4 comments about How to Buy Jewelry Wholesale.

  1. For a novice diamond buyer, this book paved the way to my understanding of WHAT to buy, and then HOW to buy it. Very helpful, indeed. Interestingly, I bought this book for the...list price about 18 months ago. It is out of print now, and used copies are six times that amount! Before you buy jewelry, spend the money to learn what you need to know from Mr. Adler. You'll save the cost of the book many, many times over.

  2. Although the title of this book encompasses "jewelry," in the introduction, the author states that he has limited the scope of the book to diamonds and jewelry that contains diamonds, gold, platinum or silver. He omits colored stones because "they do not enjoy the stability and liquidity of a structured market." Unfortunately, my interest is colored stones, and had I known that this book was limited to diamonds I would never have bought it. Having said that, if your interest is diamonds and/or gold, then the book can be recommended.

  3. very basic information, full of obvious suggestions.buy only if intereted in an elementary explanation of the jewelry industry

  4. This book is a must, you will never buy jewelry in a retail store again, I learned how to value and get the best price for jewelry. What an insight!

2 comments about Star Spangled Jewelry.

  1. Star Spangled is only a collection, and not extensive. Did not
fullfill my expectiations as an answer to questions about this
    piece of costume jewelry history.

  2. A thirty year veteran at collecting patriotic jewelry, Sandra J. Whitson teams up with Nancy N. Schiffer (who has collected jewelry and written reference books for more than three decades) to compile and present "Star Spangled Jewelry", a 160-page compendium of jewelry with an American patriotic theme or motif. Superbly illustrated with full color photography, each one of the more than 625 impressive presented examples is provided with a succinctly descriptive text that also includes the date of the piece being showcased. Comprehensive, authoritative, nicely organized and absolutely beautiful, "Star Spangled Jewelry" is the definitive reference on its specialized subject and highly recommended for inclusion into personal, professional, academic, and community library Antiques & Collectibles reference collections.

5 comments about Breitling: The History of a Great Brand of Watches 1884 to the Present (Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. I should have read the reviews here first.
When you pay nealry forty bucks you get a 12 year old book with black and pictures. The majority are just scans of Breitling watch adverts.
Its a complete waste of money.
    THE CONTENT:
Thats all I can say about that nothing. No History, no details on movements or watch types. This has to be the mother of all lemons.

  2. maybe I should change the title of the review, It was not written, its mostly just a book of old black and white pictures. I was very disappointed. For the price, I would not suggest it.

  3. I like watches and must admit I was a lttle disapointed. It has some nice pictures, but not much information.
It has too many pictures from the advertisers and sadly is very out of date now, but I will keep it. I see some reviews go gack as far as 1999,I guess I should have seen how old this book was before I bought it. Its very outdated.

  4. I was a little surprised by the book, it's now 12 years old and outdated, the pictures are all black and white, and it does not have much writing, I read it from cover to cover in about 1.5 hours. The pictures are good quality, although many are from Breitling advertisements.
It would be nice to see it updated, in color and have some history behind it. It does not explain anything about the Breitling Emergency watch, it just shows a picture! I was a little disappointed.

  5. Some nice pictures in here. Not much writing, I seemed to flip throught it in about an hour.
Pictures are of very good quality, but all black & white, I would recommend if you are a collector, I think its a little out dated now.
