1 comments about Schmuck Jewellery 1840-1940: Highlights Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim.

  1. Lovers of fine, unique jewelry will be delighted and amazed to find the stunning works of art displayed in this landmark volume by Fritz Falk. Pieces shown range from the middle of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th. These designs are elegant, extravagant one-of-a-kind pieces with styles representing Art Nouveau and Art Deco.

Among the designers included are Rene Lalique, GeorgesFouquet, Theodor Wende, Ernesto Rinzi - to name only a few of the masters who created memorable pieces.

Master goldsmith Fritz Falk holds a doctorate in art history and served as director of the Schmuck Museum from 1971 - 2003. It is he who shaped the collection as it is seen today, eliciting rave notices from the international community. The Schmuck, established in 1961, is the largest museum in the world dedicated to jewelry design and history.

With fascinating text in both English and German, the volume contains 190 color illustrations, each unforgettable, visually arresting. Dr. Falk contributes insightful introductions to each of the periods represented - The Revival Period, Art Nouveau and The Art Deco 20s/30s.

While many cannot board a plane to visit the Schmuck Museum in Pforzheim, Germany, all can enjoy this magnificent volume. It's a treasure in itself.

    - Gail Cooke

1 comments about Ancient Gold Jewelry at the Dallas Museum of Art.

  1. This book is for the serious jewelry student but even the casual reader could be caught by the amazingly beautiful jewelry in it. The collection consists of Etruscan, Greek and Roman gold jewelry reaching back to the 7th century B.C. and ending around the 3rd century A.D. The text is informative and succinct. The photos are superb. In particular, the technical virtuosity and design elegance of the ancient Etruscans are breathtaking.

  1. This does seem like an overpriced advertisement-only magazine. Not a lot of information for those who are already collectors, and those new to the field will get little more than some nice pictures. But the pictures are very nice, so I'll give it 2 stars.

  2. If you are a serious collector then put your money towards another watch. This book shows no/little pricing. In many cases it is a paid advertisement of the watch companies - products and technical descriptions are not shown/listed. You can get more info from a companies website/product catalog. Very disappointing book. It is a slick high glossy collection of photos - you get neither a good coffee table book nor a technical reference. I gave it to the dog to play with - at least someone is enjoying it.

  1. I'm here looking for a book to replace this one that I spent too much money on for what looks like a family picture album. Basically the author is showing off her own collection on her friends and family with no real information on what to look for when collecting jewelry. Save your money and find a better book! It's terrible!

  2. Brightly illustrated with photos and text. A few photos of models wearing jewelry.

  3. I was dismayed to see it was mostly pictures of people, not jewelry. Barely any useful information. Its a total waste of money.

  4. This book has little to do with investing in jewelry. Too many pictures of uninteresting people and clothes. Too few pieces of interesting jewelry and no new information about the jewelry. A vanity publication. Better read Harrice Miller-first and second books.

3 comments about Rainbow of Rhinestone Jewelry: With Price Guide and Repairing Suggestions (A Schiffer Book for Collectors).

  1. Yes, the pictures are dark in this book, but they are clear, not muddy. I have found it tremendously helpful in beginning to collect and care for this type of jewelry.

  2. I bought this book based on the one review, and I have to completely disagree. The pictures in this one are dark and muddy, it's very hard to see details. And that's the point, isn't it? The cleaning and repairing chapter is moderately helpful if you have no clue. The chapters are arranged by COLORS. Not by designers, or eras, or anything else that might make sense. The author will mention that something is in the style of Schreiner, but never go into any detail about what that style might entail. A waste of money.

  3. This is a beautiful book with fabulous pictures. It has a wealth of good jewelry items illustrated that actually apply to things a person who is not wealthy might have. They have a very interesting and easy to understand section on how to clean Rhinestone jewelry, how to make some repairs, and how to store and display it. All in all this is a very complete, useful, interesting and beautiful book about Rhinestone jewelry.
