1 comments about Practical Jewellery Repair.

  1. I'll update this once I receive "Practical Jewlery Repair", but wanted to point out that professional jewlery websites have this item selling for well over $40, so the savings is actually higher than noted on this web page - it's currently list price $35. It covers the techniques of soldering, casting, wire-drawing, polishing, sawing and filing, among others. Note that it's not designed for the string-and-beads jewlery maker, unless s/he is also interested in metal/gem jewlery making or is looking for techniques that can be carried over.

1 comments about Bernd Munsteiner: Reflexionen in Stein / Reflections in Stone.

  1. This is a book for all those who facet stones and love gemstones in jewellery. This man Bernd is the personification of excellence....the Michaelangelo of the gem crystal. He took what other stone faceters call inclusions and turned them from a negative feature that detracts from the stones value to a positive feature that enhances and gives personality, value and historical context to the gemstone. In the age of synthetic gemstones Bernd Munsteiner has made inclusions the gem buyers friend and moved gems from jewellery to art gallery. A fantastic book for gemmologists, jewellers, faceters and all rock and crystal hounds. The book is well written with amazingly clear and accurate photos and good history of both Bernd and his talented artistic family.Buy this book.

3 comments about Popular Jewelry, 1840-1940.

  1. As a vintage jewelry dealer, this is one of my favorite books, both for reference as well as for enjoyment. Ms. Ettinger has selected and verified the dating of jewelry for the most popular collectible jewelry types in the vintage and antique categories. As a pricing guide, her instincts are excellent in this ever-changing market. The narrations add to the pictorial information to make this one of the most important books in my collection. She reveals a good sampling of each era of jewelry styles, giving us a realistic glimpse of period jewelry popular in each decade covered. This book is well worth buying.

  2. Roseann Ettinger's "Popular Jewelry 1840-1940" is definitely one of the must-have books that all vintage jewelry collectors and jewelry lovers should have in their libraries. The book covers jewelry trends such as Victorian, Art Nouveau, Edwardian, Transitional and Art Deco. This is not a book about the big name jewelry designers and makers of the rich and famous, but rather about the jewelry marketed to the general public. Having said that; however, as you leaf through this book, you'll find that the jewelry advertised in the Sears catalog or given away for subscribing to Mc Calls magazine were not less beautiful or less dazzling than the "real" thing. "Popular Jewelry" is easy to read. But what I like the most is the profusion of illustrations and photographs (both in color and black and white) of rings, pendants, brooches, chains, bracelets, necklaces, buckles, lavalieres, pins--and in addition to some magazine and catalog advertising of each period, that makes this book a feast for the eyes.

  3. This book is important to dating old jewelry because it is divided into "periods" of popular jewelry with lots of photographs to help you identify the age of a piece. It's like a little timeline. Chances are you have seen the jewelry in this book and you can learn about the era and the wearer...

1 comments about Jugendstil Guertelschlieýen / Art Nouveau Buckles: Sammlung Kreuzer / The Kreuzer Collection.

  1. This book is a must for all Art Nouveau jewelery lovers. There is no collection of this kind in the world. The illustrations are exquisit and a joy to look at every time I open this book. My admiration for people like Dr. Karl Kreuzer is off the scale.
