1 comments about Pueblo Deco.
- From the back cover:
Pueblo Deco is a distinctively American architecture and design style developed in the Southwest during the first 30 years of the 20th Century. Its imagery is a blend of the legends of the Wild West, the motifs of Native American and Hispanic cultures, and the aesthetics of Art Deco, Streamline, and Moderne design. Architects, interior designers, and period craftspeople fancifully applied Pueblo Deco details to a wide range of buildings in cities and towns throughout the Southwest and as far away as New York City. In this delightful survey of the style, acclaimed architectural writer/photographer Carla Breeze recorded some of Pueblo Deco's finest examples, including theaters, railroad stations, hotels, courthouses and civic buildings, retail stors and trading posts, residential buildings, and many others.
Carla Breeze is a New York City-based architectural writer and photographer. Born in New Mexico, she has been fascinated by the Pueblo Deco style since childhood, when she first laid eyes on Albuquerque's fabulous KiMo movie theater.
---------------
Anyone who loves the designs of Southwest Native American or of the Art Deco period will drool over the contents of this quite interesting book. Breeze uses her photographic expertise to zoom in on the hand-made details of numerous buildings. Dozens of her color photographs are augmented by knowledgeable writing. Highly recommended for students of the period.

3 comments about French Quarter Manual: An Architectural Guide to New Orleans' Vieux Carre.
- This book is full of fantastic old black and white images and thoroughly interesting text. The French Quarter is one of America's treasures and anyone with any interest at all in this famous old district should have this book in their collection. Thank God, the Quarter is on high ground and the buildings so well built, God willing, it will survive another milinium, much like the city it inhabits.
- As a part-time resident of the Vieux Carre, and one who very reluctantly leaves to return to New York, I keep this book in my New York home to look through when I long for New Orleans. This book, with its elegant balck and white historic photos and its vivid descriptive text, captures the best of the Vieux Carre. In fact, I have had great fun trying to match the historic photos to the contemporary Vieux Carre sites on my visits to the Quarter.
I love this book, it's a wonderful gift to anyone who loves that amazing and magical place known as the Vieux Carre.
- Tender in prose, painstaking in research, passionate in creation. A worthy addition to any architectural library.

4 comments about The Architecture of Bart Prince: A Pragmatics of Place.
- Since I personlly know both author/wife and architect I can look back over 12 or 13 years and say, uniquivocally, that Dr Mead and his wife/photographer have not only escaped the dreaded, and all too common categorization and sycophantic drooling that characterises most architectural books, articals, essays, reviews ... just pick a category and some adjectives for yourself. THIS IS GOOD, SOUND WORK -- as an architect who benefited from both their perspectives, and as a frequent editor -- THIS IS GOOD, SOUND WORK. Top drawer.
- If your a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, Greene and Greene or Kendrick Kellogg, then you will find this book quiet fascinating.
Prince seems to take his work a step further than most architects offering a touch of fantasy to his architecture. The book has lots of glossy photos, floor plans and information on Prince's life and work.
- If Frank Lloyd Wright is King, than indeed Bart Prince is Prince. The photographs in the book are brilliant and Christopher Mead's Commentary is awesome and highly informative as well. Showing a lot into Bart Prince the man himself. I hope one day to own a Bart Prince Home.
- A book as interesting as the funky forms it analizes. I have had the honour of both reading this book and attending Professor Mead's architecture retrospective class series. The book is filled with an incledibly informed, and informative text which is supported with excellent photos and diagrams. I highly reccomend this book for students of architecture, or just for an interesting read, and if you find yourself in the area of the University Of New Mexico, I highly suggest you do yourself the favour of sitting in on one of Professor Mead's lectures

1 comments about Mexican Architects: Space, Light & Color (Mexican Architects).
- This book is printed in Hong Kong. The resolution of the pictures here is so-so. There are 25 Mexican architects featured here and towards the end of the book, there is a directory of how to contact them. There are no layouts featured but simply pictures, an indication that this book is never meant for the cerebral readers or for architecture's enthusiasts. This book is a definite candy popper book, a book that would be forgotten in a matter of time. Every and each architects wrote a simple piece of their philosophy or belief. To put this into another perspective, this book is simply a medley of all architects mentioned combined. The writers didn't even elaborate enough about the pertinence of space, light, and color in mexican architecture. Perhaps, they are true believers in the fact that a picture tells a million stories. Can be better. Yawn ~

1 comments about Vienna: Architecture And Design (And Guides).
- Vienna is such a magnificent city for architecture and design and this book does a great job in capturing the dynamism of architects and designers working in Vienna today. I want to go to Vienna now and see some of these new buildings after seeing the pics in this book. (So if you throw the trip in I want to make, you might say this book is rather expensive!)

1 comments about Connecticut Valley Vernacular: The Vanishing Landscape and Architecture of the New England Tobacco Fields.
- While the text is pretty good and the historic pictures are fine, there should have been more contemporary photos to show the Connecticut River Valley Today and how people are using the barns today.
