2 comments about Art Nouveau Jewelry (Christie's Collectibles).

  1. David Lancaster & Christie's have done a good job together! Even though this book is in a fairly small format, the pictures are clear, the information is concise, and it is certainly a good book for the person with a beginning interest in Art Nouveau Jewelry.

The chapters are well defined, and the glossary is quite descriptive. A great help to someone who does not have a clue of what the terms mean. The index too, is quite complete for such a small work.

Not the best book ever written on Art Nouveau Jewelry, but certainly a good one for the enthusiast's bookshelf!

1 comments about Gems and Jewelry: All Color Guide.

  1. There are an awful lot of fantasy writers who would benefit in reading, if not this book, then one very like it. But that's not a recommendation.

I had the first edition, lost it, discovered the 2nd edition, was happy. Even if you're not a gem-shopper (I'm not), the book's worth it for the zillions of full-color photographs alone: you can *see* what all these gemstones look like.

Arem discusses carats vs. karats, gem-cutting, mining, trivia and lore on various gemstones...a lot. There are other books on the same subject, of course, but this one's a decent survey.

1 comments about Faberge: Imperial Jeweler.

  1. Born in 1846 in St. Petersburg, Russia, perhaps little at his birth, save for his father's profession as a jeweler, presaged the intricately exquisite art objects that Carl Faberge would someday create.

In fact, the earliest products of his house have been described as "somewhat clumsy gold bracelets." Today his name is synonymous with the incomparably beautiful.

Famous for his jewel adorned Imperial Easter eggs, Faberge the artisan produced so much more - jewelry, picture frames, presentation boxes, cigarette cases. More than 300 stunning full-color pages bring these treasures to us.

The text is impeccably researched and written.

1 comments about ROCK CRYSTAL TREASURES: FROM ANTIQUITY TO TODAY..

  1. I have long held a great fascination for the use of Rock crystal in decorative objects, but never found a book that focused so extensively on this often-overlooked material. "Rock Crystal Treasures from Antiquity to Today" is therefore a great find. While there are numerous titles available that explore crystals from the mystical or scientific standpoint, "Rock Crystal Treasures" provides a wonderful overview of beautiful objects made from rock crystal. Jewelry, vases, religious objects, clocks, chandeliers and other decorative items are shown.

Lavishly illustrated with many large clear photos accompanied by insightful text, the book provides a wonderful resource for designers, jewelers or anyone with an interest in rock crystal quartz objects. It is inspirational to see so many items crafted from this translucent stone, worked and sculpted into pieces of such enduring beauty. I found the authors text to provide a great deal of useful details regarding both the historic and modern production of rock crystal. A beautiful book and a great addition to my design reference library.
