1 comments about Visions of Polo.

  1. Mrs. Furth is a wellknown photographer of horses. She visited worldwide the most important tournaments to publish this very nice fotobook, to let us have a view infront of and behind the polo grounds. Very good eye for the right moment.

She presents some professional umpires and let speak important people as Howard Hipwood (GB) und Urs Schwarzenbach (CH) about the best player at the moment on earth Adolfito Cambiaso.
Reporting about the newcomer familydynasties in Polo not always Heguy`s and Pieres.

I think for every poloentusiast a must have.

4 comments about Field Guide to Horses.

  1. Though a great effort, the book should not be used for breed identification. I was very disappointed in the attempts to represent over half of the breeds that the artist was trying to convey. Either the artist was not a horse person, or she could not convey the breeds' charactaristics through this medium. The pictures in themselves were, lovely, full of motion and life, but if one were to try to identify horses through this field guide, they might run into great difficulty.

  2. Bird-watchers have field guides. Hikers have field guides. Even weed-lovers even have field guides. Now horse-watchers have a field guide.

"Field Guide to Horses" by Kindrie Grove (Lone Pine Publishing, ...paperback, 176 pages) is a colorful and accessible reference guide to identifying horses. If you like to look at horses, but don't know a fetlock from a fore cannon, this is a remarkable little book. Thanks to easy-reading summaries and sharp artwork, you'll be able to find and identify horses by markings, coloring, gaits and behavior, and learn about equine history, vernacular and evolution all at the same time. This is a great book for people who drive across the country and wonder what all those pretty horses really are.

If you want to go a little deeper, pick up Gail Bunney's "Horse Stories: Riding with the Wind" (Lone Pine Publishing, ...paperback, 224 pages). Bunney, a Canadian horse-trainer who even got married on horseback, collects her own horse tales, trying to convey some passion for the animals, as well as her own savvy and horse wisdom. "These stories don't tell how to buy a horse, how to train a horse, how to handle different temperaments or even how to break a horse to ride," the book says. "They are stories about one woman's enduring love for horses."

  3. I think that a true horse lover would definitely enjoy this book. This book isn't a chapter book like regular books, but it's still good. The auther divided the book into sections. For example, the first section is about the different breeds of ponies. The author has a picture of the horse, ponie,or other equines and underneath the picture it has information about the horse, ponie, etc.Well i've probally bored you enough with this review, and i probally won't win.So that's about it for my review.Oh and i recomend this book to all horse lovers everywhere.

4 comments about Whispering Back.

  1. I read this book straight through in one sitting. It's a wonderful, uplifting book of horse tales but more than that, it's the story of two very inspirational people. And yes - I both laughed out loud and cried more than once!

  2. Whispering Back is a must-have book, not just for horse lovers but for everyone. It is a moving, inspiring story that can change the way you think about horses - and life! It made me laugh, cry and smile. A compelling tale full of heros and heroines. Hurry and buy it! Hurry and write another, Nicole and Adam!

  3. a truly inspirational story of two people who believed they could make a difference for the better, and went out and did it - forgoing conventional careers, and driven by a humane concern for horses' welfare.
Monty Roberts says there's no such thing as problem horses, only horses that have problems with humans - the two authors of Whispering Back have devoted their lives to fixing both the problem humans, and their effects on the horses. This is the story of how they came to be doing that, and some of their mistakes and experiences - both good and bad - along the way. A superb read, accessible yet informative.

  4. This book is one of those you cant put down. Set in England, it tells a moving, yet superbly uplifting story of two people who become "Horse Whisperers" proving that it is a skill that can be learned! It also tells the fabulous tales of the equines they met and helped and their journey with their own horses. I cannot recommend this book enough.....quite simply a life changer for me. Great reading for anyone, not just the horse fan.

3 comments about Cutting (Western Horseman Books).

  1. I think this stey-by-step guide was very helpful and informative. The illustrations were great and helped me to understand the point of what was being said.

    Well put together :-)

  2. This is a great book; well written and lots of photographs so you can see what he's talking about. So many of the horse training books are so phony - all in "horse talk" and you don't really understand what they mean. Not this book - it's easy to understand even for a beginner or a spectator.

  3. Written by a two-time winner of the National Cutting Horse Association's Futurity and member of the NCHA Hall of Fame, Leon Harrell's folksy and illuminating cutting horse text is an excellent introduction to this sport. Harrell addresses the basic concerns of the novice cutter (and those who are wondering whether this is the sport for them at all) in understandable and clear terms. He offers tips on everything from selection of tack to finding the right horse, provides detailed descriptions of his training methods, and details the rules of cutting competition. Harrell's anecdotes provide effective illustrations of his training techniques and also let the novice know what to expect in competition. He is generous with advice to the newcomer and also with praise to those who have helped him become the NCHA Hall of Famer he now is.

One of the most attractive features of this well-organized, beautifully-illustrated, clearly-written text is simply the feel of the book. Harrell writes about his horses like a man who loves them. His training methods are geared toward getting the most out of a horse, and making the horse enjoy it. He describes cutting as an exciting yet friendly sport, and when he advises the rookie cutter to ask for help from the best riders at a competition, the reader gets the feeling that anyone who asked Harrell for help would get all they needed. He describes his great horses (Smart Date, Nu Bar, Fizzabar, and the rest) with real respect and affection, and when he casually remarks, "I thought the world of [Fizzabar] and the mare thought quite a bit of me" the reader understands why.

Leon Harrell has made a fine career of training horses. He is especially good with the spooky, sensitive ones. After reading this book it is easy to understand why. Leon Harrell is an admirable trainer. He's clearly not too shabby as a man, either. If I am ever in Texas with a young cutting horse, I know who I'll call for advice.
