1 comments about The BHS Manual of Equitation: The Training of Horse and Rider.
- This is the riding manual that corresponds to the British Horse Society (BHS) horsemastership (Stage) exams. It covers material from learning to mount and lead a horse up to teaching the piaffe and cross-country riding. Surprisingly compact at 144 pages, this book would make an excellent text book for a college horsemanship class as its material covers multiple levels of riders.
The illustrations are clear, chapters are "to the point," and the text anticipates rider questions and problems. Although it will not provide a BHS candidate with sample riding tests it is still worthwhile. Ideally this book would be purchased by a rider in one or more English riding lessons per week as it is easy to reference and would work well with a lesson program.

1 comments about Homeopathy for Horses (Threshold Picture Guide).
- This book will leave all other Homeopathy books written about the Equine in the dust,
The care and detail in the writing translates into the most thorough Homeopathy book for
horses that you will find anywhere. Excellent detail throughout, well explained, and a top-notch
index which makes it easy to find a symptom in an emergency. Contains emergency section,
as well as pre and post-op remedies. So well done that a beginner can understand it but so detailed
that a Professional will find the rare and obscure disease or illness included. Kudos to Dr. Couzens
for the finest animal publication of its kind. If you are experienced in homeopathy this may also help you
with your Dog or Cat in such things as pre/post op, eye problems, skin problems, etc.
A Best Buy for the Money!

2 comments about Winning With Arabian Horses (Prentice Hall Press equestrian books).
- Winning With Arabian Horses provides useful information for beginners in the show ring or aspiring Arabian judges. Don Burt goes over Halter, English, Hunter and Western Pleasure and covers the basics. Includes drawings and photos of what Arabians should look like. One of my favorite books!
- This is a great book if you are looking to know what the judge is looking for in the show ring. It gives a few training tips and does compleatly go over conformation faults as well as showing faults such as how to "set up" the horse to show it's conformation to the best. This book covers all classes from Halter to Costume Class. I highly recommend this book especially for the beginner, as well as the experenced show person because comming from the judges point of view it covers alot of tricks that the experenced person thinks they are getting away with to hide conformation faults. I have show Quarter Horses my whole life, showing Arabians is a whole new ball game this book allowed me to step up to bat with confadence. Having the helps comming from a judges point of view really helps.

1 comments about The Total Rider: Health & Fitness for the Equestrian.
- This is a very complete book showing the rider how to create a complete exercise program designed to build strength, flexibility, and endurance. The exercise diagrams are clear and show which specific muscles are being targeted and how the exercise relates to riding. The programs allow you to advance to more diffiicult exercises as you improve. There is also chapters on healthy eating and stress reduction.

5 comments about More Cross-Training: Build a Better Performance Horse with Dressage.
- I purchased Cross-Train and More Crossing Training by Jane Savoie about two years ago based on all the 5 star reviews these books received.
Unfortunately, these books were a disappointment to me. I struggled to finish Cross-Train and I never could get into reading More Cross Training. The text, even though helpful to most people, just seemed to drag on for me. Perhaps this was caused by Ms. Savoie's writing style; perhaps it was just me. (I have found Feeling Dressage by Ruth Sabine Schaefer more to my liking.)
On a positive note, these books have many nice pictures and illustrations which many people should find helpful.
- Together with the first book a must have for every rider that wants to prolong and improve her horse's well-being. This is the first book I came across that really shows who to do a half-halt aid.
- This is the perfect companion to the first Cross-Training book. It's for the riders who want to better and further their dressage training. It picks up where the first book left off, and like book 1, it is clear, innovative, explanative and illustrates the basic principles of more advanced dressage. It leaves the reader/rider with a better understanding of riding mechanics and harmony with the horse. It gets a little bit more in depth and into more advanced, challenging dressage excercises. Suited for any horse and rider in any sport, which makes it so different than any other dressage book out there. A great buy.
- Both of Jane's cross training books are a great resource for trainers, riders, and instructors because of their content and their readability. The photos are numerous and first rate. They illustrate commonly made mistakes as well as the ideal and are well captioned. The text provides readers with easy to follow instructions on how to correct common mistakes, how to introduce new movements, and how to improve our horses overall. You can enjoy the book reading it from start to finish or just selecting sections that deal with a particular point of interest to you.
- i am a life-long rider in hunt seat, jumpers, and dressage, and i found this book to be well-written, straightforward, and illustrated with great photographs of horses and riders, showing both correct and incorrect movements and aids. anyone who wants a more disciplined, athletic, and well-balanced horse, as well as an improved attitude towards his or her riding, should read this book. it doesn't matter what your riding discipline is--dressage, hunt seat, or even western, trail, or endurance. the techniques that jane sets forth in her books will help every rider be more in tune with his or her mount, be more in control of the tremendous physical power of the horse, and therefore end up with a performance, whether in the show ring, or on the trail, that is a joy to ride.
