1. The pictures, the stories, it is all one great inspiring read, and so much more awesome than i had expected.

This is a great book to have, it begins to illustrate ancient Iran historical castles from Ctesiphon all the way to Safavid Dynasty of Iran and how Iranian people has been contributing to arts, agriculture and watering system of Iran which comes to point of paradise. And paradise is a Persian word.
   
   The book also can be used for travel agency because it has countless colorful pictures about Iran.
   
   Enjoy reading this book.



3. This is a beautiful book that perfectly balances information with stunning photographs.



4. I loved this book. And it's not because I've been to some of the places that are studied in the book. The pictures take you to the gardens that were at the heart of the great residences of kings and leaders...In a time when few get the chance to see the beauty of Iran and the culture that arose from it, this book shows a world of culture, history and color. Look, read and with your mind's eye see an old world that gave much to this new one.

1. This is an exceptionally well written book on the various eras in the architectural development of what I consider to be the most architecturally diverse state in the union. I have lived in North Carolina all of my life and I have seen at least 3/4 of the structures mentioned in the book. Bishir does a great job of explaining the forces that lead to the development of these great monuments to society. The photography is quite good, but for some strange reason all of the color photos are in the back of the book out of the context of the writing. I don't like having to flip to the back to see a "pretty" picture (there are plenty less "pretty" B & W photos within the text). This is a huge book that you will have to have a custom bookshelf built for. If you wish to put it on your coffee table please reinforce it first. I've lost three tables due to is mass. All kidding aside, this is a definate must read.

1. This is a very good book on a fascinating family and a grand estate. Holkham is without doubt one of the grandest of the non royal estates, it really is quite a stack of stones. The history makes the house all the more interesting. The images in this book are very good and the text is very well researched. A must have!



2. An exceptionally well written account of the building, builders, and custodians of a magnificent piece of history. Would that this sense of stewardship were more widespread.

1. The Nasher rocks..I love this place, from Piano's iconic building to Walker and partners perfect landscaping..oh and the art is ok too..LOL..as for this book it is very good..it is highly informative, easy to read, and the images pop off the page. I recommend it to anyone interested in landscape architecture on a grand scale, where money was no object. And if your in Dallas, if you do nothing else..visit the Nasher, it is in a word: Fabulous

1. I have alway's thought the San Francisco City Hall was spectacular, as impressive inside as out. It is great to have a book on the architect of that building and many more, his buildings in the Federal Triangle are wonderful, classic, yet functional. This book has fantastic images and the text is fascinating. I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in spectacular architecture in the classical style.
