1. Adamant Media Corporation is to be commended for reprinting this classic work from 1841. Millingen's two volume work is a wonderful survey of the history of dueling thoughout Europe.
   
   Volume I covers the practice of dueling from the Romans through the early German development of the Trial by Battle. Millingen then examines dueling in France to the Nineteenth Century, dueling in Italy, Spain, Germany and Scandinavia, Belgium and Holland, the United States and finally the Far East.
   
   Volume II covers the duels of Great Britian and Ireland. Millingen concentrates on the period from the Sixteenth Century to the Nineteenth Century. His work is particularly useful for the detailed analysis of the duels from the period of James I to 1840. He describes the duels in detail, often quoting the challenges to the duel and the correspondence between the parties. There is nowhere I know to find such detail in such a compact form.
   
   Eli Bron is to be congratulated for reprinting these volumes as well as others from the early Nineteenth century. These books are very valuable for anyone interested in the History of Dueling.
