, but is more or less a rehash of better produced S&P Collecting books. If you've been collecting S&P's for over 6 months, you'll realize that this is a piece of utter tripe; execpt for the photos of the S&P's.

5 comments about Collectible Cups and Saucers: Identification and Values (Book 3, Collectible Cups and Saucers).
- Part of a series...Books I - IV. Great Table of Contents. Easy to navigate. Brief descriptions of key production houses and then WONDERFUL series of photos depicting examples of the makers' cups. Text is best for beginners...veteran collectors won't find new info since authors dabble in lots of topics. However, the photos are spectacular. Great for a nice tea break read! Authors include ID marks, although not comprehensive, it gives a good start. Use google to find ALL marks. Forget the price guide since the market is soft right now. My copy is tattered from use!!! Buy this book.
- Amazon has not separated the reviews of the 4 books in this series. The two books are similar with different examples or colors of the same style. For the most part the same makers are listed. Each page contains 3 photos with some having a close up of details. If you love one and want more, buy the other. Book III has small segments on Japanese and glass. Both are very nice additions. It also shows several complete sets. As of this writing, Book III is much cheaper and a better bargain. If you are buying the book for the pricing guide, the prices are outdated. I noticed that only one person wrote a review since the date of publication for Book VI but did not indicate whether their review was for an earlier edition. My comments relate to Book VI. I was very impressed with the 3 photos per page of cup and saucer sets. The variety of colors, patterns, styles, etc provide a far more interesting visual treat than I had imagined. I can see why so many people have become hooked as collectors. All of Europe is covered, with another section devoted to English sets. American sets are in a different section. The prices shown for the nicer European cup and saucer combos are $200-$750. These are show pieces- not everyday tea cups. There are sections on miniatures and Chinese sets. Collectors will appreciate the dates, sizes, and maker's marks. I initially thought that Debby DuBay's Limoges books were probably the most inspiring. Until I get to see one, I'm betting either book is the best cross section. I have "Decorative Plates" by the same authors and I notice larger designs due to the larger canvas. I really like that book. I was expecting that cups and saucers would be a big step down. I was wrong. The pleasing shape of the set just opened a new window of perspective for me and I think the two books are good compliments without repeating the contents.
- This book was not only informative but also had some beautiful teacups. I have browsed through it a few times just to look at the beautiful teacups. It is also helpful to learn how to value teacups.
- Company never contacted me that I was not going to receive the book. Amazon does not state how to contact them quite disappointing. Did get my money back.
- Being a beginner at collecting porcelain cups and saucers, I was pleased to find this book. When I got it, I was even happier. I have literally sat for hours studying the wonderful color pictures and reading their information about the history and origins of various categories of cups and saucers. If you have any interest at all in this subject, get this book.
